A wonderful tribute. I'm not a fan of war, but I guess in some cases, it may be a neccesary choice. As for those who left the insulting messages, I assume they have their reasons. We also have people in America who are vocal about other countries in a negative way, and these remarks, of a small uneducated few, are what seem to be heard around the world, unfortunately. This country was made from many different people, and all should know how much France did for us to gain our freedom. Thank you!!
as long as there is war there will be pain. war comes with a price of anger, greed, and pain. which will then give birth to mor pain and more war. it is impossible for us to truely understand one another. we all belive in different things, and nomatter what u do u can never understand the pain of somones life or their memories. as long as we are here, there will be war, and peace can never be achived. for it will become more war and pain.(vote up if u agree). I am from canada and took a trip here to visit this incredible and moving monument.
Was alone on a very somber and reflective morning.. Watching the tourists take photos, giggle and laugh it gave me a kind of bittersweet sensation.
It struck my nerve that they made so light ,such a tragic and important affair....but than i remembered the men whom i was surrounded by and what they did that allowed us to have the freedoms to come here with our families and live out our lives in peace
Went a few years ago, the majority of the US graves in Normandy are here, an incredible place, very sad, but also very peaceful. British and Canadian graves are spread out over several different sites
All or the decisive battles where fought in the east. Thats where the best of the german army was and all of the biggest battles. They didnt help they beat the germans. Look at all the battles they was nothing on that scale in the west. The east was the main theatre of the war.
@hsybcmpny No. The East was a stalemate slaughter house. The only "decisive battle" was Stalingrad. Normandy was huge, and because of it, Germany had to worry about another front (which they already had 2 of). Saying Normandy was not decisive even though it was one of the largest military operations and battles in history is insulting the men who died fighting.
We went to the Polish Cemetery in Normandy. It is beautifully cared for and also very moving. The Polish servicemen were a credit to their country. Some are buried in the British Cemetery at Bayeux.
these americans were brave to step in ohama beach when lots of them got ambush my granpa wrote a diary saying that ohama beach was crazy during this war he wrote that 56,000 americans died in this day he said it took a lot of americans 2 get path this im never gunna get rid of the diary its memories about him and his good friends that died RIP every soilder that died

Any way when I watched this vid my eyes were tearful :'( and I thinked ...... many good guys lost died for their home and for us ! te problem is that people dont respect these heroes they are forgotten well not many ppl forget them I remember all the soldiers I give them alot respect to both sides ! REST IN PEACE GUYS :,(
Man poor allied soldiers ! many lives lost in the world war ! And my another half says poor axis ! cuz they were humans to good people ! they were just under a stupid control (Adolf) MANY RESPECT SOLDIERS ! REST IN PEACE ! WE SHOULD REMEMBER THESE SOLDIERS !
It was a very powerful reminder of the heavy price that was paid for our freedom.
The whole time I was there, I felt like I was walking on hallowed ground. I could almost feel the spirits. May all of those souls rest in peace knowing they made a difference.
When I was there in 2007 I saw nothing but respect and emotion. I will never forget my first sight of all those crosses....If there are people spitting on the crosses it will be a minority of ignorant morons that unfortunately exist in every society.
That is very sad to think that they never did get to go home. But on the other hand, just by being there, they remind all of us who visit of the high price they paid for our freedom.
Perhaps that is their legacy. They are honored and they earned it. May they rest in peace.

In Stuttgart alone, troops under Eisenhower's command raped more women in one week than troops under German command raped in all of France for four entire years. In fact, of all the major belligerents in World War II, the German troops had by far the smallest record of rape and looting. The German army's incidence of rape in all of Germany's occupied territories was even lower than that of American troops stationed on American soil!
@mesmerizeme Germans were the most educated and diciplined of all the soldiers. They weren't savages, they had respect for others, and i'm not talking about the SS,i'm talking about the avarage wehrmacht soldiers.

Yesterday I went to an american cemetery close to Paris. There was a small chapel and a guest book. I felt sorry for this. As a frenchman I am really grateful for what american did for us and for the world. We should always trie to follow the correct path for liberty, peace, freedom, justice in the world & for all.
@maya06227 What I find shameful about you and many in your generation is you're all ignorant. You have failed to recognize the end result of what these men fought for. You. You stuck up people sitting in your chairs watching TV, working a harmless job, while there are wars going on right now. Those mass graves are saddening. It reminds us of the imperfect quality of humans. And you don't give a shit about anyone of those families losing lives, and judge others on nationality. I pity you.
I join Kakashi8544 in his tribute to the liberators of western Europe. "Omaha Beach" means a lot to many French, who don't even know where Omaha state is.
Yet we must also remember that these boys, like ours, paid with their blood for the previous blunders of our politicians - French, British and US.
By the way, there isn't any "Omaha state", just an Omaha city in Nebraska (where is Nebraska??).
Oui, les Canadiens aussi - we know them well, from Vimy ridge to the 1944 Liberation battles. At least, their politicians cannot be blamed for letting Hitler gain power: The crucial decisions were made in London and Washington.
The "crucial decisions" were made in Rome Moscow, London, Tokyo and Berlin. None were made in Washington. In fact, Roosevelt wrote several letters discouraging Hitler on a war. America, being very isolationist, didnot take any part in starting the war. Plus, Canadas politics were under the UK, so you can't really blame anything on them.
Spit on that offer?! You ridiculous rat! I owe everything to those men!! They have all my respect!! What I criticize is that the ignorants who put them at risk without any need whatsoever (the war in Iraq)! My statements were made regarding the war in Iraq not WWII. If you want to be an idiot at least how to read first.
Then respect them by spouting your propaganda elsewhere! Not on this little tribute here. This video & the sacrifices of these men have nothing to do with the Iraq War.
