@Rifflehead - Thanks for that feedback; I suppose when you put it that way it does save a bit of my sanity. I actually kind of like the original though.... As George Thorogood put it, "All the good songs have already been written."
Yea, Great Composition! You are the original, man! But they topped you on that song. And I suppose it would have hurt even more if a lame Hip-hop artist had remixed it. I mean, with all due respect to you, and I hope you get your dues on the song, as a song composer, looking at the musicians who took it, you wouldn't really mind that they made it so popular, would you? And to be fair to LZ , they did their stuff on the song, and that stuff was truly theirs. Robert Johnson nicked Kokomo Arnold!
@hahabogus Mate, this is an old world! Most of it, if not all is recycled! I suppose you would have felt better if LZ had mentioned him at the time of the release of their first album. But, mate, the song would have been the same! Like, it doesn't matter who Shakespeare really was, and whether he really wrote all that! These are extraordinarily talented people. And, in this Genre of Music nobody can deny that LZ is one of the Greatest. Its always who played it best!
Page should certainly given credit. I'm puzzled why he didn't. Perhaps he didn't want to share in future royalties? BTW, If an artist uses another's song, changes the lyrics and makes moderate to major alterations leaving a product bearing little resemblance to the original, what is the proper acknowledgement? Will it forever remain, "written by XXX"? or perhaps, "adaptation of SongTitle, originally written by XXX"?
As much as I enjoyed Zepplin while growing up, the facts are that Page/Plant are two of the biggest thieves in modern music. Not only was this ripped off, but many of their early hits are copies of older Delta blues tunes. They never gave credit to the songs original creators. At least when Clapton used other musicians songs and had huge hits with them he acknowledged their true origins, and gave credit where it is due.
..... is dismissive in interviews to the point of lying whenever Holmes name is brought up. when asked about Holmes' version of D & C he replied "oh I don't know anything about that". c'mon Jimmy, man up!
@ Stewdogification - the thing with Jimmy Page stealing this song is he starting playing this song with the Yardbirds in late '67 - at that point Keith Relf sang the lyrics of Jake Holmes word for word. it was a slow metamorphosis until it became the Dazed & Confused we know from the first Zep album. saying that Jimmy Page re-worked the song from the ground up just isn't true. he covered the song and Holmes deserves the song writing credit on the Zep albums, because it's clearly his song. Page
People who say that Led Zeppelin stole this song are idiots. The melody and the lyrics are completely different. This version, although nice, doesn't have the violin bow sequence or the fast guitar solo. All that Zeppelin's version borrows from this song is the walking bass line and the title. Barely stealing in my book.
@Stewdogification So True! the lyrical phrasing, the actual name of the song, the breakdown for the strange part of the song, they are all sooooo different than how zeppelin did it. I mean there is a HUGE difference between blue and slightly darker blue. right?
(cont) way after the Yardbird's demise, a version called "I'm Confused". It mysteriously was the only song issued on its album without any songwriter credit.
The Yardbirds NEVER "recorded" this song. There is no and never has been any studio release of the Yardbirds playing "Dazed and Confused", unlike Led Zeppelin. There is a clip of the Yardbirds doing it here on YouTube from a TV show. It was played as a cover tune. Jake Holmes was given songwriter credit on an audio CD released in 2000 containing this TV performance. There also was another Yardbirds live performance captured/preserved (audio only) that was found and released
Awesome song, but f*ck this is full of Zepp haters, I mean, yeah they took lot of great stuff from others and did'nt credit them, but I think they did it as a remake, as a tribute for the ones that they admired.
Plus, if it weren't for zepp you would never have heard this, I like both versions, this one for being the original and for being creepyer, and zepp's one for plant's voice and being heavyer.
@ZoSoenformadefichas what other stuff? if there was no led zep, people would listen to "these" stuff because they were just popular and overshadow the rest..
but ive to admit..led zeps cover is a lot better!
