  • Where can i buy the lighting kit?

  • Do you think the "Follow Focus Finder F3 15mm Rod Support for DSLR Camera with Gear Belt Canon 60D" (search on ebay) is a good option for a follow focus? Id really like to have hard stops, but dont want to compromise quality

  • MATT! PLEASE ANSWER!.... ok, so what are you're thoughts

on the Canon EOS Rebel T3 D-SLR Camera? Because I'm thinking on getting it.

  • Why is the canon 60D better than the 7D for videos? :) I've got a 60D :DDDD

  • @sierkkanis swivel screen. the ISO capabilities r basically the same, u get the same ISO options, same color options, basically the same everything. i have the 60d too, and ive also used the 7d a lot. i definitely prefer the 60d :)

  • @larybobjoeguy But why doesn't the 7D has a swivel screen?

  • @sierkkanis DSLR's are primarily picture cameras, and all ways will be and you dont really use the screen in photography (at least, most people dont. I do.

The 60D was, in a way, experimental to see how people responded to the screen. They needed an successor to the 50d, so on the 60d they kinda went "why not." it wasn't advertised as much as the more popular 7d, but when dslr video became came popular it started to be a +. since then, they made the t3i, a successor to the t2i, with a swivel.

  • Very helpful! Which microphone do you recommend using on the Tascam DR 05? I will be shooting video with a point and shoot and recording audio separately as the audio on my Canon IS780 is quite terrible. Thank you!

  • This may be a pretty stupid question, but, you can use optical zoom while in video mode on the 600D (not 60D) right? (Clearly I'm a massive newb).

  • @aussienerds optical zoom is inside the lens. So if you have a zoom lens then yes you can use it's optical zoom in video mode.

  • 50mm 1.8? Why not the 1.4?

  • @JacobTheDrummar Could be because it's way more expensive :P

  • Whats your guess on the state of video cams with changable lens. Is the new vg 20 style going to change dslr success? thx jss

  • umbrella towl toul dont know how to spell they form a great table slider

  • @MattsMacintosh

Does the 60D and 600D have much of an difference in video mode. I'm about to buy 600D mainly for video, but i just want to know before buying anything should i spend that extra money for 60D or 600D and better lenses?

  • Hey i got a canon 550d and i'm very new in photographing and video making. i am a german student so i cannot afford these expensive things. can u recommend a fisheye attachment, a slider and a microphone for me ? i think the one you use from rode is very cheap for good quality so i think im fine with it.

also i want to ask how i can tune up my video quality whem i'm inside buildings with no real sunlight. it's always pixelated. do i need these work lights ? and how much of them ?

  • what do you think about canon eos 550d

  • Rich guy there...

  • Which Nikon cammer did you have/use before you switched to Cannon?

  • I like the t2i, it's still very good

  • GREAT REVIEW. For making videos, what CF or SD card do you prefer?

  • Did you shoot this with the T2i?

  • Are canon 60d it's better than 7d?

  • @3dmaniackpl No, the 7D is way better.

  • Now you can switch back to nikon cuz the new nikon got a headphone jack :P

  • wow that 24-70 is pretty huge lens compared to the canon 60D xD

  • I use a Canon Vixia HF R100, stock everything, best 300 dollars I ever spent. I am more into video than photos

  • i got the whole set up =)

  • I have a choice to get a t3i or a t2i. Thats my budget right now. Are the enhancements that worth it on the t3i? Ill be mainly using my camera for video

  • @Nikali3990 Absolutely go with the T3i if you can afford it. Movable LCD, audio control, and digital zoom while in video mode.

  • @MattsMacintosh I also have to choose between the t2i and t3i. Sadly i'm 14 and do not a ridiculous amount of cash (already took me 2 years to ave up for a macbook pro). I would mostly use it for still shots of my energetic niece and nephew. Anything would be an upgrade over my current awful Insignia NS-DV111080F but which camera do you recommend?

  • Except for the swivel screen, are there any improvements in terms of shooting video on the 60d over the 550d?

  • @AJedProduction Manual audio controls.

  • @MattsMacintosh well I haven't actually digged much about it, but doesn't a 3rd party firmware update on 550D alows the same audio controls?

  • @AJedProduction Better autofocus system too.

