  • Also, Scott is not transferring his weight from the back side to the front. At point of contact he is leaning back and not utilizing his whole body.

  • A-Rods swing is actually on a downward plane until contact is met with the ball. When contact is made, he extends keeping the bat on the ball as long as possible for the most power. It looks like the other guy has a little but of an uppercut.

  • well the point is every good hitter won't be carbon copies but they'll all have a certain amount of "common denominators" not all good hitters will wiggle their bat around like ken griffey or have a wide stance like pujols; but they'll all get their foot down early, keep their hands back, keep their hands inside the ball, etc. basically there are always certain points in every good hitters swing that will be pretty similar to each other.

  • their swing are totally different alex hands are higher i dont get the point of this

  • His follow through is terrible....makes him very slow coming out of the box because he gets out of alignment which causes him to take even more time to get back into alignment and into a running stance......sorry but you suck cause it took me 1:35 to figure out his whole swing is ruined by his follow through

  • AROD = STEROIDS

  • not the same

  • Naturally, when I hit I come up and lean backwards as does your hitter Scott but my hitting coach wanted me to follow through with the back shoulder coming through the ball. It's like a punch, you would never get tall and lean back when your knuckles meet the person, you want to follow through it with all your body... Don't you think Scott would get more power if he stayed following through the ball at the POC rather than lift up and lean backwards?

  • terrible comparison mate, get a clue would ya

  • terrible comparison mate, get a clue would ya

  • i know arod is just going with the pitch so its not a bad swing but i really dont like arods swing he is just just strong! the kid has a sweet swing that i think is better than arods. what bat is the kid using?

  • i think it looks like two different swing too but this guy has great mechanics nice square frame hips turn with shoulders eyes on ball bat head held in to the last min. then gets shot out perfect weight shift and great contact on the ball with bat in front of his body and great extension after the swing

  • ecow280... you are an idiot

  • FUCK YOU!

  • Interesting, i am a bit confused, are you trying to replicate his swing on purpose or do you naturally hit that way? If your just trying to swing like him I would take time to make minor changes so you may find a breakthrough.

  • @BucketofThrowup this is actually one of my students who is now playing college baseball. This is his actual swing, the funny thing is, all good hitters do the same things at the major points in the swing.

  • those swings are completely different first off. second arod gets away with movement forward first because hes strong enough you cant compare yourself to pros they are bigger faster and stronger and were no where close to them

  • @ecow280 hitting is hitting, whether you are 6'4'' and 230 or 5'8'' 185...I can throw up a video of David Eckstein vs. Albert Pujols and then would love to listen to you tell me you can't swing like them because they are so big and strong.

  • @wibaseballacademy actuallly your point is invalid, if you look at gary shefield he lifted his back foot when he hit homeruns, if i did that i would never hit...his bat is so quick that he didnt need to keep his weight back, now the swing comparing this kid to arod he keeps his weight further back...but his swing is hugely different from a rods good swing

  • @wibaseballacademy

Can you explain to me why you tell people the body is movement when anybody in the field of human kinetics will tell you the mind is responsible for movement and the body is just the symptom?

If the body isn't moving rights..the mind is not in the proper state to hit.

  • @ecow280 he pick one of arods worst swings, he usally does not get his weight forward.

  • @ecow280

Movement forward can mean anything. Second, one's body does not say anything about their swing.

  • this is an old arod video. he changed his swing now a bit. his legs are not that far apart anymore i think.

  • okay number 1!!!! look at his front foot!!! it is so open that if he missed he would get cup checked! now look at a-Rod front foot closed and used as a steady brace

  • @counter6strike You need to understand that the pitch Scott hit was on the inside corner which means he has to open the hips fully to drive that ball off the wall. The pitch Arod swings at is on the outside corner which he leaves the front hip closed longer to drive it to right field

  • ? These are two different swings on two different pitches. I understand that certain points on a swing should be consistent, but maybe a different video would provide better analysis. Scott is pulling the ball, evidenced by clearing his hips, generating bat speed, strong upper body finish, leaning back at the end of his swing. Rodriguez is going with the pitch or shooting it up the middle, evidenced by his 'handsy' swing, rolling his top hand over, weight is way forward, etc.

  • @Soupy1616 Agreed, but we're not looking at how to drive a ball to right or left field, rather, how to keep the weight transfering forward while keeping the hands back on an offspeed pitch, very knowledgable response thanks for the post!

  • and the stuff ur comparing to A-rod and Albert Puhols are all the exact same things a baseball player ages 15+ always have so there really is no comparison.

  • When you teach someone how to do something, it is a lot easier to teach them the right way, as opposed to teaching them to do it a way that works for now, but won't work when they progress. When they do mature, then you must break the old teaching technique in order to instill proper mechanics. Ask any professional hitter, and they learned the basic mechanics of hitting when they were young, and these skills then progressed with maturity, instead of learning new things as they aged.

  • P.S.- I am showing many of the same things in both the Pujols and Arod video because that is what good hitters do every single time. It's ALWAYS the same.

  • ok i aint tryin to be negative or anything but if ur comparing the 2 swings they are really not that similar...A-rods hands are a lot more loose and ready to go rather Scotts are tight, A-rods bat is at a 70 degree angle rather than Scotts which is a 90 which means A-rod will get more bat speed..also i know A-rod is a major league phenom but he puts 100 times more power because he pushes off his back foot,

  • In response to this paragraph...Everyone starts a swing in different positions. The key to successful hitting is getting into the same position at certain points, i.e., load, toe touch, contact, etc...You are absolutly right, their swings are not a lot alike, but I am showing these certain positions that are identical, toe touch=weight 50/50 and hands back. I'm assuming you are from the "keep your weight back school" tell me, are either of them keeping their weight on their back foot?

  • At the time of this video he was 20, this was on his spring trip in college. We've been working since he was 14.

  • How old was scott when he hit this

  • how old is scott
