@EbonyLoving22 Nah, they are up there though. The Roots are more of the Beatles of Hip Hop. I would say Outkast is more along the lines of Aerosmith or the Police. Big ups to all of them though!
Joints like these illustrate just why 1996 can be considered the very apex of Hip Hop creativity - the beats, the rhymes, the concepts....nothing can be compared to this level of Hip Hop, nothing....
@TheHumanBallsack True man, Beat Rhymes And Life - A Tribe Called Quest, Stakes Is High - De La Soul, and of course Atliens - Outkast ... (and many others) 1996 => Highest level of Hip Hop
@guideg Heltah Skeltah - Nocturnal, Mobb Deep - Hell on Earth, Jay Z - Reasonable Doubt, Makaveli - The Don Killuminati, Originoo Gunn Clappaz - The Storm, Bone Thugz - E 1999, etc etc....too many classics to even start countin..
@TheHumanBallsack ATLiens, Reasonable Doubt, It Was Written, Iledelph Halflife, All Eyez On Me, The Coming( Busta), The Score,Hell on Earth..... compare that to 2010.... ugh makes me sick
- Man I've been looking for the Vocal Breathe FX but I can't find it anywhere ... It's gotta be a keyboard sound effect sample cause I heard the same sound in 112 - What If and Usher - Mars vs Venus ...... SHARE YOUR SECRETS !! lol ....
To think this song was made when i was just 3 years old. Respect from the Bay to the ATL. imo best hip hop album ever, and this is one of my top 3 songs ever
@Kranda123 i cant count number of times ive heard this...probably in the tens of thousands...it was the only tape in my car for like 3 years back in 96...it never once occured to me that there are no drums. im so into the lyrics (still) that i just never thought about it.
@t3rr3nc388 yeah. the base hits tho. This is by far the most heard album ever for me. I wish I could drive when i was first jammin it. I'd have bumped the shit non stop. i was in 7th grade tho.
OMG 1 OF THE FEW CDS IN THE RAP GAME THAT YOU CAN LET EVERY TRACK RIDE. U KNOW HOW U KNOW YOUR CD IS THE SHIT. WHEN YOU KNOW THE WORDS TO EVERY SONG ON THE CD AND IT U REPEAT EVERY SONG. PURE CLASSIC!
This song is one of the most amazing, most overlooked and underrated songs in hiphop! I was so on to this song when the album came out, and I opened a lot of eyes to how incredible this song is. Still, a lot of cats be just don't ain't feeling this song, and I understand the reason why, it doesn't have a beat. But to me, that, and some other things, make this one of the best tracks that I have ever heard. IMO, this is one of the best tracks that was ever produced in hiphop!
Eic B & Rakim changed hip hop forever, Outkast brought a new dimension to the game and Black Star more than anything, wanted to educate. All three duos are very different and I can't say whose the best but they're all amazing.
If anybody has a bangin' system, disengage all equalizers and bass enhancements as they will not be necessary for this track.
eardrum and/or subwoofer damage may follow.
This has some of the lowest ohms I have ever heard on a non-bass CD...a regular set of computer speakers could never do it justice. This track will rattle your teeth loose with the right subs. I have never heard anything lower.
Andre came to my H.S.(Creekside) in April 97 and they were big but not HUGE; yet. He was down to earth and signed lil Jesse Yates Bass drum head, I got to play bass along side Andre before Andre 3000 and it is still the highlight of my career.........They are so deserving and talented with everything they have gotten...
nobody is gonna look back and say shawty lo, fabo, gorilla zoe, gucci, yo gotti, Baby, slim thug, oj da juiceman, said some thought provoking lyrics....
@nteligent these new rappers coming out of GA, Tennessee and other southern states aint doing us no justice. They arent saying anything that'll mean anything even 5yrs from now. They copy all the dope talk and trap shit from the southern rappers in the 90's but they somehow missed all the thought provoking content that came wtih all. These rappers nowdays is all an image.. none of its real.
@atl2maryland they can barely even rhyme anymore. it's all adlibs and repeating the previous lines and switching a word or two. it's lazy and pathetic.
this is my favorite outkast song and the cd is one of my all time favorites. aquemini was da shit but atliens was on a whole nother fucking level man. to this day, its still epic, thats how much this cd is legendary
andre3000 is one of the most creative artists of our generation in my opinion. A true great. Love Below was DIAMOND! And deserved it. 12x platinum quality mothafuckas.
Can't wait the next RETURN OF THE GANGSTA (Andre mothafuckin 3000)
maan... i remember listening to this album, stoned as fuck, to the point where i didn't want to move, thinkin...this is the realest shit ever, now i'm sober, and its stil some of the realest shit ever
outkast is deep they give u piece of mind if u rlly listen to the lyrics they always have some real shit everyone should know in there songs and if u just found out about outkast u got alot to learn
IF YOU HAVE THIS ALBUM READ THE COMIC ON THE PACKET (WHERE THE ALBUM ARTWORK USUALLY IS) its about a SERPENT race of NEWTS who are demons who stand for everything wrong and what are they called?? NASOMULLI ---- now take that word and flip it around backwards ---- ILLUMASON
