Why in the fuck are Jutin Bieber and Miley Cyrus evenon is track?! To think they have the balls to even be up there with the likes of Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand is almost more nauseating than their "voices."
@Corporatism You really don't know how autotune works, do you? That may be the basis for autotune, but that's not how its used. How it's used is at certain precise segments in the song, the original frequency is changed to a specific frequency that matches a certain musical note. Here, it seems that it was autotuned with automatic autotune software, where it doesn't sustain that note completely if the note is changing (like vibrato or voice crack), making it waver in tone.
the should have had that shot of jeff bridges juxtapose to the shot of dan dan aykroyd from the original. at least they got their "random wtf celebrity in there.
I find it utterly hilarious how in just 3 months that these hacks switched from Haiti to the stupid, pandering, pep talk songs and the "It Get's Better" horseshit
I have a few questions here: How was The Dude unable to help this song rock? Why is the 2010 version worse than the 80's version? How in the name of god did Wyclef Jean do that with his voice? (Still wish I could do that)
To be honest, Bieber wasn't the worst part of the song, he's not THAT bad a singer. He isn't my style, but at least he's more respectable than the rappers in that one section of the song...
Todd, if you haven't already, you should check out the Canadian equivalent to this song--Wavin' Flag. Dunno how good your Quebecois might be, but the song is pretty okay. I think it might help you feel better about this song if you get to make an obligatory jab at Celine Dion.
I have just discovered why Wyclef sings like this: Try to imitate this "AaAaAaAa" part in any of the songs you like. It is absolutely hillarious and I guarantee it will make you smile.
I think it's funny that Band Aid released a song to help people who were starving by singing "Feed the World", and then America comes up with it's own version saying "We are the world".
The ironic thing is no matter how much aid you send to Africa at once, it will not change the fact that technology sucks over there. They cannot sustain a large population, so people starve. The millions raised by the event let the children have a bit more food each day for...a month or so. It didn't help them become any more capable of feeding themselves. An ounce of reform does more good in the long run than a ton of charity.
@Glennzorz2 Oh my, Do They Know It's Christmas. Of all the terrible 80's Christmas songs, that one is by far the worst. Paul McCartney's horrific christmas-time synth monstrosity sounds like a choir of angels compared to that sanctimonious piece of guilt trip.
@5196Tpffan It's so sanctimonious. What if the people they're trying to "help" don't even celebrate Christmas? Why paint ALL of Africa in such a terrible light? Why consign Botswana to the same fate as famine-ravaged Sudan? It just assumes that all of Africa is a terrible, horrific place where nothing good can ever happen unless American Christmas shoppers deign to help them, and then it doesn't even offer any solutions for helping people who DO need aid except "buy this song and feel guilty."
I think my biggest problem is the rap part. Even if alot of your pop stars are rappers, there's no reason to jerry-rigg a rap part into a song that didn't need it. If anything, they should have had all the rappers do their own song, like all the metal bands in the 80s did with their song "Stars". Same situation I think. Probably would have been ten time better than this.
... Anybody else thinking that Nature's trying to kill off all humans? Ow! My keyboard just slapped me! Twice!
I knew signing a deal with satan would lead to bad stuff happening.
That aside, I tried 4 times to donate to the red cross via google and it kept rejecting the only credit card I have. Again, I blame lucifer the morning star.

