Black metal isn't meant to be bumped in your car or televised. Bands who do achieve this effect such as Immortal have met a secondary objective that is not relevant to black metal. So maybe it would help you to reevaluate whether you are truly a black metal fan or just an Immortal fan, because there is a significant distinction.

I have difficulty comparing it to thrash metal. I think it's much more evolved and complex than thrash, which tends to be on the more childish side. That's not a bad thing, and I may have made a few enemies, which is their loss, but I think Immortal has become its own brand of metal. It's sorta progressive and symphonic as opposed to the raw brutality of their old material. That is the mark of glory. The only other band that comes to my mind that is in a similar status is Maiden...
