  • Great

  • im confused what the purpose of the tower is though , looks like a sun dial, the video dosent explain it

  • Song title:

Two Steps From Hell - Enigma

  • What song is this????????

  • @Aierwin Two Steps From Hell - Enigma

  • Whats the song name?

  • @Kelthx Two Steps From Hell - Enigma

  • My body is ready.

  • Why dislike this video anyway .

  • بحلم بيه لبلدي بجد .

  • this can be a future should have like 6 of them in new york and s.f any city and towns too

  • To be more efficient it needs to separate the different frequencies of light (ultraviolet, visible, etc..) and direct that light to separate panels. I am unsure if that would still allow plants to grow underneath but solar panels aren't 100% efficient anyways so I am sure tons of light will still escape to the plants. I also want to see desalination ideas and how we can produce more freshwater!

  • This Track is Enigma by Nick phoenix & Thomas bergesen

  • If it does what I think it does, it's brilliant. They got too much sun, why not turn the excess rays into energy, then let a healthy amount seep through to nourish the underneath vegetation.

It's not problem free though. Eg. large buildings need a steady fundament to rest on. Sand is not suitable.

But it's definately a good idea.

  • Hope GlaDOS dusnt get in there..........NO VALVE!

  • The sad thing is this is the kind of thing the idiots in Dubai should have been doing instead of buying ferrari go carts and building private islands.

  • Thermals to send the first birds to space.

  • We should cut down all our trees and build these all over the world.

  • @TeboFire With such an enormous amount of desert space on the planet, this isn't needed. :) Obviously you were joking, but still... I'm sure some might assume such power plants would take up enough space to require cutting away forests (and protest such), and I want to clarify to those individuals that there is more than enough room for these. :)

  • @GreatWallStr1 Eh! Most green solutions overestimate the energy demands needed just to build these things.

I joke because GOV subsidized projects like these often do more to stuff pockets with holes in them than do any real good. You know like Al Gore!

That said the tech looks like it could be combined with some sort of farm. Cool tech bad politics. Sadly we wouldn’t have this problem if Al Gore would stick to investing his own money.

  • anyone have a Minecraft version yet?

  • If they build this in Arizona i want a tour. an they should build more of these. !!!

  • I watched the " Drink my breastmilk" after watching this. Thumbs!!! >^_^<

  • Geothermal powerplants or Thorium reactors are much cheaper, more effective and more safe.

  • an awesome idea worth leaning toward especially in the near future, but what captivates me is the SONG being played in the background. It made this video 100%

  • Bad idea because it is not cost efficient, and if someone would take a deeper look at the thermodynamics, a big efficiency increase (and a lot smaller system) can be created by adding a compression stage. Thus you get a Brayton cycle... These kinds of "inventions" are not going to help us solving the energy problem. The math simply does not add up. However, I've came across a lot of these ideas lately so I think a lot of investors are being deceived.

  • @bbeirinckx when I saw this comment I immediately thought of a parabolic cooling tower design and wondered how much more this would add to it's efficiency .

  • It's such a nice idea, I wish it was realistic. The problem is the low conversion rate makes it cost ineffective.

  • good job, i like the idea as well as the music

  • the name of the song: Enigma

the group: two steps from hell --> nick phoenix and thomas bergensen

they compose for movie trailers, tv, and games, however most of their music isn't available commercially as of yet.

if anyone finds a link to their other works, it'd be much appreciated

  • the name of this song needs to be posted and "liked" so that us musical enthusiasts can rest peacefully at night. pun intended :)

  • The problem with these kind of technologies are very costly.

  • @imaginationhadi the environment is priceless

  • @MissesDizaster Nature was priceless! Similar love of mothers! But as humanity grow and advanced in industry, and day by day the burdens of expenses are increases until destroy nature and breaks the back bone of humanity!

  • whats the point of big chamine in the center? There should be some glass on it...

  • worlds 2nd largest building solar tower.......!!!!!!!!!!

