I hate arrogant idiots who think brass bands are just for competitions-you should join one to enjoy. This band has a nice warm sound. Compliments to Teresa Harris. Also love the Bass trombone solo :)
@mikeyrose94 Competitions are merely an ego trip. Showing off your technical ability does not make the piece of music any more enjoyable. I enjoy music more when a band is working together well, everyone getting an equally important role.
Jesercat, yes you would need to transpose or buy Eb music. For example, your cornet/trumpet 'G' will be the same as the soprano's top 'C'. Hope this helps.
Actually the Bb trumpet "top C" (C above the stave) is the same as the Eb soprano cornet's G sitting on the top of the stave (as commented on by jack07981).
i play trumpet & if i was to buy a soprano cornet, would i play the same music as regular trumpet/cornet, or would i need to transpose since regular trumpets are Bflat and this is Eflat??? just wondering thanks...
i play trumpet and soprano cornet. u can play both it just takes a bit of gettin used 2 playing in the different keys. After a while of playin in both keys u shud be able 2 switch fairly easily. I can pitch easily after playin in that key for 5 - 10 mins.....
u can play ur trumpet music on ur sop but it will be a fourth higher so if ur playin a written G on a sop then it will feel like ur playin a C above it on trumpet, just because the notes are written lower doesnt mean they are easier to play. Its not the written note that matters its the sounding note. If the highest note u can get on a trumpet is a C then u can only get a G on sop... its easier to play in the higher register but u cant get any higher (soundin) than wat u can on trumpet.
That last comment was supposed to be a reply to crazydan's comment, but for some reason that didn't work. I just wasnted to point that out, because I didn't want people thinking I was crazy.
I have to say, I've only heard a few Sop solo pieces, played demelza myself, which can also be a tenor horn solo.. but this was well played, seems fairly straightforward though. That's not a criticism mind you, it was played really well.
It is very well played actually, and maybe you could, I don't know, but give credit where it's due, it was a good performance. Admittedly, as I said up there, it does seem like a fairly straightforward piece, but that's not a criticism, it was still played exellently.
ahh!! so weird, my name is gabriel and the oboe was my first instrument! very nice arrangement though.

Very nice job by the soloist. Unfortunately, recordings like this bring out any intonation discrepancies within the accompaniment.

Ah, this takes me back to when I was in my local Brass Band - playing in bandstands all summer.
Beautiful piece. bhollings, my band used to have the flugel play the solo too.
