It's more a neutral accent than American, the glottal stop is used quite a bit in some English accents I would think it becomes a bit more natural to sing 'neutral' than heavily accented. That probably makes bugger all sense to you! :D

Mainly because he's quite shy, believe it or not. And then when they have radio and tv interviews, especially in places like the UK or in America, his kids are normally with him (he has 3), so he likes to spend time with them.

On the earlier interviews, he used to talk quite a bit, but then he got married and had a family, so he did less. And like I said, he's quite shy. Bless him.
