  • some of these guys (the young folks) are seriously pretentious

  • This is great!

  • Romantic Warriors - A Progressive Music Saga - This is a preliminary Public TV Broadcast Schedule. Visit our site to find if a TV station in your area is airing it: progdocs.com and then select "Air Dates"

  • I think it's only a matter of time when the audience builds up to the point where Sony Music or Universal, etc. will start taking notice. Then what will happen after that? Let's hope for the best.

  • I started out thinking this documentary was going to be brilliant but, unfortunately, the artists kept on saying that music on the radio is either not good, not music or superficial. But that's not true. Music that is commercially successful is not intrinsically bad. What would these artists say if their albums suddenly shot to number one in the charts?

  • Why is Progressive jazz and Prog rock always lumped together ?

  • I dont know if anyone noticed in the beginning when the german dude was talking about working and working and reaching the final solution. Some wrong with that picture? lol all jokes aside these dudes are going for shit they know they wont make a lot of money with and they still do it.

  • @derekgiannone

A lot of bands do it for the pure love of music! One of my favorite bands is Kenso, e.g. the band is headed by a full time dentist. He has a comfortable life as a dentist and does the music on his spare time. All the members have full times jobs.

Its the love for the music not for the money. PR is about the only genre/sub genre where most bands don't have delusions of being #1 and making billions. They just wanna make albums. Albums that have the POWER to end wars and hunger :)

  • Most people who hate prog are probably hypocrites. Prog ultimately influenced countless music styles. Where would New Wave be without prog rock musicians pioneering synths and moog?

  • that guys description is how my band writes music

  • Must watch it,soon!

  • @TheProggirl Have you watched it already?

  • @progdocs not yet,thanks for the reminder! :-)

  • @TheProggirl Have you watched it already?

  • Prog-Metal and Prog-Rock aren't as different as red and blue. I personally enjoy both. You're all being like the people who hate Prog music, but even worse since it is a hate inside the very genre you love. Progessive music is progessive regardless of whether it is heavier and agressive or softer and mellow. Let's not forget that some prog-rock and prog-metal bands bridge the gap between the two. I'm not just some progressive music guy either. I love all styles of music.

  • Cabezas de Cera puts the name of mexico in a very high place!! iñoooor!!

  • Coheed and Cambria is the BEST prog band EVER!

  • Oh man, I absolutely adore Phideaux's work!

He's so intelligent for melodies and smooth keyboard lines!

    Phideaux we LOVE you!!!

  • Phideaux <3

  • chapmanstick.

  • I really feel for this genre being a huge fan since 1970. Sad that most people never got a clue and missed out on a whole magical world. Prog is for the adventurous mind. Unfortunately its' often rejected by even the jazz musician who are locked into a particular style or manner than Prog

  • @wigginsdesign

I think what's sadder than that is people who were around in the seventies, and liked it, but don't realize it's still going strong (if not, better) today!

  • @Mordain607 True, one of the main purposes of this film is to try to create some awareness of the ongoing contemporary progressive music scene among the baby boomers. Good news is that Romantic Warriors will be broadcast on US National (Public) TV in June 2011. We hope this nationwide effort touches some hearts (and brains) and help many people realize that the genre never died and that there out hundreds of young (and not so young) bands out there creating incredible music ! Thanks.

  • Yeah Prog Rock! I have always loved it. Take me to those warm and wonderful places..... :)

  • I hate the fact that prog rock has always been looked down upon n i dont see y. its complex sophisticated n all that stuff n most ppl hate it for tht but thats y i love it it show originality, creativity n musicianship like no other

  • @kfsfkakf: All music forms are looked down upon to some extent. Prog is no exception. Ethnic folk music is also made fun of. Irish music and dance is a perfect example. I'm Irish and our music has been made fun of for generations. It's just the way it is. Opera is hated by many people. Classical, early rock and roll, you name it. Way more people hated the Beatles than liked them in 1964. It's human nature to dislike things you don't understand.

  • @tomthefunky touche

  • Gary Green and Gentle Giant is where its at!

  • I only know what I like - and if I had to stick to one genre forever I would choose what is labeled "progressive".

    Good vid.

  • Can someone tell me the name of the song D.F.A. is playing at 7:15?

  • Hey, that was the trailer? It did it's job ... gonna check the DVD out.

