very interesting -i used raw borax over 20 years.

You might try substituting soda ash (sodium carbonate-or even bi-carbonate soda) -for some borax ...if you want a less shiny/glossy glaze --yet it depends on temperature -if u don't like the matte effect, simply re-glaze.
