If a person has ANY evidence of black ancestory, they will be accepted as black. Yet, to be characterized as white, you must exhibit NO "black" traits. Why is that?

I often wonder the same thing, so I guess the real question is: Why is the prevailing belief that African genes cancel out all others?

I think people judge race as they judge food. If a piece of bread has ANY mold on it, it is called moldy; just as if a person has ANY black blood they are called black. Yet, to be called white, you must be pure.

@lorenzbriggs Because "race" is a social construct. It needn't "make sense"...it simply needs to reflect the ideals of the people enforcing it.

The concept of race didn't begin until about 1776 with Johann Blumenbach. (Ironically, most people still follow his model, no matter how racist and nonsensical it is.) It's rules and confines have been changed over and over since its inception (even up to now), to benefit the economic interests of the group who created it and enforced it (Whites).

Africa is so diversed you won't believe, theire are tribes in Africa who are practically unmixed and they are about your complexion, but don't take my word for it- see it yourself! you'll be surprised. Black people with blue eyes (northwestern sub sahara region, comprising mali-niger etc) fairskinned people as yourself who have no european ancestry like the igbo people. In Africa you'll sort of identify yourself based on certain dominant features you come across

There have been great improvement in economic and social situations. some faster than others, like nigeria and Angola due to oil and stability etc. European govts just wanted cheap resources so they provoked unrest by selling drugs and guns. But China's interest in Africa sort of balanced it out so now Europe has less direct influence hence the stability. They still spread crap so most black people don't go to Africa, but you won't imagine how many whites are buying houses over there
