@seekah1 I am an atheist using metaphorical terminology and from your channel content I hazard a guess that you may have taken it literally? I believe in the power of Bowie's major organs and you can attribute their creation and power upon on whomsoever you wish!
just thought i should let u guys know this concert is now on dvd from germany available on ebay... so happy! waiting for a copy now thats in the mail! :D
I thought this video was Bowie at his best. The Ziggy Stardust segment of his career, I feel was the most entertaining and had the best songs. I remember seeing this video over 30 years ago and never seen it anywhere until now. As one other commenter said, it is too bad it wasn't made into a cassette/dvd. This video is really attention getting along with great music. Anybody responding negatively doesn't appreciate for the entertainment value and has a closed mind that needs opened up.
I saw this when it first aired on TV, sitting in the basement of my parents house in Hammond, Ind. It blew me away then - and it still does! Bowie was really at his peak - never better!!!
youve always been gay sonny boy..now back to your Mother's basement and pull it...you punx just make us piss laffing ,even after 30 years...Thanks for the larfs!
Wondering where original drummer, Woody Woodmansey was? Trevor and Ronno are here, but not Woody. That's Aynsley Dunbar on drums (looking quite a bit like Marc Bolan) !!
FWIW, I am a LADY who is a fan of The Gentleman and thinks he's got the face and voice of an angel -- and love the attire/appearance -- the sparkles AND the keyhole and the kiddie-fruit-drink-red hair. And he's got the bare-torso thing going! Go, Bowie!
i love how easily and suddenly he gets into character at 0:43 . his face, everything totally changes. i especially love the emotions in his face when they return to 1984 at the end. Hell, I love everything about him, throughout the whole piece. Can't get enough of him. : D
I was lucky enough to see this when it aired on the Midnight Special back in '73. Thank you so much for posting these outtakes. I've never seen them till today. It was the most awesome show ever to be presented on the Midnight Special. Bowie & Ronson RULE

the keyhole is from a Tristan Tzara play that Dave enjoyed as a youngster..watch it,rent it,whatever...learn about this talent before he is gone forever...
Jenna, what Dave ordered was the entire Marque Club's walls be painted black to give the ABC,Midnight Special, from this club ,in London, depth.
Bowie said it falied miserably,as you can kind of tell from even the lousy Youtube reception...but ,alas...they went ahead, obviously and this was the absolute LAST time Dave would be in the guise of Ziggy.
He went overseas with the Diamond Dogs Tour a few months later.
yeah! Straight men go gay for david. :) can you blame them? It's out of their hands. And damn you for being the first thing I think about when I wake up, and the last thing I think about when I go to sleep. But I still love you! :DD
Davis is an hero ,i think he did help a lot of bisex or gay guys to eccepts his sexuality, people began understand that stop hiding his way to be means to be brave, means to be really free, and in a country like mine, where the "holy pope" live, this was so important.i completely agree U!!
Totally agree! Last month this guy entered my channel page and left amsg saying: "You must be a woman to like David Bowie like that!" What's that supposed to mean???!!! (C'mon!)

yes, totally true. You don't just "go" gay!anyway he was never actually gay, he just experimented a couple times, he always preferred women.... he even said years later that he was never actually gay. OMG I gotta watch this again to answer you! I'm about to self combust! is it hot in here?! :)
It never really mattered to me all that much, all I knew as a kid was there was something to his music that I really identified with. I think it was the alienation that he writes about all the time. But, David saying he was bi probably saved my life. He was the first role model I had. It really meant a lot. All you had then were the stereotypes on TV and here was someone who said he was and really mattered. Thanks David!
has anyone noticed how Bowie's ziggy mullet has been the ONLY successful mullet ever? my friends, only Bowie could pull off a mullet without looking like a fool.
Yes unfortunately you may be right, but I bet HELLA fans would grab this if it was for sale on DVD! Bowie is so rich though he doesn't need the money. At least "The Best of Bowie" DVD has some classic Ziggy era performances!
This thing real is tough sounding. That sax and guitar are so wack. I think Bowie is smokin, and that whole show was awesome. Even Carmen was ok, though the Stooges would have been a better group to have for the special.
i saw him at station to station too, it was the most exciting thing I have experienced but I was not backstage- I was right at the front just in front of him during the concert however. It was utterly amazing. I also saw his diamonddogs/youngamericans tour
tristan tzara was one of the first dadaists btw, which came out of the ennui after ww1 in which many suffered much loss and pain. one of the elements of dada is to shock. i think is is very helpful in todays society, which is so apathetic and dull. I saw this concert on tv when I as 13 and it blew my mind in a good way and i have never been the same since, and still love bowie and nomi who are the only dadaists around back in the 70's as far as i know
saw it on the Midnight Special and yes , although Dodo was already recorded,it was 'in the can', only....I'm also glad we have it now forever....D.Dogs,which I went to in '74 as a 15 yr.old was loosley based on the whole 1984 experience...but you knoe that...best!
i love this song and if george orwell's wife would of let bowie come out with the 1984 play which is what he wanted to do it would of been excellent , but since he wasnt aloud he ended up puting all the songs he had written for the play together to form the diamond dogs album.
Not all the songs went into DIamond Dogs, unforunately for me. After I saw this show, I went out and bought every Bowie album, just to get the song DoDo. About 20 years later I finally got it as part of a 4 CD set (along with the story as to why it was never before released. It was well worth the money and the wait, however -- there's just some specia, 1984 quality about this partially finished song by one of the greatest musical artists of our time!!!
I never tried to read into David's words, he may change his mind next week as regards what they meant. His words imo were just another audio instrument !!
you're right ! I always believed that was due to the poor quality of the video that was around so far, i never tought it had been erased for censorship
Yes it's a bit like "Falls swanking to the floor" in "Time" in the Floor Show.
What is sawnking ?? LOL
Interesting 2 note in the (final cut) take of "Time" in the broadcast version of F.S. notice "We should be on by now" Bowie misses his cue in lip syn, he's playing with his fingers, but not in the outtake version.
He had to swanking, as he could not say 'wanking', ABC,the early '70s, you can figure the rest, you must be old enough.....Great vid...anyone who want a copy, I've got one!Jeff

