  • great stuff and love that bass player ..and her bass is a beauty too

  • Well written song, but the lack of Dave's keys adding depth and JJ's backing vocals... I can almost hear it as a Stranglers track. Still good though.

  • Sounds more like the Stranglers than the Stranglers do!

  • Hail Caz

  • Great song, good video - thanks Hugh. Can't stop listening.

  • There's a Buzzcocks feeling attached to this. Great stuff.

  • I`m A Huuuge Hugh/Stranglers fan- Love this track, makes me think of a fellow WiB fan,Jackie!

Shame Caz aint playing for Hugh now. Thanks for posting this track-Slainte`

  • @LabiaLicker1

    The bass player is cool.

  • @ZLUGGO and HOT. lol

  • super!!!

  • Looking forward to seeing Hugh at the rescue rooms. Kicking myself for not listening to him before. He's a diamond geeeezaa

  • I've admired Hugh since I first heard The Stranglers in '78 or so, been a huge fan ever since. there's no disputing he's an icon. Going to see him in a few weeks and can't frickin' wait. Everything he's done, with the Stranglers and solo, has been gold.

  • wtf? it fades out?

a song like that cant fade out.

  • I think hoover dam works because it's raw and not overly mixed similar like the early Stranglers stuff. The songs on hooverdam are not top drawer but the sound is good and that always helps.

  • This is a real grower. First few listens I wasn't so sure. It's stuck in my head now. Can't wait to see him in Brum on 28th

  • Essentially a jamming session.

Doesnt get much better than this kids!

    Dam good drummer btw.

  • Hugh can do no wrong !

  • I'm really trying to like this. And I do. Quite. But ... I've just listened to 'Always the Sun' again and it's just SO good.

  • To say the truth:I am a big Stranglers AND Hugh fan,but I first hated Hoover Dam.But now, after listening 74 times,i love it,even more then some later stranglers stuff...It is great!!!

  • For the record Hoover Dam is a great new album. It gets better with each listen, just like most of Hugh's/Stranglers stuff.

I'm gonna order the cd, because the free download is not the highest quality (but a good intro).

Hugh works the telecaster throughout the album. Some real nice guitar licks.

  • @atomicFlyer pe3ople have realized MUSIC COMPRESSION sucks...that's why I'd rather not listen to anything on a computer...take it...from a man who's walked into an auditorium once when 124 high-definition speakers was looking at him!...I mean ...er...me...MP3 are crass and computers suck your brains out,\.

  • I met Hugh at NXNE a couple weeks back, and he actually told me about this album. Missed his movie though. Amazing guy, and I think this is still amazing stuff.

Bands change sounds and line ups. The stranglers are a different stranglers, Hugh's a different Hugh. But the thing with the ol' 77 punks is that they're coming back without destroying themselves musically. Check out some of the Damned's new stuff. Still fantastic, but evolved.

  • Don't know about the Pistols though, but it is sheer nostalgia for old punks of '77

  • To paddlepop77 : sorry I don't agree with you, but that's what we call Democracy. You can listen to (and download) the whole album on Hugh Cornwell's website. You'll see that "Within you or Without You" is about 1 mn shorter. Anyway, my favorite song so far is "The Pleasure Of Your Company". Cheers !

  • you got to move on ,he not on drugs and he not angry anymore

  • I have always loved Hugh, but this song......yawn. I wish he would go back to the old style like tunes from Wired........The Stranglers FOREVER!!!!!!!!

  • most of your comments are banal and boring especially the one that said it was six minutes too long ,brilliant come back why write any thing at all. my dad's old saying is if you got nothing good to say than don't say it at all.

  • Well... Not a bad song but : the intro is quite boring, 6 minutes is a bit too long, it just sounds like a basic guitar song a la Bo Diddley. It misses the magic sparkle of The Big Sleep, Leave It Breathe It, or Do Right Bayou. Uuuuh, Sorry, Hugh.

  • Why is he trying to sing with an American accent??

  • Caroline Campbell ( had a quick kiss from her in October 2007 ! ) and the talented Chris Bell on drums.

  • I have to have sex with Caz

  • This is Hugh! Best song I've heard recently!

Who are the other band members? Great trio.

  • great lyrics,great music,great hugh cornwell.

    love it

  • Go Hugh! I agree with Atomic Flier on the electric line-up, but your accoustic set is excellent too. Hopefully this new material will give you the wider audience you deserve.

  • I thought Dirty Dozen was great, can't wait for this new release!

Great song! I do like you best with the electric line up.

    Thanks for the early release!

  • i cant stop listening to this its fantastic.

  • Agree!

  • UTTERLY amazing...pisses on everything the Stranglers have done since Hugh left, and even a bit before.

    What a trio!

    Love it!

  • I'd agree with that too.

Looks like this album could be Hugh's best solo work yet...though it'd have to go some to beat Guilty.

  • go bo diddley! great!

  • I love this. Sounds very Velvet Underground, but that's a good thing. Can't wait for the album.

  • Dear Hugh,

Release this album now. I can't wait till May.

    Regards,

    Me

  • Average IMO but miles better than BEF

  • absoultely fucking excellent cant wait for the album in may

  • fucking brilliant!!

  • Magnificent!!!

Has blown away all the Middle of the Road cobwebs spun by Beyond Ellysian Fields

  • Best Hugh Cornwell since his early days with the Stranglers. WOW!
