  • @MattyCson /wiki/The_War_of_the_Worlds_%28radio_drama%29#Public_reaction

  • @MattyCson type Orson Welles into google and check the wiki article "public reaction" (your dad was right)

  • @MattyCson They told the story on the radio in America and people mistaked it for a news report and it caused panic, LOLZ.

  • @MattyCson

The original 1938 broadcast of war of the worlds was presented to sound like news bulletins.

There was in fact public panic for days after the broadcast

  • @MattyCson listen to your dad!

  • Mum's ashes were scattered while this song was played a few weeks ago. It's a beautiful tribute song. I miss her so much.

     victory.....

    Fighting Machine: NO ULLAH

  • do you think the Moody's would be in such a hurry or so cute they would shorten words? Is that the commentary fans use? You who are cute shorten this song with your language and make it sound the same. Take the extra seconds to write the words or else you will do the same to the music. or shorten your life the sameway- in the techno fog in which you come and go. The belief in yourself that you could write this knowing fair well this is brilliant and the best you can do is shorten this.Wake up!

  • @TheHawkeyemark Would you mind translating that into English?

    Johnno 1961 - 2010

your smile, loyalty, and friendship will be always remembered my brother

  • i cry every time i hear this song...classic

  • I remember 1979 as if it was yesterday !!, that was my first year in College.

This song played all the time on radio.

The Moody blues and Justin Hayward are Great !!

  • My grandpa was always listening this song and he loved it. But he died at 20-01-10. And all i wanted to say is, Grandpa i love you, and i will always do. Even you're not here. Kisses your loved family in Den Helder, Holland. (L)

  • Brilliant song from one of the best albums ever made.

  • This track is tied in to someone Ilost a long time ago, but never fails to get to me , especially in the Autumn....leaves falling, birds getting out of dodge etc..Wish i could play it for her just one time and explain....maybe then it would go away??

  • maybe one day ur wish comes true ...........keep the faith!

  • Great song - but a scary movie!!

  • @ 1:45

In the book, the tripods had brown flesh :P But it was still an amazing picture.

    Good vid btw :3

  • @TheBastard97 this song is from the war of the worlds albub highlights and those are the machines from the musical one

  • @TheBastard97 I thought it was the martians with the brown flesh, and the tripods were mettalic?

  • no in nottingham in july this year

  • i went t see this and one word to describe it.....BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!

  • Its funny how the concept of invading tripods such as these feels so primitive after playing a game of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 lol.

  • I did so love this song. I'd discovered that it was possible, at 13 & 14 to fall in love with Cathy Lee Crosby and the Headmasters daughter on the same day. Christie Brinkley, Streets Blue Ribbon, P51-D Mustangs, ads for speedos, z1b 900 Kawas and Raquel Welch. And then a friend played me stairway to heaven, and I saw god. Don't you wish you could be 13 again? Just for the afternoon.

  • You are a kindred spirit. I bow to your dreams and share them with you.

  • I'm listening to this for the first time since 1981 when I had recorded this onto cassette from a radio broadcast of the entire album. Sometime over the next few years I lost that cassette and from time to time I've remembered how great the music was. Glad I found this post. It triggers a flood of memories!

  • for the rest of my life!!!!! greatest years of my life at that age!!!!

  • A great song sung by that Moody Blues singer, Justin Hayward.

The Jeff Wayne's album is brilliantly made.

    Thanks for the video....

    5/5

  • This makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

  • Always liked this song, even if it is bleak.

Autumn has always been my favorite time of year, the world is winding down, getting ready to sleep, but then I've always been rather on the melancholy side of things.

  • It's bleak but has hope...

  • y didunt u put eve of the war song on instend of that song :(

  • Alpha, assumption is the lowest level of knowledge.

  • Martians dont watch either Draghon..

  • Moody Blues ftw

  • lol, shirl, grow up, get a grip, nothing watches us, lol, why would you think that? way too many god/bible stories as a kid maybe?

  • (S?)He was talking about Martians.

  • I love this record and the film ,makes you think is there anything watching us ,we would never know probably not in our lifetime love the film to love Shirlsxx

  • I remember when this song was popular on the radio - AM, at that. A few years later, I found out what album it came from, and a few months after that it gained special poignancy in regards to my roommate and a story about his recently deceased mother. Now, 26 years later - after my wife, whose first love was a Moody Blues fan - has left me, I cry even harder every time I hear this song.