Did Led Zep actually write *anything* original? Or did they just steal everything from Jake Holmes, Howlin' Wolf, Bert Jansch, Anne Bredon, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, and WHOOPS forgot to credit them.
all im seeing is hate hate hate, most of you would not be here if led zeppelin didnt "steal" this wonderful melody, scroll your ass up back to the song..
wow, jimmy page thats low, about the worst thing you can do in the music world is take somebodys song without creditation, or even a mention. how come jake holmes didnt sue the yardbirds, or led zeppelin for stealing his song.
Led Zepplin obviously had no qualms about ripping people off - just ask Willie Dixon. To suggest otherwise would be like saying Joe Cocker wrote "With A Little Help From My Friends". It makes me sick to think of any musician stealing from another musician!
@tomgamble54 speaking as a musician, i'm sorry to dissapoint you, but there's really no such thing as "original music". every musician has influences that they admire and try to emulate, ie riffs, melodies, chord structures, tones etc, so obviously there are slews of metal bands that sound like metallica, saxophone players sounding like coltrane, film composers who sound like hans zimmer, and so on. you can call it a ripoff or you can call it homage.
@wilky1189 speaking as a musician, i have to disagree - there's a big difference in being influenced by someone and stealing their melody - there is a legal definition that the courts use, however common sense would indicate an outright ripoff in this case - as i'm sure Page will find out once again.
@tomgamble54 well yeah, this is kind of blatantly stealing....i guess i was more adressing those videos that are like "OMG DOES TRIVIUM SOUND LIKE METALLICA?????"....
Конечно это кража, но тут очень хорошая аранжировка, эта песня постояно "Эволюционировала".
Самый злостный плагиат, когда воруют мелодию без изменений, а тут очень хорошая аранжировка, намного лучше оригинала. Так же как Child In Time, The Show Must Go On...
wow, this dude is a really talented singer, even sounds like plant, its amazing that so many artists were thinking in this vein back then - i love this "version" even though it's the original - ha
segovia used that desc line. palestrina probaly did too. desc lines are the backbone of a huge body of music. many of them are the same. holmes is a folky zep something else entirely. who played the electric for him?
@wblakesx Holme's song is VERY close to the Zep version. Melody and chord changes included. Even the intro is closely replicated and part of the middle section is related to this work as well. Page's version is clearly a reworking of this one.
Yeah he did deserve a cred for the concept. As far as that fruit chessinfantry goes you stfu.I'd kick your ass at chess or a parkin lot brawl! So piss off noob!
sorry to burst your bubble but they ripped songs off and claimed they were there own.that's a fuckin low thing to do.if bieber took a Hendrix song and it exploded all over the radio and tv would you condone that ?
of all the songs zepplelin stole ive always thought "they made the song beter" but this the only one where ican say the original is better...along with the songs they stole from willie dixon
Now I got it. Jimmy was the innocent dupe of those evil other members of the group who didn't let him on the fact that it wasn't their song. Therefore, no court will find him liable for plagiarism. As proven by the fact that you're pretty sure it was already in court. No, you're obviously the smart one here.
Now let's see if you smart enough to figure this out. If the case was filed June 2010, and there's been no further word in the media, wouldn't that mean the case is still pending and proceeding through the system? If it was dismissed or withdrawn, wouldn't it have been reported? No, the case is actually over and there's been a huge media conspiracy to keep this quiet, a conspiracy joined by every Led Zeppelin website in existence. What a moron.
Let's look at it like this. The Led Zeppelin song only has one riff barely in common, based off a song no one cared about. Now compare Mr. Page not having to pay royalties to Mr. Holmes to say... Vanilla Ice not having to pay royalties to Queen for shitting all over Under Pressure by changing ONE fucking note throughout the entire song.
@CrazyTrainisawesome Let's look at it like this. You're freaking deaf if you think the only thing in common is one riff, and you're freaking dumb because Vanilla Ice WAS made to pay royalties and give songwriter credit to Bowie and Queen, the same that's going to happen yet AGAIN to Page once Jake's case gets heard. LMFAO!
