  • this is the best elton love song ever!

  • :O i can relate to this song......alot actually

  • such a sweet song, love this time.

  • A classical work of Art for the ears

  • thanks for posting, these songs needed to be heard

  • Yo tuve una novia que tenía este disco, de la novia no quiero acordarme, pero al menos conocí esta maravilla y hoy 25 años después me encuentro con esta obra de arte.

  • I saw this picture when i was very young.Beautiful.

  • One of Elton's most under rated, least known masterpieces. Just a great song from the most talented singer songwriter of our time....

  • Love. Such an important song in my live.

  • SIMPLY ONE OF THE MOST TENDER, ROMANTIC AND INNOCENT SONGS EVER WRITTEN, FOR ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOVIES EVER MADE. ONE OF ELTON JOHNS GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS!

  • Thank you, Matty! I was a lonely 19 year old college student when I first heard this album, and it helped me connect with the people around me in a way that I never understood before. I am still friends with some of those people. Music meant so much to me then and now. It's amazing how it can change our lives and even more amazing how it has helped to change society.

  • Fantastic!!

  • He was married to a women once. Not for long. I forget her name. I don't care Elton is a genius and now is Sir Elton John. Reginald Dwight by birth.....

  • Great movie. Great song. I love it. Thanks so much.

  • this should be called Michael's Song intead lmao

  • Elton dosent kiss women, only men !

  • his best song

  • I prefer the Shrum version. *snicker*

  • This is the soundtrack of first kisses, love found and lost, and the all too brief sweetness of youth, "no one's going to find us, no matter how they try." I remember going off with my first girlfriend after we saw this together and so happy our feet barely touched the ground.

  • Ah. This movie was a great fantasy for an 18 year old and his girlfriend. We really believed that we could run away to the south of France and live this wonderful life. We were so much in love!

  • I truly loved this picture and all the music contained in it! It was so long ago, but I still remember all the lyrics!

  • Is this song really called Michelle's song? Why don't I hear Michelle's name once in this song?

  • @mushoutlaw How many times do you hear annies name mentioned in annies song? :)

  • @MattyWestie Actually, we now know that he probably wanted to name this "Michael's Song," but the 70's was a time with less tolerance than now ü.

  • @MattyWestie ...and also the song "sandra" by barry manilow, sandra was never mentioned in the song

  • @MattyWestie I agree. Just because a song is dedicated to someone, that doesn't mean that the person's name is going to be in the song.

  • @mushoutlaw the name of the actress in the movie is michelle, if i remember it right...

  • @mushoutlaw How many times do you hear "Guy" in "Song for Guy" :P

  • @mushoutlaw it's called Michelle's song because the girl in the picture is Michelle in the Friends movie

  • @mushoutlaw if you had seen the movie you would understand

  • @mushoutlaw This was made for the soundtrack to the film "friends". Michelle is the young girl who runs away with her young friend Paul. So you can see this as Paul saying this to Michelle.

  • @mushoutlaw The girls name was Michelle and it basically tells her story and how she felt about life.

  • Before Elton John became famous, this film came out way back 1971 with all of the songs sung and written by him and Bernie Taupin. One of the movies of the 70's that made a deep impact on all who were lucky enough to have seen this in their youth at their local cinema. The innocence of youth and first love had been sweetly portrayed here with the accompanying songs and vocals of Elton John makes this film a memorable one to remember our youth by.

  • My 10 year old boy loves this song! we listen to in the car all the time on our various road trips. Met with Paul Buckmaster in November.

  • One of my all-time favorite albums for 40 years!

  • just beautiful!!!!!

  • Matty, thanks for posting the Friends songs.....nice to know I am not the only one that loves the music...

  • I saw this movie when I was 14 on TV in Japan, now more than 2 decades past.

My mind go back to the age, having a wonderful nostalgic feeling! Oh, this pure love!

Thank you so much for the posting! I love, love this sound track!!

Now I'm gonna start live life again.

  • Honestly, I don't know which version of this song I like more, with Elton on vocals, or completely instrumental. Both versions are so beautiful to me! I truly am an Elton John fan, both his voice and his piano playing, but how can anyone ignore this outstanding orchestration?

  • @TheFIRSTFatJohn was this conducted by paul buckmaster?

  • @godwhyisthistaken That I don't know, but I believe you are correct.

  • The title song is beautiful. I made a comment but forgot to mention that I still have my album I bought then. The songs are so beautiful. The movie was so touching since I was a teen at that time. It made me feel a love in me...but didn't have it for anyone. Just was briefly dating someone. Wish these songs were played on the radio.

