  • im a guitar player.... i play guitar, and i think that music mans guitars ore ok... but i think that their basses are the best basses on earth... the bass player from my band plays an ernie ball/ music man and it sounds phenomenal

  • Eddie Wolfgang

  • the tonal secret is in the 36" scale length....nice job Ernie Ball!!

  • god that thing screams

  • Thats a cool pickup configuration with the switch. Could you do that with a Les Paul? If not, no worries, I am definitely getting one of these!

  • @iceman10129

You cant do it with a normal 3 way toggle. You could probably do something similar with push pulls or switches on a Les Paul. If you went with extra switches you would need to drill holes in Les Paul.

  • @iceman10129 Yes, with the seymour duncan triple shot mounting rings. I have them on my Les Paul.

  • For some reason I just didn't want to like this guitar...it sounds AMAZING.

  • I like the body. I don't like that color either, but they make lots of different colors, from plain black to sparkly orange. You can't knock these until you play one. They've won me over to the ebmm camp with this axe. It just plays too well.

  • Where can I get one? im looking for the one thats white with red pickguard

  • it sounds close to Steve Vai's tone isn't it?

    or maybe im crazy...

  • @Dragonflywins It's pretty close.

  • @PunkxLove94 Sorry about my english Im still learning

  • love that first riff...so beautiful...

  • The sound drop moving from the bridge humbucker to the setting where one coil of each humbucker is combined was troubling. I don't understand how nobody noticed that this can cause troubles at Music Man..

  • @Ningirsutyr One can minimise the volume drop, but you can not get rid of it unless you boost the volume in those positions. Just the way physics work...

  • Good to see Paul still reviewing for Guitar World - a damn fine player and reviewer.

  • Sweet axe. Like that riff at the end too.

  • excellent review. do you ever review acoustics?

  • @cruiser277777 yes they do, you sould search for the taylor baritone 8 string, awesome piece of gear :)

  • Sounds nice, but damn it's ugly!

  • @tenhundredkills Ugly it's a only subjective point of view, to me it's one of the coolest hip looking guitars I have ever seen I've always admired the fact that MusicMan are not afraid to be different.

  • @lipeguitars I respect your opinion, but there's no way I'd spend my money on a guitar that looks like that especially considering there are other guitars out there that (in my opinion) sound as good and look cooler.

  • I want one!!!!!!!!!:))))))

  • Beautiful guitar!

  • Fugly guitar!

  • ugly guitar!

  • im famous :)

  • I have 3 albert lee guitars, they are out of this world - the HH AL is my dream guitar.

  • good job Paul!

  • Great playin' ...and also great guitar!! I like it..it is so Cool..!!!

  • The gain just mushes out, you can hardly tell which pickup he's on. I'd like to hear those notch position sounds with a clean tone.

  • I think this guitar looks and sounds fantastic ( I like it in Black)......It has has the nicest neck of any guitar I've ever played.....great job again Music Man.

  • I like the looks, a 50's retro thing including the color. I think it needs single coils though, wrong sound for such a 50's looking guitar

  • Nice sounding guitar but not my cup of tea.

  • Mmmm Solid Rosewood Neck!

  • The pickups are the same DiMarzios as the ones in the Axis.

  • Damn that guitar sounds amazing, but looks awful...WHY DID THEY DO THIS

  • I would loved Paul to test it through a clean amp as well. But overall, its a great guitar! Well done Music Man!

  • GEEZUS! PAul is a shredder!

  • i actually kinda like the look; has a 1950s sci-fi look to it.

  • I have one...its superb!

  • \\m//

  • Marmite guitar. Some will love it, Others will hate it. No inbetween!

  • take out the pick guard and u actually got nice lookin guitar

  • thats basically a fucked up Fender with Gibson's pickups

  • Okay this guitar has a really really nice sound to it. Those pickups are great but the look of the guitar is ............. well they could have done a little better. And Albert Lee? I thought he was a single coil guy?

  • It seems to be an amazing guitar. I wish I could try it.

  • i love the shape and sound of this guitar

  • this guitar isn't ugly,It has its own beauty

  • @ptpetrov I'm sure that if some major artist(not saying albert lee wasnt one) like jack white played one, people would drool over it... albert lee's one of the best!

  • Maybe the shape wouldn't look so bad if it was in a different colour and with different pickguard. One of the creamiest and most fluid sounding guitar GW has reviewed yet.

  • 3:45 obviously with the switch all the way in the rear. sorry I laughed :-)

  • Sounds pearl jamish :) Very nice sounding guitar, if only it was a nicer shape

  • the best signature I've seen Paul review in a while besides that santana one a few days ago , a nice touch with the rosewood neck as I've never seen that before , the coiltaps and locking tuners are a must in todays music to help survive in the music industry.

but In brutal honesty I don't like Musicman 4x2 headstock and find this particular one ugly... but hey sounds great and I like my dark colors and would LOVE a locking nut to go along with the locking tuners.