@SueMePlease Ladies and Gentlemen we have another 7 year old using the internet. Don't hurt his feelings though, he might get mad. Don't call me dumb considering I actually can play an instrument and can tell that this song has absolutely nothing in common except 1 bass riff and the title. If this man is in debt, don't blame Led Zeppelin for writing a good song with the same title, blame Jake Holmes for not being a good musician.
@CrazyTrainisawesome Your the one with hurt feelings, bud because your lack of knowledge about music, copyright law, and even Vanilla ice has been exposed and because your hero has been proven yet again to be a thief. Oh wait, wait, you can play an instrument! Now maybe if you could only read, lyrics as well as music, you'd be able to figure out how much of this song is stolen. Don't take my word for it though, you'll find out soon enough when Jimmy pays up and Jake gets a cowriter credit
@AFatGuyNamedPete Yes, because my absence of knowledge in this field is really apparent with my band's CD being released on all the major music distributional websites in all of America. Also, the case was proposed in June of 2010. I don't know if you know but it's currently October of 2011. If I don't know anything about music, then tell me how I managed to learn to play piano, bass, guitar, and drums, vocals, and taking all those talents to write my own music. Go ahead and be stubborn. Prick.
@CrazyTrainisawesome Congrats, you can read a calendar. You do know that's its usually two to three years from the time a suit is filed until a trial begins don't you? Can you figure out the math between the two dates you gave? If you know so much about music, why didn't you know Vanilla ice paid royalties? The next time you're sucking off Page, tell him you're the music expert and you want to tell his lawyers there's no case. You're going to be one surprised MFer when this is done.
@AFatGuyNamedPete I'm pretty sure they were already in court. Your just sad that you r idol isn't as popular as someone who is considered the greatest guitarist of all time. And he didn't pay royalties at first. and excuse me for not knowing about your shitty 90's rap performed by the whitest douche of all douches. Here. This should calm you down. Go listen to a real song (like something by Led Zeppelin, which has actually coherent music that isn't computer samples) and go get to know yourself.
@CrazyTrainisawesome Yeah that settles it, you're pretty sure it was in court. You're the expert LOL. I'll let you get the final word. For now at least, but I'll remember you when Jake gets royalties and his name as cowriter of the song.
@AFatGuyNamedPete Have you even listened to the Led Zeppelin version? Jimmy page didnt even know about the songs existence when he wrote it. When he played for the Yardbirds, he often had multiple riffs and stuff that were inspired from cover songs that he was told to try and learn, which he didn't know were cover songs and worked a song together around a riff he made, and titled it dazed and confused, not knowing that Jake Holmes wrote a song with the same title.
@CrazyTrainisawesome Jimmy Page wasn't aware of the songs existence? Is that why there's TWO videos on the right side of the screen showing him playing to song with the Yardbirds? LMAO!!
P.S. Jimmy's the one with the violin bow. Another idea he stole!
@AFatGuyNamedPete I know this. He said he just did what the guys told him to play, and thus developed riffs around them. And I don't think a technique is considered plagiarism. But you must be the smart one here. Dumbass.
@CrazyTrainisawesome I nearly fell out my chair laughing Led is my favorate band But how the hell can you rework a song without hearing the song your reworking???
@AFatGuyNamedPete sorry to burst your bubble but they ripped songs off and claimed they were there own.thats a fuckin low thing to do.if bieber took a hendrix song and it exploded all over the radio and tv would you condone that ?
@CrazyTrainisawesome Oh come on. Holmes isn't in debt! He's a highly successful songwriter (he's written more major advertising jingles than just about anyone else in the last 3-4 decades) and has made plenty of money, it's partially why he didn't worry about this blatant plagiarism for years.
Just the same title & bass line? Are you deaf or did you just not listen? Page's arrangement is CLEARLY a version of this same tune.