Masterrese - I might not have pro advice, but practical. Someone said, "Don't make room for the gift; let the gift make room for you." If you love what you do, and you know many other people love it too, make a CD, DVD, whatever works, and self publish it: Amazon, iTunes, etc. In today's internet world, it's inexcusable to waste away at a prison (dead-end job) and not live the life. Develop the Talent!

  • What is the point? It was never that good with the exception of Magma who I just recently found out about 7 years ago.I'm almost 50.Heard most of it from that genre.Magma combined, soul, jazz, and classical into a mutation that can't be matched today IMO.The Krautrock band Can also sums it up for me along w. Electric Miles Davis.Bitches Brew etc.I guess when you run out of ideas musically and there is a younger audience that is unaware of free jazz, fusion, prog. rock etc..Why not rehash again.

  • 35 years ago? Try listening to something like Snakes and Arrows. No disrecpect but this is not Prog . Miles Davis? Awesome. Prog? No.

  • @tmgermann

prog metal isn't the same as prog rock....

  • @Ultrasonic240sx I'm buying a 240SX tommoro!!!! And yes prog rock is way better

  • @Ultrasonic240sx No, but prog metal is a derivative of prog rock. It's all connected :)

  • @Ultrasonic240sx I guess kids nowadays think they're the same, so metal is swallowing rock - the other day a kid told me he was studying classical guitar and "metal" guitar - they don't even know about blues and rock and roll and everybody sounds the same (I have to admit I'm prejudiced because I hate metal prog).

  • Aren't those bands with horns more like "fusion"? Seems like it.--more jazz rock than prog rock

  • @drummernezzy

Yeah, but a lot of people consider jazz rock quite related to prog - it certainly has similar goals and ideals, and a similar penchant for crazy solos!

  • this makes me so sad, I dont wanna end up like this, im a prog player, and I fucking hate working a day job and playing the local shit gigs. I understand its about music not money, but shit, i dont want my life to be writing what "I" think is genius music, and then playing to 15 people at a bbq as backround noise and then changing oil at jiffy lube till the next "big" show. whos got some pro advice

  • @Masterrese I feel the same exact way its really depressing its even hard to find musicians that can even play our music or appreciate it... especially in florida its just very sad. my band has a show at a festival next week and we got put as the first band to perform for an all day event and the headliners are probably some shitty band with some fucking kids that have no idea what they are doing.. i feel you man with the gigs hang in there..

  • @Masterrese couple ideas. You might consider starting or joining a touring band and getting a booker (there are many just search) I did and it was allot of fun but i love the road and hotels (also cruise ships but hard to get). Also, dunno about your mates in your present band but there are always bands looking for musicians, especially in NY, London, LA even FL etc. folks i know in touring bands make between 600 to 1k per wk, some much more plus food/lodging so u have some xtra dosh to spend

  • Wonderful!

  • ALBERTO, adamantium bones drummer!

  • Nice!

  • It is hard to make a living playing music now. Good job putting yourselves here on Youtube where word can get out that you do indeed, exist. It's fans like me that you need. Good old prog lovers like yourselves. I believe that you can promote yourself and sell your music online. We may not get rich at this, but you guys look better without BLING anyways. :D Huggzz

  • I'm 20 and its like the whole market for progressive music is just about to die out. We need real music.

  • @MrFigueroa007

people seem disinclined to actually listen to music now. It's a travesty.

  • I've seen Cabezas de Cera three times (Teatro de la Ciudad, CNA, Festival de las disqueras independientes). The experience was amazing, way beyond anything i've listen live.

  • I am sorry to say but the group of kids were right when they say high school is dominated by hip hop but, the kids were wrong when they said you wont hear this music on the radio or see it sold in stores. Every record store around us sells prog rock both known and underground prog at that. Great documentary....

  • @SephynnXx well i can find things like the "popular" prog bands like pink floyd, yes, Dream Theater, but anything more obscure than that is a lucky find for me, king crimson for one (have never been able to find an album anywhere.

  • @MichaelKnight71 You're kidding, right? I saw "In the Court of the Crimson King" at my local Best Buy.

If you want to know about more obscure prog bands, there's also Iluvatar, Vandergraaf Generator, Gentle Giant, and ELP.

  • @organs ROTFLMAO at ELP being obscure! They were the most commercially successful of them all!

  • @SephynnXx i took it as big box stores....they werent talking about record stores odviously. Target, Walmart, and others just dont carry the widest selection or support new artists
