NEVER underestimate a mothers natural spontaneous Intuition whhen it involves her child!
What a great great mom to make 50 firefighters get out and dig even when they don't want to.
If you feel its necessary in a kind manner let it be known, they work for you, same goes for physicians who don't believe you about pains in your body etc, its YOUR life and you must make everyone fight for it,if you don't nobody else will unless you live in a buddhist monestary D:
Who in their right mind would leave a four year old child out side to play unsupervised?? If the sister would watch her little brother more carefully this would probably would have been prevented.
geez, people relax. I pronounce newfoundland, 'newfinland' Pronouncing New.Found.Land, who does that anyway. Just say it in a sentence....trust me, 90% of ppl would pronounce it 'newfinland', its just the flow of it... Like "Im from newfoundland'. Saying NEWFOUNDLAND is like a tongue twister. NEWFINLAND flows better, that's why ppl pronounce it like that.
The child is about 5 years old, his brain has not fully grown yet, of course he does not understand that it is dangerous to be near the the truck. I bet that you thought it was fun to watch on large vehicles working in the snow when you was about 4-5 years old.
If you get trapped under snow, if you can move your head around to make an air pocket. The snow will filter air through, slowly but control your breathing and you can survive for hours. The longest snow burial survivor that I've heard about was buried for just over 9 hours. If you are able, move your fingers and toes also, this will keep blood flowing to your extremities and will slow the onset of hypothermia. Do not panic, you will use too much air too fast if you do.
@OneSkiWonder you forgot that a small child can die from losing heat too quickly. Children are very different from adults. their bodies are much smaller and therefore can lose heat quicker. Also they arent as strong as an adult, so moving the snow to make air room is a lost hope.
i want to know why the sister let him go out alone? he's only 4! and since the snowplow is working, they must live along a road or parking lot or something. this kid reminds me of my son who had ADHD - you cant take your eyes off him for a minute! and no matter what the weather is, a 4 year old has no business outside alone. forget the snow, what about cars, perverts, mean dogs, whatever. even just him wondering away.
this isent "New Finland" Shatner its NEWFOUNDLAND! geeze apart from making us a blob in most of youre maps you Americans cant even pronounce the name of our provence right!
William Shatner IS Canadian & that's how it's pronounced in Central Canada. By the way, if you want your critique to be taken seriously, you should check your spelling. ie. province, can't, your, isn't, it's, and so on.
@MetalSanke you do know that much of our language originated from yours right? We changed the pronounciation after the revolutiopnary war as a way of showing dislike towards teh Brittish. Learned that in History class.
I'm glad I have no children. My wife has 2 grown kids & 4 grandkids; the youngest grandson isn't 3 yet and he is a handful touching everything but he is really alot of fun. The older grandchildren (much older than the youngest) get really spoiled rottin by me.
It reminds me a winter in elementary school when a group of kids dug a tunnel through a big mountain of snow. The tunnel was about 5 meters long and every kid got to go through it!
Thank God nothing happened! Finally some teachers found out and close the tunnel before any accident happened.
No, that much snow packs. You could be just hitting some well packed snow and start digging in the wrong place. While hitting harder may cause additional damage it's really the only way to tell if you are hitting more snow or a body.
insaneapples they probably didn't "HAVE TO" reinact this. They may have wanted to, to help make others aware of the dangers. It's sad that it takes and accident or even a tradgity to make people more aware of such dangers. But that seems to be the way of life.
i used to LOVE playing in the giant piles of snow that the snowplow made. that was my FAVORITE thing to do when i was little. his older sister should have been watching him. she should have been checking out the window at him at least. but either way, its amazing that they found him. wodnerful people.
I loved to play in it too! when I was a kid; playing football in the snow was fun too! Yes, no matter what, do get someone to check on you even just looking out the window. What a cute sweet kid he is.
I would have beat the shit out of the older sister, who was apost to be watching him in the first place. I hope the mom gave her some good beating and her ass locked up in jail
Well they could work extremely slowly and still wouldn't see a little kid on the other side of a snow bank. :P
Working too quickly has nothing to do with it. They should have made sure someone was watching the blind side of the bank or maybe not piled it up so high but there's only so many things you can do on a budget. Just an accident is all it was.
What an idiot of a mother. What an incompetent fool. Another example of parental incompetence and should've lost her child to social services and never got him back, ever again. I'd put her sorry a** in jail.
private dork... you do realize that this is just a reenactment. she was just standing there because this isn't live footage. why not get mad at the camera man, he wasnt digging either. loser

I lived right next to where this happend, since then franky and his family have moved away. My brother new him i was to young to have none him when he was four.

I remember when this episode first aired. I was only about 7 at the time... Now I'm 20. Brings back lots of good memories about this show. That kid was so funny at the end of the episode. "Be careful when you play in the snow, because it may bury you up," (pause...) "That's it!" and he jumps off the couch! lol :)
now when they were lookin for him why didnt they start diggin toward the ground!hes not that big and if u look close to the ground, they would have found him faster
That's what I thought. I was hoping the actual rescue effort was better organized than the reenactment (which looked like people just stirring the snow around--starting at the very top!) but since it took 70 minutes, I guess it wasn't! Why didn't they concentrate on where the footprints were?