  • Is the cannon T3i good? I just got one :)

  • @rmordica The 60D is actually a better choice than the 7D for video (and has the same sensor). It also offers a lot of improvements over the T2i in that realm as well.

  • Why would you go from a t2i to a 60D? I mean, yeah there are some minor differences but overall, you're working with a lot of the same drawbacks compared to higher end DSLR's (5D, 7D).

  • I love the videomic, I have it myself.

  • im 12 and ive started in filming i have a canon eos 600d or now as rebel t3i and im just woundering were to buy that indi slider

  • A tip to make the slide more smooth is so use a rubberband to drag it. like this tripod trick by Brusspup ;)

  • What are the lights you use?

  • What lens was on the camera in the beginning?

  • Hey i have a canon 7d and am experimenting with the video. do i need a special cord so i dont have to sync the audio. can you just use a 3.5mm jack or is there a special cord thats meant for audio.

  • You say you at one time switched from Nikon to Canon? I dont blame you at all, I switched away from Nikon recentally too, but not to Canon. I bought a Sony Alpha. For the price of the Canon camera itself, you sure are not getting much. And than when you finally get it you have to put more money in it to make it sutible for cinematography. Such as you try to make a digital viewfinder and than when ever you want yor normal LCD you have to take that thing off and on. Nothing against Canon just the$

  • I practically have all the same gear as you! A 60d, rode videomic, and the zacuto view finder, one question though...When ever i use the rode videomic, there is ALOT of hiss, how do you fix your AGC? Because i cant seem to find any way....

  • @ Hi Matt, I was wandering if you could post a blog perhaps with all your equipment (i.e. Lenses, JAG35 etc) I do realize that you've made videos talking about your equipment but a blog or comment with the links and what not would be very appreciative. Keep up the good work :)

  • I know that Canons don't have XLR inputs, if I use a connector that allows me to convert the XLR to be inserted into the MIC input, would that work? It is just so I can use a Boom mic, it could get around the whole, recording external sound too which is a pain.

    Thanks, regards Josh!

  • the 60d and t2i have the same film quality so why get the 60d?

  • I love photography :)

  • @Hrvojehc Me too.

  • @MattsMacintosh Can you make tutorials for old photo-cameras. I have one and I would like to learn how to use it xD

  • @MattsMacintosh what does this cost all together? im starting an animated series called sticky & me

    thanks

    snow

  • @snowbloxia that 24-70 lens is over $1000...the 60d is a bit over a $1000 also and the rode videomic is $150...that 50mm 1.8 prime is about $100...

  • @MattsMacintosh Me three and four and five and six and seven and eight and nine and ten and so on

  • I use the snowball as well! But everyone doesn't think it is a *real* microphone (because it doesn't look it) but the audio quality it puts out is amazing!

  • Hey, im looking a Canon lens. Like 24 - 120mm something like that, what would you recommend?

  • hello,im looking to get into filming/photography im 11 years old any tips on getting started?

  • @moneymikemoore Read as much as you can and practice, practice, practice! The more you shoot the better you'll get. Don't worry too much about equipment right now, focus on technique.

  • Do you recommend the IndiSlider? I am on a tight budget.

  • @Technoguy3 You can't beat it on price. As usually, though, you get what you pay for. It gets the job done, but not nearly as well as the higher end sliders. I use it in a ton of my videos if you want to see how it looks.

  • I have an ACOG scope on my T2I ;D

  • Can you give me any links to buying your equipment and/or prices, I'm looking to get started and invest in a 550d or a 60d. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks :)

  • @wilson883 i would check out the 600d.its more or less the same camera as the 550d,but whit the flippy swiwely screen of the 60d.image qualety is also the same as the 60d...the onley drawback is that the build qualety is like a happy meal toy,and it has a smaller viewfinder then the 60d (wich dosent realy mather if youre onley using it for video . and it dosent have a top info LCD and onley 1 command dail (if you are a starter and dont cear for things like aperture and shutter speed then its ok

  • I am in the market for a voice over mic right now and it seems from this video that the blue snowball is a decent little mic for it's price. Would you recommend it and does it work fine with osx?

  • wats the full name of the external mic?