@mamacornettesmoney ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? I can tell a bass line from another. The Led Zeppelin version has 4 extra riffs, all of which have no relation to this song. The only lyric that is the same in each is the title lyric. None of you have even heard the Led Zeppelin version. So don't ask me if I have hearing disability. Stupid snobby pricks (or cunts, which ever you all prefer)
@CrazyTrainisawesome No one is saying holmes should get full credit. Just partial credit as Page's riffs are CLEARLY built upon this song. That's how it works.
@SueMePlease I'd be really surprised if they don't settle before going to court. Far less obvious cases than this have resulted in co-songwriter credits and royalty payments. This one is a slam dunk. They just have to let the lawyers negotiate and see what they can agree on. No way does a judge hear this case and say Holmes has no rights to this song. Best move for everyone will be to settle early.
All you need to admit that this song is shit. If it wasn't for Led Zeppelin, Jake Holmes would have faded into obscurity. I think they were justified to take it because they made it into a kick ass tune.
@CainmosniMirrored Though I realize it's a question of taste, I like this version more then Zeps. You assert that Jakes song is "shit", but it had to have had something special to it if Zep deemed it good enough to steal.
Harrison wrote the main verse to My Sweet Lord and it 'was similar' to the verse of he's so fine. No common lyrics, different instruments, quite a different song. But to lift the style (including the quiet hypnotic section), the semidown walkdown, AND the title...if Harrison lost for My Sweet Lord, Jimmy Page should have AT LEAST given this guy a credit. Sad actually. Still I love Zep, and Jimmy Page wrote some of the most amazing rock riffs of all time.
What is most damning, is that the Yardbirds, did this song live, with the same lyrics. Of course, the Yardbirds, had Jimmy Page in it, and they knew of Jake Holmes. Everyone admits that song, evolved into Zeppelins. Well, if that is the case, and we know that the Yardbirds song was this song, then there is no escape. Jimmy Page, took this man's song and really should pay the dude.
Pretty Heavy for 1967 and this influenced Jimmy Page so much as to copy it and try to take credit for it. Townsend claimed "I can see for miles" was heavy (which influenced McCartney to write Helter Skelter) which was recorded in 1967 as well.. I think this is heavier. I say Jake Holmes had a lot to do with the creation of Heavy Metal. Creation of Heavy Metal seems to be the product of acid trips lol.
I really think people are exagerating this but I wish I was related to Jimmy Page to tell him to Put the credits as (Page/Holmes)
Btw holmes said that this has a similar theme to the Zep song that isn't about acid trips(Although the riff in Zeppelins song is Most likely Acid Induced)
@kildare97 Um, everybody in Led Zeppelin didn't have the last name "Page". Robert PLANT was the singer, not Jimmy Page. Jimmy PAGE was the guitarist, not "Robert Pagge" (who the hell is "Robert Pagge" anyway??).
I love the Yardbirds, and Zeppelin but, there is no excuse for Page to "borrow" so many ideas. Give this man his royalties, and a writing credit. The imbecile that said it's about "individual" taste, has never had an original thought or idea.
I mean Zeppelins song shits all over this but still...
I used to think there was no similarity but my speakers are really bad so I wasn't able to hear it very now I have new speakers and the similarity is big
It's only natural to borrow from your musical influences as did the Stones, Elvis etc. I love Zep but they should have given credit to the proper author of this piece, it's just the right thing to do.
Alright guys, let's get this sorted. First off, I bet half of you wouldn't know about this version of the song if it wasn't for Jimmy Page so you can't say a word against him. But anyway, I agree that Jake Holmes should been given credit, but the two songs are very different. Anyway, to those who are saying Jimmy Page is unoriginal, fuck you. He wrote msterpieces such as Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker and Stairway To Heaven just name a few.
@Mr2010Jamie He was sued, & lost, for not giving credit on Whole Lotta Love, too. In fact, most of the riffs on the 1st 2 albums were lifted from other sources & he only gave credit on a couple of them until lawsuits forced him to share credit on others.