As for the remake, THOSE ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE THEY COULD FIND?!
Also, no mention of Bob Geldof/Band Aid/Don't They Know It's Christmas. Wow, that's kind of surprising, considering that's what started all the charity songs/benefit concerts/whathaveyou.
3:33 : that was actually Jennifer Nettles (REALLY famous in the country world.. like REALLY famous since 2005.... but the country world doesn't count)
I remember hearing a group like this sing "All you need is love" in the same way, but every female singer always extended the line, so instead of singing "Theres nothing you can do that cant be done" it was "Theres nothing you can dooooo that cant be doOOOOAAAOOWWWWWAOWOWOWOOWOWWOOWWNNNNNNA" But they kept th back track the same as the Beatles ver, so it got off sync a bit. Can someone just bring George Harrison back from the dead and have a "Concert For Hatti" Insted of Bangladesh?
@LibraHorse1 That IS how autotune works. Not the vocoder autotune. I mean studio autotune, where every note is planned, and whenever the singer sings out of the note, it keeps wavering back and forth between the set note and the note he/she is singing. I doubt that it's a Haitian singing technique, since I'm from the island right next to it, and I haven't heard one Haitian person sing like that.
Who the hell is Barbera Streisand? All I know is about some bitchy lady owning a house on a lake who tried (futilly) to sue a photographer for taking a picture of it. Ohhhhhhhhhhh... Akward. At least South Park taught me SOMETHING
I am a tad disappointed you made no mention of Willie Nelson. I was looking forward to poke a joke at him. Other than that tiny thing, I loved this review.
isn't it a bit of a double standard that they kept Michael Jackson's part in but replaced Ray Charles? I mean i know this came out around the time of Jackson's death and he co-wrote it, but it still seems like a double standard
The original at least (as corny as it was) was made with heart and passion, someone wrote it for the poor people (MJ) and was therefor quite good and beautiful, the Haiti version on the other hand, is just going the cheap way with re-using a song written about 20 years before (I mean at least Micheal Jackson showed he cared by making an original song). Thus showing they really don't care that much...And of course the awful singing in the Haiti version...
I was gonna write reviews about Liberty Mutual's "Responsibility Project" videos until I was slammed by family and friends for wanting to write a not-totally-positive review of the project. I can ONLY IMAGINE the flak you took for doing this review.
From what I've read, most YouTubers agree with you--but I guarantee that someone out there is mad at you for even suggesting that there's anything wrong with ANY charity acts. (My opinion: It's nice that you stuck to your standards anyway.)
Thank you for giving this cover what it deserves. I literally felt ill first time I heard it - a horrible rape of the original. The Haiti version was soulless. Absolutely soulless. (Yeah, I liked the original , even with it's corny lyrics, as it was a gathering of some of the brightest talents of the time.)
ben affleck: joan jett, robin williams, huey lewis, cameron diaz, harrison ford, don cheadle, perry ferrell, mclovin, meat loaf, pete wentz and josh groban.
WATW254H: justin bieber, miley cyrus, t-pain, lil wayne, tony bennett, barbara striesand, akon, vince vaughn, wyclef jaen and josh groban
i agree 100% the only person who actually cared about the people is michael jackson...everyone else just did it to either get noticed or so they can say "i did at least one thing for charity"
@lolwat13 yeah, Gaga said she was asked to do it, but declined because she found it pointless, but she did donate money from what I heard. Taylor Swift had other engagements, plue I doubt she wanted to be in the same room as Kanye back then, and for some reason Beyonce was never considered, and Jay-z already said no and he didn't like the idea, also Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, and Justin Timberlake should have been considered, and take Bieber, Miley, auto-tune and the Jonas out, and it would be ok.
Dude what is wrong with Bebe Winans? I mean yeah he's a Christian Artist, but still... He's more fit to have been apart of that 25th anniversary of "We Are The World" than Lil' Wayne...
Kanye Sez: Kids, there's nothing more cool than singing for someone you like. But if someone tries to touch your mic in a way or a place that makes you feel uncomfortable, that's no good. It's your mic! No one has the right to steal it if you don't want them to! So what do you do? First, you say "I'm happy for you and I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce has some of the greatest videos of all time!" Then, you get out of there! Most important, you gotta tell someone you trust like Lil Wayne!
I honestly thought that you edited Wyclef's voice in some way. So I looked it up, thats the way he sounds. I really dont know what to say. He sounds like a drunken Tarzan, this is what I would expect from a robot chicken sketch. Great review also.
@Whackooyzero But seriously, don't you think it would be kind of cool if they remade Hear N' Aid for the death of Dio? Because even though it might be ruined by having A7X or Slipknot in it, there's still a chance that some really good bands could get together to do it.
aw c'mon people, why all the hate against justin? Is it so cool to hate him and is so fun to come up with "clever" stuff to say about him? pease, leave that kid alone, he hasn't done anything wrong.
@whyequalswhat Um... That seems to be the case... I mean name one singer that shows true genuine talent in their songs that's on the pop charts... Or any of the mainstream charts... Go ahead name one...
@LittleRainbowMiss Well he was picked up by Usher... Whom I feel everyone who hates Beiber should direct their disdain towards, because rather than improve Beiber's talent, he chooses to add auto-tuner to Beiber's already decent singing voice. This kid has the potential to within a few years' time rival some of the best R&B singers, and they choose to turn him into a temporary icon to be thrown out when he reaches 18 or 20.
@DemonicRemption actually his voice isn't autotuned in his songs, maybe in some, but in most of them his voice is just a little mixed, but that's what they always do to everyone, but anyways
@LittleRainbowMiss Mixed, autotuned... laziness is laziness... A lot of great singers have honed their craft, trained their voices to have the vocal charisma needed to sing. Beiber has that potential, but they're not utilizing it... It all boils down to the inevitable fact that he's just an image that will be discarded when the next teen idol comes a long a few years from now...
@DemonicRemption okay, but I think that "bieberfever" is the craziest point to be a fan of somebody, I mean, I've had bieber fever for more then a year now and it hasn't eased off, so I think that justin is going to sing for a long time, just like usher did
@LittleRainbowMiss You? Stricken with BeiberFever? HA! What a joke... You apparently are recovering from it judging by your rather rational responses. Most girls overcome with such a thing don't give compelling arguments beyond "You're just jealous." They don't take the time to understand how the pop industry works and it's loop holes. You on the other hand have an understanding of how the pop industry works.
what's Babs in the last one too! If it was Lady Gaga , Lilly Allen , Corine Bailey , Alanis Morissette , Babs. P!nk is in it.... there's that. Beiver reminds me of the girl-sounding country singer. Josh Groban is pretty awesome though. I really hate the rap part. that's really going to kill the sales for old people.
Why in the fuck are Jutin Bieber and Miley Cyrus evenon is track?! To think they have the balls to even be up there with the likes of Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand is almost more nauseating than their "voices."