  • @JYZProductions locking nut with locking tuners? Would make no difference to the tuning stability!

  • @PaulMeUnder we don't know till we try , I'd do it for the hell of it because it would be really easy to market and since its locked in two places to me it seems it would even though I haven't tried it.

  • holy fuck fatman!!

  • At last! A dude who doesn't start a review of a guitar playing blues riffs!!!

  • this thing need a floating floyd.

  • boy Paul, you sure can play a guitar just like ringing a bell. your aswome

  • this guitar should also be sound in clean

  • what is the little hole near the neck pickup? is the truss rod?

  • @3922378742 its the truss rod yeah ..

kinda wierd but some yamaha basses have it there to

  • @3922378742 yeah its for the trussrod, some companies do it like that to make it easier for guitarists to adjust the neck. I'd still rather it on the headstock or just say f*** it and go with a neckthrough for that added sustain.

  • @JYZProductions aah thanks ;)

  • what a stunning looking guitar... wow....

  • could that sound he plays with be farther away from albert lee?

  • this looks like a techno guitar it reminds me of the jetsons

  • reminds me of the 50's

  • Music Man headstocks are so weird lookinnnnnnnnnn

  • @ciadude2 That's what she said.

  • i dont know there something about the tone they use that i dont like

  • @crisDAwog The fact that it makes every guitar sound the same?

  • how bout the clean sound?

  • Loving that rosewood neck

  • i'd like to see a death metal band play these.

  • Good guitar but i prefer my jp7

  • Paul is fucking rad.

  • Love this guitar, color and all. Perfect neck profile and finish

  • marrogani

  • "the albert lee guitar is a signature series from albert lee" 'cmon, suck my dick

  • what's the song @ 4:19

  • @thereyougoantonio ITS CALLED CREATIVITY, LEARN IT BY EAR.

  • @thereyougoantonio sounds like that rod Stewart song

  • and how does it sound without distortion ?

  • sounds magical :).. but silhouette si my dream guitar :)

  • I think that guitar looks great I love the Retro style...

  • May be short on body and sustain in the lower ranges just a tad, but sounds good for the most part.

  • MusicMan handcrafted? That depends on your definition of handcrafted.

  • looks like an 80s guitar

  • Great play man!!!

  • Music Man has quite the endorsement team. I have a feeling they'll sign Marty Friedman if Heritage can't get him once his endorsement with PRS runs out

  • Great guitar! I actually like this design, it's definitely different but I think very cool. Double humbucker version sounds wicked, I actually prefer it over orginal 3x single coil.

  • This is the same guitar Dick Cheney uses in his YES tribute band.

  • Love that neck, but give me an HSS.

  • cmon, it doesn't look bad at all in my opinion.

sounded really good, music man is great.

  • Cool looking guitar. I wish is was shorter scale like a gibson or a jaguar.

I wish I would have heard some clean tones.

  • its a beast like every mm guitar. im a musicman lover and have few mm guitars. this was interesting but its really really ugly.. :)

  • Looks like the Quasimodo amongst fender strats, sounds like a tube screamer pedal

  • its just ugly, the color makes it uglier

  • music man never sounds ugly.

  • what happens with the guitars played on these reviews?

  • Looks like a 50s diner.

  • SHOW OFF MUCH...

  • Probably one of the most unsold guitars around. Lee pulls it off well, but people who don't play like him... then.. well.... it's just not right.

  • I think thats the first time Ive seen an all rosewood neck on an electric..

  • I wish, you would tell the type of amp you use in these demos...(and, the setting)

  • Paul please make a solo album. You rock dude!

  • It doesn't look ugly when Albert Lee plays it.

  • I played one of these at a guitar center. It sounder pretty good.

  • its like a fat chick, bad looking but sounds great to play with!

  • @constellchicken how does a fat chick play great?

  • @constellchicken it aint over till the fat lady solos xD

  • @metalhead9167 ba dom tish

  • @constellchicken looks great imho, too flambouyant for most unless they gotz the talent... even then they'd have to be albert or prince to still look cool ;)

  • @constellchicken ewwwwwwwwwwwww

  • @constellchicken Yup. With lots and lots of low end. ;)

  • @constellchicken idk, i think if u get it u will get used to and eventually love the look of it

  • @constellchicken exactly how does a fat chick sound good to play with? o.O

  • @vileguile4 I think he means they sound good when your playing with them. Thats my experience atleast.

  • looks ugly, sounds (for me) ugly

  • @tiuri95 it's just that Paul can't do a good review...

  • a deep nasally voice, it's gorgeous how the leads sing out

  • i like Paul, he's a nice guy...

  • Such an ugly looking guitar. Quality is top notch though.

  • forth!

  • very crisp, i like it

  • yay

  • This is ugly. Couldn't he find a worse paint job?