  • Not going to lie that quick take 150 is pretty nice

  • Matt, I am thinking of starting going in the direction of film and photography for a hobby. maybe like filming stuff at the skatepark or just film in general. i have 2 questions,

1: how much did all of that camera and all of its attachments cost?

2: which camera and whit attachments should i start of with?

  • you make me feel so poor

  • How Muchh Was The 24-70 mm Lens ?

  • yay, im getting the rode videomic c:

  • Hi, I have the same Rode mic, but I get lots of background static and noise. How do I have good sound like yours?

  • hey Matt, I say the slider that you were using other things as legs for it, indisystems has on their site where you can buy the legs with allen wrench and nuts for 15$, just an option!

  • hey how do you check your audio???

  • Do you use external audio such as Zoom H4N or camera audio? Gain an issue?

  • Like you, I use a Rode videomic. It gives truly great sound -when its not broken! I Now I always seem to be replacing those silly rubber rings (they make a noticeable "squeaking" noise on my sound-tracks) -and the little attachment spigots on the mount's "core-spindle" have started snapping off! What a reflection on Rode's design/build quality. Should I pay a bit more and get a better built mic (from a competitor) that won't let me down next time?

  • Where did you get the Camera lens hood from?

  • @rubberdingirapidz Lens hoods and bags come with any L-series lens such as the 24-70mm that was shown in this video

  • well equipped professional , sadly his videos does not get a lot of views

  • what is the name of your fish eye?

  • HAHA nice I have the exact same setup down to the lens types, video mic and snowball, I just use Sony instead of Canon. And I use ghetto desklamps instead of professional lighting :S

  • if im using 3.5mm to xlr converter .m i lossing audio quality >????

  • Røde is danish and means "red" lol :b But its also the best of the best!

  • whats the fisheye attachment you have? and do you use it with the 50mm? or your other lens

  • Is the slider the mini or pro

  • Is that the Z-Finder? I didn't realize you could use that on a 60D. How does it sit on a flip-out screen? Any issues of it being loose etc. when filming?

    Thanks.

  • What setting's do you usually use on the rode because i keep getting this fizz noise in the background and on your video's when using the rode i noticed there's no fizz at all

  • Hey, what is the name of the fish eye attachment? I need to get one! haha

  • Hey Bro, I just made the leap from the T2i to the 60D... I'm really excited. It's no fun owning a Canon in my Nikon world.

  • Is that fisheye attatchment for the 50mm lens? If so where could I pick one up? Thanks!

  • matt im a begginer with the canon 60D and i need help to configure the sound i have the rode mic, and wich iso u recomend ?

  • I loove that slider! ;D

  • those lenses cost 1,300 24-75 canon

  • @maxblanke91 it's a indi slider look it up on google.

  • hey did you make the camera track or can you buy them , im buying the 60d this week

  • I am in the market for a new camera for videos, and I am choosing between the Canon 7d or the Sony NEX VG 10. I am leaning towards the Canon, but I would need to buy external mics etc. Also, I am thinking that the Sony has the advantage of a video viewfinder, better internal mic, and better form factor, although one disadvantage of both is the lack of manual gain control.

  • Any reason why you use the snowball over the yeti?

  • @ScottMAC57 I just happened to buy the Snowball when I first started making video and never upgraded.

  • how much are the umbrella lights?

  • @MattsMacintosh Is there a difference in sound quality between the Blue Snowball and Blue Yeti or Yeti Pro?

  • What is a good edit program for the vids taken with the canon 60D? I tought Cyberlink PowerDirector...

  • het, i own a t2i, why did you upgrade to a 60D? i would love to know, so that maybe it will make me want a 60D?

  • @TheWordMC 60d has swivel lcd of course, has a strong body, manual audio levels, better battery (1000 pics), top lcd, 5.3 fps on stills, better auto focus (all 9 points are cross-type), more ISO values and wireless flash.

For $100-$200 more, this features worth for me.

  • HI, I am shooting a documentary with my Canon 550 D (or T2i) and I need to record interviews. What kind of MIC should I get for this? I would ideally like to use a cordless lapel mic.

    Thanks

  • Hmm, those are really nice cameras, how much do you think that all costed?