  • I am sorry to hear that. I know how you feel.

  • Thank you so much, Ollierockon! Could you also give us that famous intro with Richard Burton: "No one could have believed at the end of the 19th century that human affairs were being watched..."? Thank you, again.

  • My favourite song of it all, is thunder child. I remember first hearing the tracks as a kid, because my dad had it, its amazing music

  • This is such a great song. Sad, but still powerful after all these years.

On a side note, if anyone is interested, I have posted The Fighting Machine from the Highlights album on my channel. Check it out. It starts out different from the track on the original album.

  • I play by ear!!!! But If you look up Ultimate-Guitar you'll find it.

  • I played this on the guitar at a pub gig last year!!!

    Thanks for the upload dude!!!!

  • ty love it :))

  • really really nice..:)

  • I've often stated to friends that the best 2 CD set I own is Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.

  • Go see the show if you can, it is fantastic, wonderful, no words for it!:))

I have the album, CD and DVD, and finally saw it live in Amsterdam last Wednesday!!

    Geri

  • Saw it in Brighton as well. Words cannot describe the event... I was simply blown away with the emotion of the music and theatre.

If you ever get the chance you must see it!!

  • takes me back to better days.

  • love it ^^ ♥♥♥

  • In "Independence Day", the Americans defeated the aliens with fighter jets, computer viruses and a nuclear bomb. The English are way too cool for that. They can defeat aliens by singing progressive rock.

  • Not at all ;)

  • XD XD

    yep you know it lol

  • @DarthCipient LOL!!! Well, considering the success of the "British Invasion"....why not?:D

  • @DarthCipient lol OFC us brits are like " oh gosh theres alines killing people well time to go underground have a nice cuppa and sing a few songs and wait for it to blow over Hunny whats for tea dear."

  • @DarthCipient hahaha... awesome thought for this incredible work by Jeff Wayne and Company. If I were the aliens and I heard this music, I would put down my death ray and bring out the space bong.

  • @DarthCipient Read the book stupid..

  • @lange13dk It was a joke, dickface.

  • I am a 60 year old ex motorcycle racer and I get stupidly tearful when I hear the old Pinder driven high morality Moodies music....and I shouldnt.THIS is the first Hayward/Moodies song which qualifies as a tear jerker...and yes I have not departed from prior behavior. I can barely see to type

Hayward Lodge, Edge Thomas and the interims who HAD to bow to their genius tro pay with them or begone are not jjust a band...nooooooooooo....they are far , far more.

  • best time to listen to wotw is night time in the dark it's fantastic. But this is my all time fav track it reminds me of my grandad who passed away in 1982 ...Always in my thoughts

  • Richard Burton narrated the whole album as the journalist (The characters name eludes me) This track is most definitely Justin Hayward..He is still singing it on the live tour production..

  • Saw him in Aberdeen last year. He must be about 95, but doesn't look a day older than he did in the 70's

  • No you didn't. He died in 1984.

  • My mistake. Thought you meant Burton

  • This isn't richard burton.

    Its Justin Hayward

  • What an awesome song. Was this ever a hit? To me it's right in my top 10!

  • Its a travesty this only has four and a half stars. Great song.

  • Me and my friend had just moved into our new flat in the late 70s. We played War of the Worlds over and over. I think the neighbours thought they'd been invaded!

  • i love richard burtons voice :)

  • Is that Richard Burton's voice? I don't think so Oo

Richard Burton says words "No one belived in the last year of the ninetheeth century [...]." as I know.

  • sick tune love it to bits!

  • i like this song!!!

  • Amen to that.

  • I thought I'd add; Its a nice song. I have owned WOTW on record, tape, twice on CD (got lost in a move). It was a very good project - put together in a time when things were simpler. People spoke of enjoying music and didn't keep unwanted company; didn't seek to impose their views.

  • Steacy, i wouldn't be so assertive in your comparative view of Dan. Your sentences bare little grammatical structure, and your punctuation is somewhat dire. If i were you, i'd keep my age fairly confidential, as to be ridiculed by someone who's almost a quarter of your age, doesn't say too much about your intellect...=/

  • this is why we shudnt give the internet to old people.

  • shudnt!!?

  • um? sure...?

  • awsome