yeah, that pursed lip is beatiful, really. I wish I could be him.

This thing real is tough sounding. That sax and guitar are so wack. I think Bowie is smokin, and that whole show was awesome. Even Carmen was ok, though the Stooges would have been a better group to have for the special.

I love how he purses his lips when he concentrats! ^^

Dave is 5'%' approx. when I was backstage at Station to Station, I was like, 4 ft, away from th Duke, and I am only 5'9"...

i saw him at station to station too, it was the most exciting thing I have experienced but I was not backstage- I was right at the front just in front of him during the concert however.

Not that I think he is making a fool out of himself of course, but whatever he does, he's getting away with it.

I LOVE this combo...1984 and Dodo are both good songs, but they are SO much better combined.
sporks811 4 years ago 3
Actually, on second thought, I like this version of Dodo better. 1984 kicks ass no matter how you cut it, but the other version is better.

saw it on the Midnight Special and yes , although Dodo was already recorded,it was 'in the can', only....I'm also glad we have it now forever....D.Dogs,which I went to in '74 as a 15 yr.old was loosley based on the whole 1984 experience...but you knoe that...best!

i love this song and if george orwell's wife would of let bowie come out with the 1984 play which is what he wanted to do it would of been excellent , but since he wasnt aloud he ended up puting all the songs he had written for the play together to form the diamond dogs album.
seamusXX12 4 years ago 4
Not all the songs went into DIamond Dogs, unforunately for me. After I saw this show, I went out and bought every Bowie album, just to get the song DoDo. About 20 years later I finally got it as part of a 4 CD set (along with the story as to why it was never before released. It was well worth the money and the wait, however -- there's just some specia, 1984 quality about this partially finished song by one of the greatest musical artists of our time!!!

i totally agree people will try but just make fools of themselves :P

Bowie's own words are "The reason why I come up with something quite good is because I dear to make a complete foolout of myself from time to time"
Not his exact words, but you get the point.

get it onnn Bowie!
Love how he's gettin into the music.
O he just HAD to strip XDDD Go Bowie Go!
Yes. I agree. Glamour at its best.

I never tried to read into David's words, he may change his mind next week as regards what they meant. His words imo were just another audio instrument !!

He looks flawless, with porcelain skin, glamorous eye makeup, and delicately highlighted cheekbones. To me, he is the definition of glamour.

The only other intelligent indidiual that used the word, adjective 'porcelain', in ref. to David's skin...way to go pal!JEFF in T.O.

The keyhole design is a takeoff on Tristan Tzara's movie 'La Couer de Gaz', the Gas Heart....one of David's faves....Jeff

"Another memo to screw" First time we have heard that line in the F.S. video.
thevisitortjn 5 years ago
you're right ! I always believed that was due to the poor quality of the video that was around so far, i never tought it had been erased for censorship
bintjes 5 years ago
Yes it's a bit like "Falls swanking to the floor" in "Time" in the Floor Show.
What is sawnking ?? LOL
Interesting 2 note in the (final cut) take of "Time" in the broadcast version of F.S. notice "We should be on by now" Bowie misses his cue in lip syn, he's playing with his fingers, but not in the outtake version.
thevisitortjn 5 years ago
He had to swanking, as he could not say 'wanking', ABC,the early '70s, you can figure the rest, you must be old enough.....Great vid...anyone who want a copy, I've got one!Jeff