With that said, Page is an absolutely brilliant arranger & took existing tunes/riffs/progressions, etc and turned them into classic masterpiece. As his career went on, he wrote more original stuff (or lifted from more obscure sources).
@kildare97 No, that riff in Whole Lotta Love was directly lifted from an old blues number.
I'm not being uptight. i told you I have utmost respect for what Page did, but it WAS about money as Page was copywriiting stuff under his own name that he KNOWS he got from others. He most certainly was trying to maximize profit.
Yes, the Whole Lotta Love riff was a direct riff. he just put a lot more "umph" to it in the arrangement, but seiously, almost every rif on I & II are lifted.
@kildare97 If it wasn't about money, why did Page bother to copyright things taht he took from others? Why did he copyright traditional songs as original compositions? Why is he more protective of his copyrihts than any artist this side of Prince.
i LOVE Page and think he was a usical genius, but don't fool yourself & think he has the most integrity. He was defnitely using the laws to maximize profit & present things as his own when he was really rearranging stuff he learned as a session guy
@kildare97 That's fine, but I didn't say anything like that. I simply pointed out that from a legal standpoint, Page WAS taking material that others wrote & arranged, put his own stamp on it, & denied credit to the source material. The only thing that aggravates me on Page is that he acts indignant about others wanting credit, yet he's as Nazi about his copyrights as anyone. I still think he's great & brilliant. One of the true masters. I just wish he was more willing to give credit. Peace.
Mr. Holms should be proud of his song. It is sensational.I consider it many times better to that of Led Zeppelin because it's his original idea. All Page did was build on Holms idea and yet he still falls short of how Holmes performs it.If you read this Jake, sue them for all they've got. You deserve it.
Someone should smash Jimmy Page in the hands until the fucker can no longer play his sloppy, stealing guitar licks. Someone else should rip out Robert Plants vocal chords so the world can get spared of his awful screeching.
Led Zeppelin is the richest, most popular cover band in the history of rock and roll.
@TruthAxe dude chill your nips. i get that you obviously had nothing better to do and your life probably sucks so you choose to make others feel bad, but why do you have to be such an ass on your comments? just talk about how you like this version and you wont piss people off because now i sort of want to smash your fingers so you can post obnoxious ass comments of people who you're probably jealous of.
You amuse, @ledzepp247. Mere words have triggered you into anger. Look at you go! My words are the strings and you are my little marionette. I pull. You dance! HA HA HA
How sad for you that you've wrapped your identity around Led Zeppelin that you've named yourself after them. That means you're vacuous in mind.
What's it like being a huge fan of the world's most popular cover band fronted by hack musicians? HA HA HA
@TruthAxe well i do listen to other music so i guess that point is irrelevant and im not really to angry led zeppelin isn't for everyone just don't like haters i enjoy music much more.
also it feels pretty good. jimmy page is an amazing guitarist as is robert plant with singing so i don't think they're hacks, only the people that try to be bad ass on youtube comments by critiquing the skills of artists much better than them. they are hacks.
@TruthAxe a bit harsh, wouldn't you say? Do you know how many rock bands took directly and indirectly from other musicians? Traditional songs and Delta Blues musicians got copied all the time too. Led Zeppelin is just one of numerous bands. Also, there's a saying: "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".
I bet you're an arrogant middle aged man who is sour because you haven't done anything in your life that can compare with Zeppelin. You aren't capable of a fraction of Page's skill.
@TruthAxe lmao I'm not wasting my time here. You're repeating your only comebacks. Do you even play guitar? I don't think you've ever touched one. If 6 months makes you so good why aren't hundreds of 7 year olds outplaying Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page? A lot of people can play guitar but only some people can PLAY guitar. Page can really, honestly play.
Tin ears? If you don't like the sound of Zep then that's a whole other debate based on personal preference. Sorry, you're confused.
You amuse, @birdcalledhope333. Again! In your childish intellect with your mediocre IQ, you assume that I'm writing "comebacks" to you. Your existence is meaningless to me. You'll die one day and few shall care.