@masterbassist93
Wycleaf is from Haiti, so this hit home for him.
So apparently it seems he was...."emotional" during this song 0_o

@wolfenklaue Todd: I'd like to hear your take on 1990's "Rock Aid Armenia" cover of Smoke On The Water.

@mistressofmuses Actually, the saddest would've been "not even the power of the Dude, Chuck Norris, and God combined can't save this song".

i agree 100% the only person who actually cared about the people is michael jackson...everyone else just did it to either get noticed or so they can say "i did at least one thing for charity"

I was actually really suprised about the lack of Gaga, Swift, and Beyonce.
lolwat13 1 year ago 4
@lolwat13 yeah, Gaga said she was asked to do it, but declined because she found it pointless, but she did donate money from what I heard. Taylor Swift had other engagements, plue I doubt she wanted to be in the same room as Kanye back then, and for some reason Beyonce was never considered, and Jay-z already said no and he didn't like the idea, also Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, and Justin Timberlake should have been considered, and take Bieber, Miley, auto-tune and the Jonas out, and it would be ok.

I actually like Josh Groban and I think he realized what a stupid project he was on. (Not the charity aspect but the song itself)

This is probably why I like Wyclef: I knew one day he'd snap and make me almost piss my pants!

We are the World just wishes it was "Hear N Aid".
Bassbait 1 year ago
@Bassbait Haha I gotta wonder if anyone here gets that reference. Solid Dio song with an awesome solo.
Whackooyzero 1 year ago
@Whackooyzero But seriously, don't you think it would be kind of cool if they remade Hear N' Aid for the death of Dio? Because even though it might be ruined by having A7X or Slipknot in it, there's still a chance that some really good bands could get together to do it.

aw c'mon people, why all the hate against justin? Is it so cool to hate him and is so fun to come up with "clever" stuff to say about him? pease, leave that kid alone, he hasn't done anything wrong.
LittleRainbowMiss 1 year ago
@LittleRainbowMiss - Besides existinh, yeah, he hasn't done anything.
RDV333 1 year ago
@LittleRainbowMiss he's making it seem that you don't need talent to be successful in the music industry
whyequalswhat 1 year ago 3
@whyequalswhat Um... That seems to be the case... I mean name one singer that shows true genuine talent in their songs that's on the pop charts... Or any of the mainstream charts... Go ahead name one...
DemonicRemption 1 year ago
@LittleRainbowMiss Well he was picked up by Usher... Whom I feel everyone who hates Beiber should direct their disdain towards, because rather than improve Beiber's talent, he chooses to add auto-tuner to Beiber's already decent singing voice. This kid has the potential to within a few years' time rival some of the best R&B singers, and they choose to turn him into a temporary icon to be thrown out when he reaches 18 or 20.
DemonicRemption 1 year ago
@DemonicRemption actually his voice isn't autotuned in his songs, maybe in some, but in most of them his voice is just a little mixed, but that's what they always do to everyone, but anyways
LittleRainbowMiss 1 year ago
@LittleRainbowMiss Mixed, autotuned... laziness is laziness... A lot of great singers have honed their craft, trained their voices to have the vocal charisma needed to sing. Beiber has that potential, but they're not utilizing it... It all boils down to the inevitable fact that he's just an image that will be discarded when the next teen idol comes a long a few years from now...
DemonicRemption 1 year ago 2
@DemonicRemption okay, but I think that "bieberfever" is the craziest point to be a fan of somebody, I mean, I've had bieber fever for more then a year now and it hasn't eased off, so I think that justin is going to sing for a long time, just like usher did
LittleRainbowMiss 1 year ago