  • I thought I was the only person on the planet who loved this soundtrack. It's great to find out there are many others like me. I am terminally ill. Please keep this soundtrack alive for the next generation, as I have no children to pass it on to.

  • @otylerose

may God bless you, friend... this was the music playing quietly in the room for the weeks

of rapture with my first love..you are not alone

  • @otylerose --- "our time was never better...."

  • @otylerose "for we watched as on the skyway... the herons circled slowly... while we, mere mortals, watched them fly... our sleepless eyes grew heavy..."

    (peace sweet angel)

  • At the turn of the '70's, rock and classical music were totally separate entities, listened to by different kinds of people, of different ages, on different radio stations. The Moody Blues bridged the gap and fused rock with classical, with "Days of Future Passed" in 1967. This album did the same, and while not a commercial rock success, it found an audience ready for something else. I had it- it's great!

  • My friend Steve is one of the biggest Elton fans on the planet. I thought he was the only one who loved this soundtrack. We once went to see an Elton tribute band called Captain Fantastic. He requested this song. The front man played some of it. He couldn't play the whole song because the band didn't know it.

  • It's amazing that none of the EJ biographies online mention this album - which IMO is one of his best. Written for the movie, a beautiful and poignant story about friendship turning into love. The kind of love that is innocent and pure - And happens without realizing it. Great writers like Jane Austen wrote about this kind of love. It's so pure and innocent and natural - I wish everyone to fall in love this way it will always be remembered as your most precious time in life. Thanks Matty

  • Elton nunca morrerá em nossos corações, suas canções são eternas.

  • Ive loved this song since i first heard it, love allthe old taupin songs

  • "We learn to be so graceful watching wild horses running..."

Not ashamed to admit that the beauty of this song has brought tears to my eyes every time I've heard it.

  • Sue, I will never forget our times together as friends. You introduced me to this movie and sound track. I kept the vinyl you gave me for years until I passed it on to my daughter. Thanks for teaching me how to write songs and play guitar. Thanks for taking me to Elton's concert in Dodger Stadium in '74. The Lord took you back so early. You always laughed with me until we cried. Bob and I miss you so much. I love you so much my "sister" Susan. I will be with you again, so go get your 12 string.

  • Haven't heard these songs in 40 years. What a beautiful movie and a beautiful soundtrack.

  • totally spechless wow just brings back the memery's

    thanks elton

  • my God, this is beautiful

    perfect sentiment in its simplicity

elton & bernie were incomparable back then

  • I was so very happy to see that someone uploaded the entire album. This soundtrack has always been my favorite. It brings me back to a time when things seemed so much more simple. I still play my album with all the "popcorn" and scratches, sometimes it's the last thing I hear before I fall off to sleep,

  • Reminds me of what could have been but will never be. Things that i could have done but didn't.

  • @JTRTW31763 - Thanks for putting in words what I've always thought and tried to share to others but just never said as clear as you did. I do try to tell the younger people that today they are making tomorrows memories. They just don't know what I'm talking about. - But come to think of it..... back then, neither did I.

  • Thanks MattyWestie for this wonderful upload!

I've been an Elton fan since 1973, collecting every vinyl (33s & 45s) which the Captain had released...and like you, Elton fans just know where to find those little treasures here and there in between his chart-toppers and billboard hits...thanks again!

  • Love this movie -I can find CD - saw thismovie when Iwaas 14....15 ? Who knows I am 53 going on 54.... oh Youth .... the sweet bird of youth....melancolia melancolich anoranza wanting what can we say,

  • lo mejor de Elton John

  • Thank you MW for taking me back to the "Wonder Years." Beautiful movie where the music was just perfect. Used to do a guitar duo gig with a friend and we played this song. It meant alot then, and as I am falling in love at this time, it means alot now. Thank you so much!!!

  • Truly, one of my most memorable movie & movie sound track. This is my first movie date with my very first girlfriend...where I tasted my first kiss.

  • @renedelloson That's so cool. Thank you for sharing that. I've loved this soundtrack since 1974 when my sister bought it at a flea market. It will always be my favorite music. LOVE it. I was never able to find the movie until recently on youtube. It was exactly what I pictured.

  • Lovely song. I have looked for the movie Friends to rent, but I can't find it :-(

  • THANK YOU..THANK YOU..maraming maraming salamat sa iyo..Matty...

  • Just the way I remember it. Just listen to the fabulous orchestral arrangement. Classic.

  • I had just graduated from high school in 1970 and thought I'd heard it all - then this album and film came out and I was transformed and transported to a new appreciation in what I thought good music was all about. I sometimes wonder where Elton could have gone if he'd done more of this kind of music....hmmm....guess we'll never know.

