am i doing the right hand position wrong if my pointer finger is on the first string (high e, standard tuning), my middle finger is on the 2nd (b) and ring finger is on the third (g). ive been so used to it this way, i just cant play right the other

ok here's the thing. Do NOT listen to this guy on classical guitar. I'm sure he's a nice guy but he hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. His 'technique' is appalling.If you follow people like this you will develop very bad habits that will prevent you from improving. people should refrain from posting rubbish like this, it does more harm than good. And...learn to read music for god's sake! It isn't that difficult and you will need it, Pay for a good local teacher and be prepared to work!!

@ListenToOurTorture for classical guitar , no not really. There's a lot of people teaching it on youtube but most of them are pretty bad and you'll get contradictory information. If you hunt around the classical guitar websites your instinct should guide you to which ones know what they are talking about-. Get good books, gather lots of information and find a good local teacher is my advice.

So which finger hits the 4th string? You've you thumb on 5, index on 3, middle on 2 and ring on 1. Is it the thumb that follows through and strikes the 4th string?

If you dont play with nails, use low tension strings :)

Nails aren't essential, Tarrega didn't play with them! But I much prefer the feeling and sound from playing with nails.

Why did someone thumb this guy down? There are other picks than your regular picks. He is referring to FINGERPICKS. Very great tools for guitar, just google fingerpicks and you'll see what it is.

That's because you don't have nails. If you want to have a sharp tone, and play classical at all, you must grow them, or play with a pick :D

dont just grow them out, if you do that they will be square, and weak, theyll break and have uneven sounds. When you grow your nails use a file to round them off, its very important, itll only take about 2 weeks to get to a point where you can use your nails