  • Hmm Nikon's new D5100 has a Mic-In too. I film with it and i never would give my camera away ;) - Maybe i upload a Video of my technical Equipment ;) - Much greetings from Germany :)

  • Hello Matt,

I have a question, I play Acoustic Guitar and I'm thinking of buying an HDSLR to help me (as one of its points) in shooting Videos so what sound configuration do you think gonna work the best I mean Can this Rode Mic or any other external Mic provide good sound for Music being recorded in a Video?

  • Hey Matt! I'm planning to focus more to make Short films, outdoors and indoors, should I get a shotgun mic like the Rode Video Mic with a Deadcat.. or should I get a Lavalier mic like a Zoom H1 with a Redhead?

  • @JamesDaFreak I think the H1 would be a lot better if you are shooting short film style videos.

  • @MattsMacintosh why is the H1 better? I though Shotgun is more use in making films?

  • @MattsMacintosh what camera do you recommend the T2I or the 60D first o witch is cheaper and is the t2i good for Norma SHooting videos

  • @JamesDaFreak id get this setup, canon 600d, zoom h1, rode videomic, 50mm lens, 18-55, monopod/tripod, extra batteries, viewfinder. youll look pro if you also have a separate person doing audio with good headphones and a boom mic. all this under 2000$

  • @hitthedeckstudios well, i'm using 60d, 50 f/1.8 and 18-200 f3.5-5.6 using a Rode VideoMicPro with DeadCatVMP now. planning to get a Zoom H4n, boompole, and a video tripod, planning to get a viewfinder to. thanks for the piece of advice :P still trying to make short films, wanna be a Movie Director and own my own Pictures company, still 13. long way to go :)

  • @JamesDaFreak king of same here, im 13 and one day want to run my own company of stuntmen, photographers, videographers, and fx/vfx movie experts. i plan on buying the 600d soon after trying it out and falling in love with it. im aslo getting a rode videomic and blue yeti mic. also other accesories like monopod and viewfinder. my budget is under 1500$. hope you go far in the video industry, one day i may be working for you!!!!

  • @hitthedeckstudios HAHAHA, we will both work in partners :D awesome! 600d is pretty sick! my friend has one! and he said, it is just pretty amazing!

  • @MattsMacintosh what zakuto model do you use for you're 60D

  • can you recommend a cheap fisheye and a lens kit for a 60d. i may buy a Canon EOS 60D 18-55mm. if i buy that will the fisheye attachment (that you have) fit it? because i film skateboarding and the fisheye makes it better, but i don't want to spend like 800 dollars on a single fisheye. i don't have that money. please, answer.

  • @PetrooliTV I'd recommend just a cheap fisheye attachment. I use one from Opteka that works well. Just do a search on Amazon and you'll see several options.

  • @MattsMacintosh but does it fit at the 60D 18-55mm? and i'll make some research, thanks!

  • @PetrooliTV Depends on which one you buy. Most come with 52-58mm thread adapters, so odds are it will fit.

  • A very nice and cool camera gear! cheers mate!

  • how is the difference between the rode videomic (pro) and the rode ntg2? (in quality )

    thx .

  • U can get the new Rode Video Mic Pro it's tiny but it sounds GREAT

  • Matt, a fisheye attachment for your prime? Who makes it?

    Thanks.

  • @BuffoonCinema I use one from Opteka

  • Where can I get light kits? I haven't been able to ind them lately.

  • Does a view finder exist which i can use for my camcorder? Sorry for my bad english...

  • You should try a 0.95 lens

  • @keaper If you mean 0.95 aperture, they're really freaking expensive! About 16.000+ USD for the Leica Noctilux.

  • @icecubemovies

I have one it cost me around $900 USD ,Voigtlander 25mm F0.95 Micro Four Thirds lens...Its the best!

see my channel for a preview

  • You never mentioned the brand of your umbrella style light kits. What are they if you don't mind me asking?

  • I like how you reply to questions when this video is months ago!

  • @kiirshio I try! I don't get to answer them all, but I really like to help out when I can.

  • I'm looking at getting a DSLR for video but am not sure if the 18-55mm kit lens is any good. I want to be able to zoom a little bit but still be able to achieve relatively shallow depths of field. Any suggestions?

  • @zackademics If you check out my channel page I just put up a video a couple days ago with some lens recommendations.