  • what a pleasure to hear this music again. Thank you

  • I was 13 years old when this song came on the radio. I went to see this movie and it was nice. Whenever I listen to this song, it always takes me back to the wonderful time I had gone through when I was a kid - I certainly had a blast.

  • One of his best! Moody wistful.

  • Brought me to tears as no song on here has, remembering those painful yet wonderful years long ago!

  • I saw the movie in 1971 with Georgia. I purchased the album, and years later the cassette tape. And I played them over and over until they wore out. This movie made a huge impact on my young life at that time. Hearing the theme song here evokes such emotion that it brings tears. I suggest the reason we all remember it so fondly is because the lyrics expressed what we couldn't as teens; that we could love deeply, and live responsibly...something our parents could not believe or understand.

  • She burned brighter than the sun and was more naked to me than a pink flower on the open...

  • When this movie and it's wonderful soundtrack came out I had certain things going on in my life that are long over & and long gone. Me this old geezer it was a good & romantic era and, altho I abhor romantic movies I loved this one & identified with it at the time. Hearing this song for the first time in a very long while brought a tear to my eye. If you are 21 or so appreciate those wonderful years.

  • @boxart30 You bet! Know what you're talking about.

  • OMG... What can say about this particular song?, It's so beutiful, the lyrics, the tune, the melody is just so perfect and fortunatelly fit with the movie. Elton John made a wonderful perfomance. This song bring me so warms memoies to my heart and soul...I mean it !!! Simply unforgettable...

  • I've thoughroughly enjoyed reading so many positive comments regarding the friends soundtrack, Its amazing how something that seems so mundane and commercially neglected has touched so many lives in so many personal ways. I'm sad that being 21 I was never around to see what mr Bury himself described as the innocence of it all. I was just a mere EJ collector until I posted Friends on youtube, it seems now i've been converted into the early 70s experience too.Keep bringing on the comments!

  • @MattyWestie Matty, live your life now. Don't feel sad about not being from another time. These songs are timeless and crying is part of life. I thought of all I have lost since I had this record and it is sad but I prefer it all happened than didn't. Anyway, I love that you love this music. Just the fact that you recognize greatness probably means you have some of your own to offer those around you; yourself; all of us; the world whomever! Thanks for putting this on here! Good luck!

  • @MattyWestie I'm totally agree with your point of view.

  • @MattyWestie ......just a huge note of thanks for the memories......

  • @MattyWestie YOU ROCK!

  • @MattyWestie It's your fault you were not born in the 60's. You could have been a FLOWER CHILD!

  • It is to me one of the finest arrangements of modern music; strings line is very smooth and harmonic, rich in textures, oboe or clarine line add a superb touch, and not to talk of the beautiful lyrics and a wonderful vocal performance of Sir Elton John. I was an 8 year old boy when this LP arrived home in Mexico City, and I believe it shaped mi taste in music forever. Thank you for posting.

  • By far the most beautiful of Elton's songs that went mostly unheard in the 1970s. I heard it then....it got me then and it still does.

  • 56-year-olds rule! I am, too. I hadn't thought about this song for years until this morning. I have the LP but never saw the movie.

  • I totally agree with the "Buckmaster" comment. His arrangements have been the linchpin for many of Elton & Bernie's most beautiful works. It has always amazed me...how these "matches in heaven" are discovered. But let us not forget "Gus Dudgeon's" brilliant productions..

  • I love Paul Buckmaster's string arrangement on this, the melody, the opening piano riff, the story the lyrics convey. This song is on of my all time favorites,,,It still 'takes me away" though not same as it did when I dreamed of taking that "train towards the southland" when I was in my teens....DSC

  • "From those agile angels

we knew the tide was turning!"

    Good luck with that!

So much HAS changed- (I'm 56 too)-

    sometimes I think THEY won-

this is what they mock, it's beauty and sensitivity-

But listen children, all is not lost...

keep on with the good vision- it will be coming around again....

  • I read so many of these comments, voicing "laments of the passage of time, and what's no more". I'm 56...and I'm there everyday, not matter what - I stay in that time. Who says "you shouldn't or can't"...who are "they"? Aren't they the same ones whom Paul and Michelle were running from in the movie? Have you become "they"? You'll be gone one day, that's for sure, and won't ever feel this way again. All of what you've been and felt will fade, so keep it view for as long as you can.

  • The Greatest Melody Writer Ever In Popular Music

  • I agree. I'm not into romantic love songs, but there are exceptions. This is one of my favourites.

  • How romantic for a Sunday.

  • one of the most romantic songs ever written, a song about very young ove...but a love song for any age

  • Beautiful song. It makes me cry listening to the song.
