It's not the fire brigades fault what so ever. A fuel fire is so hard to extinguish because the smallest of flames or enough hit can re-ignite the fuel over and over. Plus dont forget this stuff would be higher octane for race peformace which would burn like hell on a good day.

As a Fire Marshall in Australia it seems to me that when the Driver exited the car the ignition was left on, and this runs the fuel pumpsno one turned of the ignition!

The only think that make the fire foamproof (not waterproof as some said, water ignite the fire in flammable liquids) is a small but stable amount of gas on a hot part like exhaust(you stop the fire but the next drop comes n start another one).Must be malfuction on the gas pump or the stupid driver -dont think so-leave the engine open. SHAME on the first pitstop crew member cause he didnt know how to start the extinguisher....

OK, It is Audi TT-R DTM. This car is from DEUTSCHE TOURENWAGEN MASTERS, Martin Tomczyk was his first driver in DTM. After season in DTM Maciej Stańco and rafał Janus was racing with this car in Poland, and also in Europe ( like in Podzimni Cena Brna in Czech Republic ). So, this is car from DTM, and this is Audi TT-R DTM. OK?

Must have a fuel source, prosumably the high octane petrol, and a reignition source, perhaps a red hot brake disc. Could do with a long tube that could be placed around the car to contain the foam.

Maybe if the tire changer had half a clue about how to properly operate a dry-chem extinguisher when the fire first started, things might have ended up a little differently (not to mention opening the rear deck lid, aka boot cover, to access the fuel cell and get the agent directly onto the burning fuel!).

Just a thought, though...