  • What`s the song name ?

    Thanks :)

  • This is a brilliant idea. I really do hope that the one in AZ goes forward without a hitch, because it just makes sense--bright, hot desert, little seismic activity, and an air-conditioning dependent population of potential customers.

Also, may I ask the name of the song in this? It's GORGEOUS!

  • @Poofiemus guys combine this with nikola teslas wireless power tower "wardenclyffe tower" then use the energy and transport it to everyone wirelessly! please look it up, i show proof of wireless power on my youtube. lets combine both technologies!

  • This will attract base jumpers =D

  • Comment removed

  • @mobius1234 doubt ful;, if something goes wrong and you crash through their extremely epensive solar panels, they won't be happy.

  • I was just thinking of this idea, then discovered its been done already, and its superb.

    Great stuff.

  • Will the tower survive an earthquake? If it tumbles down in the desert nobody will be wounded, and there is no radioactivity as in nuclear power plants.

But the investment into the concrete tower would be gone. Or you use an elastic construction or a WEEBLE TOY tower ;-)

  • @updrafttower Luckily in AZ, we don't get earthquakes. The closest thing we get are minor aftershocks from Cali, that you don't notice until you see the water in your pool jostling back and forth. =)

  • @Bright1592Thanks for this information. But If there are no earthquakes, why is there no progress in putting up the tower? Was the project already started or do you know when it will be finished? Meanwhile you read on enviromissions homepage: "Whilst EnviroMission now expects the first Solar Tower will be developed in the USA..."

  • @updrafttower I heard on the news that they are planning to build this tower in AZ's desert. I don't know that much information, it was just on our local news about building the tower here.

  • @Bright1592 Thanks. But they plan it already for 3 or 4 years and nothing happens. But after the Fukushima-Event it might becomes a favorite. Why not, it is clean, and it is a wastage, when the sun warms the desert only . Like the mighty tower as my name reveals. A professor from my former university (Jörg Schlaich) is a kind of godfather of the idea, but it was already discribed in a book in 1931 by Hans Günther,("In 100 Jahren") but the inventor himself was french or dutch. (ice.he.net)

  • @updrafttower I just remembered that they had said that they expect it to be finished by 2015! Lol I knew I was half way paying attention during the story. =)

But I totally agree. I mean, Arizona is arguably the hottest place in America, and for sure the driest.

  • @Bright1592 Yes, the investors are beating around the bush. By the way, according to the maps there must have been some navajo indians in AZ. Maybe do you know if this tribe earlier made fire rubbing wood on wood (actually drilling)? I read this method was wide spread among the aborigines. I have to make sure the fact if navajo indians did so too, cause I created a little cartoon with a navajo indian rubbing wood with such an indian in the foreground and the (monument) valley behind him.

  • @updrafttower Oh God, I have no idea. But it sounds likely. How else would ancient Navajo's make fire? Also, I'm sure its google-able.

  • @Bright1592 O sorry , I thought you can meet a navajo indian on every corner in AZ that he would tell you. But I think I can be sure. Well, m I envy you because of your weather. In Germany you have eternal autumn the whole year through. I mean a solar tower should not be built in the monunent valley. Elsewhere I will visit it.

  • @updrafttower Oh I wish. No, I only ever saw Navajo's when I went to the Casino's hotel. But even then you barely see them. But ya the heat is nice, but its gets excessive. But our Springs and Winter's are beautiful! Brief. But beautiful.

  • @Bright1592 When the tower will be finished in 2015, I will visit it.

I suggest we make a barbecue on the top-edge of the tower together, having a beautilful panorama, making fire by rubbing wood on wood. So long then!

  • So are they going through with it? I read somewhere that they have power purchase agreements and an engineering firm laying the groundwork. Any more info?

Nice animation by the way. If you make any more, you should do it so a cumulus cloud passes over the chimney and you show it getting blown up by the air. I think that would look cool.