read the fuckin comic if u dont believe me i figured this shit out yesterday while reading it OUTKAST IS TRYING TO TELL us..not to mention the whole story is about the lost city of atlantis as well
its hip hop like this that actually transcends the genre. I dont listen to much rap/hip hop anymore but Outkast are simply put one of the best groups/duos to ever come out in music, period.
One time, my brother came back from college to spend some time with the family, when I was like, 4 or 5. I went into his room, we chilled, and I heard this track playing. That was the last time I heard it up until less than a year ago, when I was 16. I remembered it immediately. That's how epic it is.
I used to listen to this album back in ´97.. a classmate told me that "this is the shit! dont eva forget the group Outkast and album ATLiens.." and I never did. listen to it even today when im driving to work etc :)
outkast is epic music, i like to listen to them always but especially when theres large amounts of psyilocibin in my system, their instrumentals and lyrics are legendary their albums are classic and theyre 2 of the coolest muthafuckas to ever live
"Right now I'm smilin, taking advantage of this moment cuz there might not be another soon, holdin on to memories like rollercoaster handle bars tighly, cuz im slightly, off my rocker but to you I might appear to be your average joe, but little do you know, even joe got problems......" Andre 3000 is really on a different planet. Way too talented......come check out my rhymes on my page and let me know what u think J-WHIT
Many around my way ignore this song because it doesn't have a beat. I have awakened some to how incredible this song is, though. To me, the melody sounds like some extraterrestrial forest or jungle. The sound effects just sound like that to me. Still, some just can't feel this song because, again, it doesn't have a beat. No beat was the thing that caught my ear the first time I heard this, and the totally unique sound. This is one of the best hip hop songs I've ever heard.
@jarbon5 to me it sounds like in any lake or swamp in the south during the summer! word haha but yeah man that no beat is sick since it exaggerates the lyrics!
@chyeah214 I don't know, it just made me think of a surrounding that was wholey extraterrestrial when I heard it (plus, I live in the south, there are no swamps where I be, but we do have lakes and thangs were we get to hear the cicadas singing in the summer evenings). Also, I was listening to this with my eyes closed when I first came across this song, so the imagination was on full throttle! But, it does tend to make the lyrics stand out, especially Dre's verse!
this song is absolutely incredible, this is the first song i ever heard from outkast and ive loved them ever since....ABSOLUTE FUCKING LYRICAL GENIUSES!!!!
I think i speak for all of us that this shit is just unbelievable, its just unbelievable, out of this world. pff i make beats and alot of music but theres no chance to,..
Wayne needs to take notes. THIS is what a extraterrestrial track should sound like. Not that Phone Home bullshit. OutKast is the greatest rap group ever. Hands down.
Dis is real ass music. This shit aspire me to write but in the pass five years it been hard to stay focus wit all this bull shit they putting on the radio
Man, this is one of the illest songs I've ever heard. Love the extraterrestrial feel of the beat and Dre just kills it. A lot of dudes I know don't really like this song cuz it doesn't have a drum beat, but to me, that's what makes this song so special. Whoever decided to take/keep the beat out was a genius. Another thing that gets me is that this song is sooo original, there will probably never be another song like this one I love that!
A true outkast follower since day one these brothers were born the same year as me and have eerily always been rappin about things that were going on in my head at the time. This Album, which is usually people's least favorite was my favorite followed by a close second with Aquemini...but Atliens was their most visonary
yo im pissed how can a rap group be this fucking good i mean damn im always thinking of one of there songs and always want to hear from them X_X they get u ubssesed with there music they are true geniouses

But little do you know
that even joe got problems that he gots to joust with
Floating in this game of life
Despite how out of place you may feel
In this race oh you just can't quit
Ain't that a bitch" "Cause in a sense
See we all be kind of fly
Just can't be scared to spread your wings
Head to better things" it like those lyrics were made for me. Other kids my age just don't understand.

IF they had just put some drums in the beat, or even a bassline, this would be one of the greatest songs ever.
It's still one of my favorite OutKast songs though.

Wayne needs to take notes. THIS is what a extraterrestrial track should sound like. Not that Phone Home bullshit. OutKast is the greatest rap group ever. Hands down.

I appreciate this album more as the years have gone by. I still like their first album the best, but this is definitely their next best album.
