You people are completely missing the point. It's easy to make a highly tuned car. It's not easy to make it last. VW spend 5 million making the car for a reason. It's made to last 20 years + without having any problems what soever. It's an engineering magnificence. As top gear uk said, a concord moment. My brother has an 800hp supra and his friend a 900hp gtr. The maintainance is too overwhelming just to make it work. Gtr is speed and performance. Veyron is speed, performance, comfort, luxury.
I bet that GT-R is a dragstrip king. Meaning its insane power output makes it undrivable anywhere else. Probably tuned so that it could go fast on a dragstrip. Simple. You don't even need reliability, it's just going to do that a few seconds every now and then.
When this ultra-tuned GT-R is all used up and broken in a year or so the Veyron will still be as usable as it was when it was new. And it will be so in 10-20 years.
Btw,Bugatti saw 1400hp in development but settled for a reliable 1000hp
You're comparing some insanely tuned Nissan GT-R (a great car I admit, and pretty much the best bang for the buck today) with dragster slicks and using racecar fuel with a stock Veyron SS.
Now, how long do you think that GT-R will last in that tune? The Veyron was designed to take 1000+ hp for YEARS and to be driven daily. That's where its real strenght comes in. The Veyron gearbox was designed to be both refined,reliable, semi-auto and capable to take 1000+ for years

The highest speed rating for non-Bugatti tires is Y, which is 186 MPH. No manufacturer is going to put those tires on a car that will do 70MPH faster than the rating, even if they will handle it. It's just begging for a lawsuit if something happens.

Although the driver won't really care whether the tire is guaranteed for it or not, as if it fails at that speed, they're still dead.

Now all of a sudden you change the rules so that it's about handling and braking. (I love how import fans do that.) But, I guess maybe that's why people buy Veyrons. @cbiltcliffe First of all i did not state anything, that was someone else. A road car has to be able to go shopping, a track car has to brake, stop and roll whit you onboard. You may be able to build a very quick $1000 chevy from 60 grand, but all it will do is straight line. The thing about the GTR, the GT2RS and the veyron is that their power is usable every day and you can track them all day long, or take them to a drag strip and beat pretty much anything with a licence plate and road tires.

Veyron is pretty engineering, but it's absolutely inconvenient and unless you live somewhere with 50miles of absolute straight, you're never going to run it top speed.
When you run a Veyron SS at top speed of 415kmh, the tires will either blow out after 37 miles, or you will run out of gas within 15mins...

The same question was asked when the first stock road cars went to 100 km/h, 200 km/h or 300 km/h. The reason? Because they can. @tinleo333 Watch the video of the two. It is easy to see how much quicker the GTR gets going compared to the GT despite it's weight difference that would only affect the first 1/4. Not to mention the shift time difference. Longer gears? longer gears means very little if you can't pull the gear you have.

@tinleo333 That's a ridiculous argument. The people who have Bugattis _are_ rich and own Bugattis, and at least some of them will have a little head problem, too. So most of your conditions are self-selecting.
The highest speed rating for non-Bugatti tires is Y, which is 186 MPH. No manufacturer is going to put those tires on a car that will do 70MPH faster than the rating, even if they will handle it. It's just begging for a lawsuit if something happens.

@tinleo333 Y rating is 186MPH. (Y) rating is 186+ MPH, but there's no top end specified. The same thing happened for Z rated a few years back, which was why Y was introduced.
That doesn't mean (Y) rated tires will do 1000 MPH safely, it just means they're rated for more than 186. Whether that's 200, or 240 is left unsaid.
Although the driver won't really care whether the tire is guaranteed for it or not, as if it fails at that speed, they're still dead.

But you first claimed that 70k would buy you a 1000HP car (which it won't), so why would you spend 1.7 million. So I stated you could get a 1000HP car for $31k. Now all of a sudden you change the rules so that it's about handling and braking. (I love how import fans do that.) But, I guess maybe that's why people buy Veyrons. For a bunch of things besides the 1000HP.

@cbiltcliffe First of all i did not state anything, that was someone else. A road car has to be able to go shopping, a track car has to brake, stop and roll whit you onboard. You may be able to build a very quick $1000 chevy from 60 grand, but all it will do is straight line. The thing about the GTR, the GT2RS and the veyron is that their power is usable every day and you can track them all day long, or take them to a drag strip and beat pretty much anything with a licence plate and road tires.

Yes GT-R it's a best - but what a time life have engine, transmission, oil system - very few.

There are a lot of TUNED cars better than bugatti in a 1/4 mile. But Bugatti is not built for that. It's built to reach a speed over 400 km/h. If the VW engineers want to built a car to be the best in the world at 1/4 mile they can. If a sigle mand built that 2200 hp car they can do better. Veyron is pretty engineering, but it's absolutely inconvenient and unless you live somewhere with 50miles of absolute straight, you're never going to run it top speed.
When you run a Veyron SS at top speed of 415kmh, the tires will either blow out after 37 miles, or you will run out of gas within 15mins...

The same question was asked when the first stock road cars went to 100 km/h, 200 km/h or 300 km/h. The reason? Because they can. Thanks to Bugatti, the people have enough backed up information about the feeling of going at 400+ km/h with a stock road car so technologies can be improved. Note how other contenders did not have such detailed analysis.

the similarity is that both have aggressive, fast and yet smoothing shifting with no torque loss.
two of the car is high quality artistic engineering. the gtr will beat a bugatti in a track and drag race but not high speed.
GTR is a full track car for the cheapest ultimate car you can buy.

The GTR on the otherhand certainly behaves like a tuned vehicle. I love the tuned GTR, but the Veyron demonstrates a level of performance and engineering that is unrivalved on every verses video I've ever watched on Youtube .

@tinleo333 With another gear it would not reach 400km/h, it doesn't have the Aero for it. Ask AMS. They tapped out at 216mph (348) struggling to get any higher before the mile. And that was an Alpha 12 with just over 1000whp. Gearing isn't what gets a car to 260mph.

Not to mention the shift time difference. Longer gears? longer gears means very little if you can't pull the gear you have.