That said, get off your lazy ass and search YouTube. There are scores of videos of little kids outplaying Jimmy Page.
Why do you bring up Clapton and Beck. They have been better than Page forever. They're not part of this deal.
It's a shame that Mr. Holmes wasn't given credit or royalties for such a great song. I've lost respect for Zeppelin in that they have made tens of millions of dollars and have "earned" more money they could spend in dozens of life times and not passed a few bucks to the creator of one of their signature songs. A song that they stole.
@LotusOfficial Lotus, it's the same song. It doesn't take much to change the words or use different instruments. It's the same song and due credit should be given to it's creator, Mr. Holmes. Between the four of them, Zep has made close to 100million dollars. A big reason for that kind of success is "Dazed and Confused" .They have performed it to last for nearly 3/4 of an hour live. It's one of the main staples of their set. Why not reward Jake Holmes for using his material, and without permission
@MusicTheFly Jake Holmes has files suit against Jimmy Page for Page stealing his song. He did it last year.If you hear the Holmes version and then listen to the Zep version, how can you not hear how simular they are?
@LotusOfficial Nor the progression. Nor the melody. they even copied a few aural effects from the original. To say all they did is take the title you must not have listened to it. They simply rearranged the same song and changed most of the lyrics.
Led Zeppelin are now issuing writs left right and centre stopping people posting bootleg shows/recordings of theirs, all the while not giving a damn about the originator of this song. Maybe they can put some of their royalties his way?
@kildare97 cmon dude, I'm a zeppelin fan and its still obvious to me how similar this song is to the zep version. Even the bass is the same towards the end, except zep added a few more notes
I have been a Zep fan since the 70s, and I have to say, Jimmy should have acknowledged this as the inspiration for his version. It's pretty obvious he got the idea from this song.
It's true that no idea is original, but damn...Zeppelin could have at least acknowledged the man. Their version was clearly a ripoff/sample/derivative/interpolation or whatever u wanna call it.
What to say....Music is about influences, and taking little parts of different compositions. But if I were a judge I'd say "this is almost a complete cover", and the attorney of Mr. Holmes has a point". He shouldn't have waited 42 years to make this complaint though. Holmes version itself is obviously a take on countless old blues standards. Fact is that some of Zeppelins most famous songs where definitely not that original. The Small Faces' "" You Need Lovin",arrangement is a case in point.
The original is great !!! Its in natural sound and It is heard as the blueprint for what it would become !!!

liberalinthedesertaz 2 months ago
Led Zepplin obviously had no qualms about ripping people off - just ask Willie Dixon. To suggest otherwise would be like saying Joe Cocker wrote "With A Little Help From My Friends". It makes me sick to think of any musician stealing from another musician!
tomgamble54 2 months ago
@tomgamble54 speaking as a musician, i'm sorry to dissapoint you, but there's really no such thing as "original music". every musician has influences that they admire and try to emulate, ie riffs, melodies, chord structures, tones etc, so obviously there are slews of metal bands that sound like metallica, saxophone players sounding like coltrane, film composers who sound like hans zimmer, and so on. you can call it a ripoff or you can call it homage.
wilky1189 2 months ago
@wilky1189 speaking as a musician, i have to disagree - there's a big difference in being influenced by someone and stealing their melody - there is a legal definition that the courts use, however common sense would indicate an outright ripoff in this case - as i'm sure Page will find out once again.
tomgamble54 2 months ago

@wblakesx Holme's song is VERY close to the Zep version. Melody and chord changes included. Even the intro is closely replicated and part of the middle section is related to this work as well. Page's version is clearly a reworking of this one.

Now I got it. Jimmy was the innocent dupe of those evil other members of the group who didn't let him on the fact that it wasn't their song. Therefore, no court will find him liable for plagiarism.