  • @MattsMacintosh Awesome.. I just watched it. My main dilemma is whether to get the kit lens.. or get just the body and get the 50mm 1.8 for 119.99. I'm just starting out and I think the kit would be fine for me right now as it does a little of everything. 50mm will be my next purchase though after a stabilizer. I noticed you got the 60D.. You think the T3I is a good alternative for a little less?

  • @zackademics Yeah, the T3i is an awesome camera. I just got to handle one for the first time this weekend and it seems like a great mix between the T2i and 60D.

  • Whats the specific name of ur tripod?

  • Are you happy with the AF mode whenf You FILM? Is it good? No blur?

  • is there a blue snowball mic here on philippines.. ?? :D

  • great video thanks, I was going to ask about the gorillapod in the background, it looks like the SLR model, I was thinking of getting one is it worth it do you find yourself using it with the 60d. thanks

  • Subbed

  • Hey what fisheye is that?

  • nikon does have mic inputs what you talken about?

  • @ashtonwentworth1 When I made this video no consumer level Nikon DSLR had a mic input.

  • @MattsMacintosh RØDE is a danish word for red

  • Canon Forever!

  • Also, is shooting at higher shutter speed better?

  • Is it worth the extra money over the T2i? What fisheye do you have

  • Hey Matt I have a question: the eos 60d comes with one of these 2 lenses: 18-135mm or 18-200mm, which is 170$ more expensive. is the 200mm worth the extra price? is the difference minimal or huge? also keep in mind that i will use this for video mainly, than photography. thanks for youe advice!

  • can you give a link to the rode mic?

    thanks!

  • @ERAN1243 lmgtfy . com/ ?q=rode

  • 1 question. Do I really need lenses if I get that camera to shoot action films etc? I mean are they of big difference?

  • @SuperAzproductions I would say you can start with the kit lens to get the hang of the camera, but lenses make a HUGE difference in terms of quality and flexibility.

  • @MattsMacintosh If I get the eos 60d with the lens kit, and the rode shotgun, will I have cinema like quality? Are the lenses in the kit good enough for not buying others? And can you explain what the lenses in the kit pack actually do? thanks matt. Thanks for replying.

  • @SuperAzproductions Well, with any lens on it you'll be able to record great HD footage. "Cinema quality" is not just the raw footage, but also good post production. The kit lens for the 60D is usually the 18-135mm, but I think you can get it with the 18-55 as well. As for what they do-- the lens is what makes capturing a usable image possible; the camera won't work without one. It sounds like you should do some basic DSLR research before you make a purchase.

  • @MattsMacintosh So, if I buy the body only, I won't be able to record video or take pictures? So If I buy it I must buy it with the lenses? and what is the difference between 18-135mm and 18-55. is the 18-135 widescreen? Thanks again!

  • @SuperAzproductions Yes, you will need at least one lens. The 18-135mm refers to the focal length, it has nothing to do with wide screen (aspect ratio). I recommend you do A LOT more research about basic photography before you spend this much on a camera. Maybe start with something a little more simple like a Flip HD. I wouldn't get an SLR for video until you understand things like focal ratio, ISO, exposure, focal length, etc...

  • @MattsMacintosh Well, I don't paln to use it for photography, I mainly want to shoot video. I want a camera that will be of the best, so that I won't need to change my camera again. Maybe I'll try research for those but I am pretty sure I will go with that camera. Thanks for your help man! I subscribed!

  • @SuperAzproductions No problem. Thanks for the sub!

  • Wath your day Job?

  • What is the Umbrella kit you have? Does it have a yellow or orange glow at all when you are recording? Do you find that it is not bright enough, or does it work well?

    -Thank you

  • @Coryewing1 You have to get the right bulbs (high watts) to get rid of the yellowish light. You could also adjust the white balance on the camera. I actually "warm" all my colors in post, so a little yellow/orange tint doesn't bother me.

  • I own the 60d and Rode Stereo Videomic. Since I have similar set up, I have a question about how are you dealing with the hum and buzz sound with the videomic.

are you using any other equipment to reduce the hum and buzz?

  • @clamusic89 I do tweak the audio a little in post, but not much. I do use a shielded cable to bring the mic closer to me (I don't use it on the shoe mount). I think that helps.
