  • Nice to see someone has already done it. I'm looking at buying a 2.7 and dropping in a 13B as well. Although, what was the total cost of the build?

  • @carbonfibreguy

I really do not remember the cost. A lot depends on cost of engine. The engine in the vids was only $3500 complete because it had 1500 miles on it. It was built and came with the Haltech.

I'm guessing a couple grand over the engine.

    Kennedy Engineered adapter for Transmission.

    Clutch was good.

Made my own motor mounts and cooling tubes.

    Junkyard radiator.

  • What tranny do you have, what motor to tranny adapter did you use? what are the performance numbers? Thank you.

  • @247yap

Stock 915 transmission. Kennedy Engineered Products adapter. It dynoed at 333 Rear wheel horse.

  • Twice the power and no valves to adjust ! Excellent.

  • Cool!!!!! Fuck this is awesome!!!!!! Who ever made this you rule.

  • Not a Porsche anymore - it's a Mazda wrapped in candy.

  • So if you put a Porsche 924 motor in the RX7 in your garage it would become a Porsche?

  • @YouTUser2008

Nope, especially not when it's my grandmother's RX-7 - 40,000km, garaged since new.

  • damn dis a very rare car must b worth a bit aye

  • this is great.... love it... must be a lot of fun to drive...

  • oke rotary engines are funny aslong as thay work :P but why putting it in a targa? just why?:P

no offence but wassent there enugh money to get the engine an new build up?/revission?

  • Apparently you are not familiar with the U.S, spec 2.7 liter engine. Very expensive to get 270 flywheel horse and then it runs even hotter.

  • @YouTUser2008 yup...for the most part, the 2.7's are garbage. You can go through them if you'd like and spend thousands of dollars in parts and labor, or you can swap something else in. I've always liked the 3.2 and g50 tranny combo for such a job, but this is damn cool and probably a bit cheaper, not to mention the power made is greater.

  • that is freakin' awesome, rotary engines are pretty sick.

  • The car is for sale by the new owner. It is in the

Atlanta Ga area. Price is very reasonable. Snap it up while you can.

  • dude, nice swap...check mine out as well...very nice

  • this is almost as badass as the wrx sti engine in the Volkswagon Beetle.....

  • What a slap in Porsches face... this poor poor glass back. :-\

  • kinda. but now its twice as fast and doesn't leek oil all over his driveway.

  • This guy's response is exactly why I love what you've done here.

I'm a Porsche fanatic but many of my fellow Zuffenhausen fans are way too serious and uptight - regretfully a common thread among European car guys.

And come on, it's not like this is an early SWB, 964 RS or a 993 - it's a freaking Targa.

    So yeah, props!

  • ugly car

  • cheap 930 killer =p

id love to get a cheap 70s chassis and do this

  • good car made a hell of alot better.

  • Hey, at least you can spell!

I fail to see how 333 wheel horsepower ruins a Porsche. Also, it no longer leaks oil (so I guess it is not a "real" Porsche anymore?).

  • meh, drill a small hole in the bottom of the crankcase and it will be that old friend again :) haha

  • if it's built just for the road, i think you did all that work for nothing... i'm pretty sure that an original 2.7 flat-6 is producing more torque at lower revs and that's exactly what you need for the road - not all those HP at (near) redline. if it's also built for track-use, you just did the best engine-swap to your 911! just 'cause i'm wondering: is it a normal 13B turbo or have you also turned it into a SP, BP or even PP? anyway, it's a great job you did there!

  • Well the porsches engine makes 250nm of torque at 5100rpm. thats pretty high in the rpm range. Thats pretty similar to where a 13b makes its peak torque. Also the flat 6 makes about 200hp at 6300rpm. Other wise the rotary will leave it for dust and be fine street driven. Turbo rotarys have alright torque, but not if there running na.

  • and the stock 13b twin turbo set up in the fd rx7 makes 300nm of torque at 5000rpm. thats allot better than the flat 6 in the old porsche. and because this rotary is not stock and making 333hp it is probably making more torque than the stock fd engine. so your wrong ;)

  • Thing is a beast. Is it a 13bt or a 13b rew?? looks like a 13bt but I thought i'd ask. If so, did u use s4 or s5 engine?? and the rotors?? anyways, great looking car. How about some more videos of you giving it gas?? :)

  • It is an s5 engine from a 1989. It produced 333 wheel horsepower at 271 torque. I have since sold the car so there will be no more videos of it.

  • Man, that sucks. That was such a beautiful vehichle. So many ways to experiment with it. Any particular reason that you sold it??? like something not in your likeing?? and you should try to get the new owner to post some more heh, anyways, great props to you!

  • What about a FR Porsche with a Rotary?

  • Oh no, that'd be a travesty - Porsche's sanctity must be preserved you heathen!

Just kidding, great idea! Anyway the 944 had a motor loosely based on a VW truck engine, fuck these uppity purists.

  • I think if Porsche ever made good use of it in their actual production cars a LOT more people would think higher of the rotary than they do today. And maybe they wouldn't have been banned from Le Mans

  • Actually the 924 had a vw van engine. The 944 engine is one half of the 928s v8 which was 100 percent built in house

  • i want to do this swap.. get a cheap 70s 911 chassis and do the rotary swap. i think it could be a 930 killer. Got any links or sites on more info of the swap? I cant find anything on google besides old threads when this car was for sale. I know kennedy makes a adapter

  • No help on this one. The info that came with the Kennedy adapter was about the most help of anything. It is a LOT of work. There is tons more info on a Small Block Chevy transplant.

  • thanks for the reply.. Could you give sum ammount of how much was spent on the parts *excluding labor* and minus the aftermarket goodies.. just bare minimum stuff like the adapter and additional stuff like the rad etc.

Id like to think the stock mazda top mount intercooler would be ok. Besides the mount/flywheel ordeal, was it just plumbing the radiator, and wiring?

  • I do not remember how much all of it cost. I made most of the custom parts myself. I spent a lot of time in junkyards looking for just the right size radiator, fan etc.

The motor is the big cost. Do not expect a used JDM motor to last more than a few months. Start with a good rebuild.

The rear motor mounts were a pain.

  • If you are going to be rude, at least learn to spell.