CrazyTrainisawesome 3 months ago
@CrazyTrainisawesome Let's look at it like this. You're freaking deaf if you think the only thing in common is one riff, and you're freaking dumb because Vanilla Ice WAS made to pay royalties and give songwriter credit to Bowie and Queen, the same that's going to happen yet AGAIN to Page once Jake's case gets heard. LMFAO!
SueMePlease 3 months ago
@SueMePlease Ladies and Gentlemen we have another 7 year old using the internet. Don't hurt his feelings though, he might get mad. Don't call me dumb considering I actually can play an instrument and can tell that this song has absolutely nothing in common except 1 bass riff and the title. If this man is in debt, don't blame Led Zeppelin for writing a good song with the same title, blame Jake Holmes for not being a good musician.
CrazyTrainisawesome 3 months ago
@CrazyTrainisawesome Your the one with hurt feelings, bud because your lack of knowledge about music, copyright law, and even Vanilla ice has been exposed and because your hero has been proven yet again to be a thief. Oh wait, wait, you can play an instrument! Now maybe if you could only read, lyrics as well as music, you'd be able to figure out how much of this song is stolen. Don't take my word for it though, you'll find out soon enough when Jimmy pays up and Jake gets a cowriter credit
AFatGuyNamedPete 3 months ago
@AFatGuyNamedPete Yes, because my absence of knowledge in this field is really apparent with my band's CD being released on all the major music distributional websites in all of America. Also, the case was proposed in June of 2010. I don't know if you know but it's currently October of 2011. If I don't know anything about music, then tell me how I managed to learn to play piano, bass, guitar, and drums, vocals, and taking all those talents to write my own music. Go ahead and be stubborn. Prick.
CrazyTrainisawesome 3 months ago
@CrazyTrainisawesome Congrats, you can read a calendar. You do know that's its usually two to three years from the time a suit is filed until a trial begins don't you? Can you figure out the math between the two dates you gave? If you know so much about music, why didn't you know Vanilla ice paid royalties? The next time you're sucking off Page, tell him you're the music expert and you want to tell his lawyers there's no case. You're going to be one surprised MFer when this is done.
AFatGuyNamedPete 3 months ago
@AFatGuyNamedPete I'm pretty sure they were already in court. Your just sad that you r idol isn't as popular as someone who is considered the greatest guitarist of all time. And he didn't pay royalties at first. and excuse me for not knowing about your shitty 90's rap performed by the whitest douche of all douches. Here. This should calm you down. Go listen to a real song (like something by Led Zeppelin, which has actually coherent music that isn't computer samples) and go get to know yourself.
CrazyTrainisawesome 3 months ago
@CrazyTrainisawesome Yeah that settles it, you're pretty sure it was in court. You're the expert LOL. I'll let you get the final word. For now at least, but I'll remember you when Jake gets royalties and his name as cowriter of the song.
AFatGuyNamedPete 3 months ago
@AFatGuyNamedPete Have you even listened to the Led Zeppelin version? Jimmy page didnt even know about the songs existence when he wrote it. When he played for the Yardbirds, he often had multiple riffs and stuff that were inspired from cover songs that he was told to try and learn, which he didn't know were cover songs and worked a song together around a riff he made, and titled it dazed and confused, not knowing that Jake Holmes wrote a song with the same title.
CrazyTrainisawesome 3 months ago
@CrazyTrainisawesome Jimmy Page wasn't aware of the songs existence? Is that why there's TWO videos on the right side of the screen showing him playing to song with the Yardbirds? LMAO!!

AFatGuyNamedPete 3 months ago

@CrazyTrainisawesome Oh come on. Holmes isn't in debt! He's a highly successful songwriter (he's written more major advertising jingles than just about anyone else in the last 3-4 decades) and has made plenty of money, it's partially why he didn't worry about this blatant plagiarism for years.
Just the same title & bass line? Are you deaf or did you just not listen? Page's arrangement is CLEARLY a version of this same tune.
mamacornettesmoney 3 months ago
@mamacornettesmoney ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? I can tell a bass line from another. The Led Zeppelin version has 4 extra riffs, all of which have no relation to this song. The only lyric that is the same in each is the title lyric. None of you have even heard the Led Zeppelin version. So don't ask me if I have hearing disability. Stupid snobby pricks (or cunts, which ever you all prefer)
CrazyTrainisawesome 3 months ago
@CrazyTrainisawesome No one is saying holmes should get full credit. Just partial credit as Page's riffs are CLEARLY built upon this song. That's how it works.
mamacornettesmoney 3 months ago
@CrazyTrainisawesome None of us have ever heard the Zeppelin version? You're right, Zeppelin never gets played on broadcast or Internet radio!
AFatGuyNamedPete 3 months ago
@SueMePlease I'd be really surprised if they don't settle before going to court. Far less obvious cases than this have resulted in co-songwriter credits and royalty payments. This one is a slam dunk. They just have to let the lawyers negotiate and see what they can agree on. No way does a judge hear this case and say Holmes has no rights to this song. Best move for everyone will be to settle early.
mamacornettesmoney 3 months ago
All you need to admit that this song is shit. If it wasn't for Led Zeppelin, Jake Holmes would have faded into obscurity. I think they were justified to take it because they made it into a kick ass tune.
CainmosniMirrored 4 months ago

Creation of Heavy Metal seems to be the product of acid trips lol.
stringscgda 4 months ago
@stringscgda No.
I mean Its a folk song nothing more.
Zeppelins song is heavy.
I really think people are exagerating this but I wish I was related to Jimmy Page to tell him to Put the credits as (Page/Holmes)

Mr2010Jamie 5 months ago
@Mr2010Jamie He was sued, & lost, for not giving credit on Whole Lotta Love, too. In fact, most of the riffs on the 1st 2 albums were lifted from other sources & he only gave credit on a couple of them until lawsuits forced him to share credit on others.
With that said, Page is an absolutely brilliant arranger & took existing tunes/riffs/progressions, etc and turned them into classic masterpiece. As his career went on, he wrote more original stuff (or lifted from more obscure sources).
mamacornettesmoney 5 months ago
@mamacornettesmoney Say Wha?
Whole Lotta Love was still original Considering it was just the lyrics.
Also Why is everybody so uptight You guys have to remember its NOT about the money and whatnot.
Page opened a new dimension and theirs is a different song considering the riff, solo and lyrics were all written by page
kildare97 5 months ago
@kildare97 No, that riff in Whole Lotta Love was directly lifted from an old blues number.
I'm not being uptight. i told you I have utmost respect for what Page did, but it WAS about money as Page was copywriiting stuff under his own name that he KNOWS he got from others. He most certainly was trying to maximize profit.
Yes, the Whole Lotta Love riff was a direct riff. he just put a lot more "umph" to it in the arrangement, but seiously, almost every rif on I & II are lifted.
mamacornettesmoney 5 months ago
@kildare97 If it wasn't about money, why did Page bother to copyright things taht he took from others? Why did he copyright traditional songs as original compositions? Why is he more protective of his copyrihts than any artist this side of Prince.
i LOVE Page and think he was a usical genius, but don't fool yourself & think he has the most integrity. He was defnitely using the laws to maximize profit & present things as his own when he was really rearranging stuff he learned as a session guy

Tony63909 5 months ago
@Tony63909
you have to admit, they changed the lyrics, the intrumentals, the only thing they didnt do is change the name.
LotusOfficial 5 months ago
@LotusOfficial Lotus, it's the same song. It doesn't take much to change the words or use different instruments. It's the same song and due credit should be given to it's creator, Mr. Holmes. Between the four of them, Zep has made close to 100million dollars. A big reason for that kind of success is "Dazed and Confused" .They have performed it to last for nearly 3/4 of an hour live. It's one of the main staples of their set. Why not reward Jake Holmes for using his material, and without permission
Tony63909 5 months ago
