One of the worst Beatles songs ever recorded. It's awful. And I LOVE the Beatles. The song is shit. I can't believe it's written by the same guy that wrote "Here, There, and Everywhere" and "Helter Skelter".
@TyVerte I'm afraid not. It's a crappy, simple song that would have been a throwaway in their prime. Like it or not. In the end they didn't have a lot of Beatles songs. Which is why the medley on Abbey Road exists in that form. Read up. Do your homework. I'm totally right.
@daliraygun Simple is never bad. I did have a lot of songs that's why all four of them produced very successful albums after breaking up with all the stored songs they had. Either way, I still enjoy Get Back. Certainly it's not their best but it still beats anything on the charts today.
@matchbox555 I guess this is just a useless debate. If you like get back then I guess you have simple tastes that are very easy to please. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's a matter of personal taste. But please, if you know anything at all about music, and you play "Penny Lane" for instance, and "Get Back" one right after the other. I really don't see how there is an argument about the fact it's an inferior song by a genius songwriter. It's a little ditty at best, nothing more. Fact.
@daliraygun the bit where get back stops and then ringo comes in with "dum dum dum dum dum dummm!" is my favorite thing ever... see here>>> watch?v=U4G35BO8fTc#t=2m19s lol@penny lane... penny lane is a fairly simple song.. you should have said something like strawberry fields, a day in the life or the b side version of revolution.. wait those are johns songs... ok then maybe helter skelter or hey jude........ look get back is awesome... being simple is part of whats cool about it.
@matchbox555 I wouldn't say something like Strawberry Fields because if you know anything about the Beatles you would know Strawberry Fields is Lennon song. I was comparing McCartney to McCartney. See? OK, I used "Here, There, and Everywhere" as an earlier illustration of what I was saying. You can't call that a simple song. (Actually, neither is Penny Lane, you try writing that). Either song is far superior to Get Back. Look, if you like it, you like it. Good for you.Still a throwaway for Mac.
@lees2oo8 Having her there really is pretentious bullshit, which the other guys rightfully disliked. And one could argue she wasn't much of a muse b/c his best stuff was arguably pre-Yoko. That aside, what occurs to me is that, WTF was wrong w/her that allowed her to just sit there? She had her own life & interests, how could she not be bored out of her mind while they screwed around like this? Unless she enjoyed the power, not only of being a Beatles insider, but as the center of John's world.
@fretbuzz59 Why do people still get worked up about her. The only real truth is that she was the love of Johns life. He lived what he wrote. He was devoted to her and she to him. Learn from the music and from that love. True the others weren't too thrilled with her at times but only because John was focusing more on her and less on them as time passed. It was nothing she did. That's what happens with a man and a woman. All 4 loved each other and in the end, the love remained.
@mrfester42 Of course they loved each other. And if they were 16 it would be one thing. But as adults it's both pretentious & juvenile. Was she IN the band? No. So she had no business being there. Period.
Billy Preston was one of the greatest keyboard players around at the time. He also had a very calming influence on the boys - who at this point were starting to argue and bicker amongst themselves. Sadly Billy passed away in June 2006. A great musician sorely missed.
@MontegoJoker14 well thats all taken out of context. becuase lenno qouted in the famous playboy interview 1980 that HE FELT like paul was looking at yoko every time he sang get back to where you once belong
yoko ono the communication genius -- just see how her presence makes everybody feel at ease, -- great vibes, jolly good humor, just lifts the whole scene up ))
It must be extremely hard to rehearse with one of te musicians´s wife sitting there all the time!!! I guess that sometimes a band need some kind of privacy... camera´s presence all the time must have benn annoying, too....but if there´s something that they certainly were used to was the presence of cameras!!!
Anyway it´s wonderful to see tihis AMAZING band rehearsing!!! Thanx for possting this treasure!!!
the beatles pretty much owned abby road.. i dont think studio time was a problem after they made it big.. especially after they formed apple.. they probably paid them to come in. haha
It's odd to think, if the Beatles had gained their US popularity in 2003, they would be broken up by now. To a 29 year old, it seems like they made music for so long.....but 10 years is seeming smaller and smaller every day.
Or to look at it the other way round, considering the longevity of The Rolling Stones and The Who--and even U2, for that matter--the merely seven years The Beatles were a functioning, active recording group were just jammed with amazing creativity. They did more in that short time than longer lived groups do in entire careers.
I read from a couple sources online that the "Jojo" from "Tucson, Arizona" was actually based on a bar in Tucson, Arizona called Jojo's bar, apparently on 22nd Street.
I know McCartney had/has a ranch there in Tanque Verde, but I wanna know specifically where this bar was (the building, any info, etc.)
Yoko destroyed a perfectly good band. Give her credit for being the amazing Con Artist she was/is. She pulled the wool over Lennon's eyes somehow, then hooked him on Heroin so she could really have control. She is really a despicable person. Watch the Imagine Film when John & George start talking about the Beatles days and having a good laugh. She shoots Lennon a look and the good times ended right there.
Lennon seemed to be losing interest before he brought Yoko into the deal...Magical Mystery Tour etc. According to Revolution In The Head, the Revolver sessions were tense, with Lennon and McCartney falling out occasionally. Harrison quit after the Phillipines disaster, and it was touch and go whether they'd carry on. Epstein promised no more touring (assuming they'd want to 'get back' to it eventually) so Harrison re-joined.
Add to that Lennon's annoyance at the way singles were going (ie. his efforts as b-sides)...Harrison's interest in Indian/more jam friendly group like The Band and Delaney and Bonnie. Harrison enjoyed a more free-thinking and open rehearsal which he was not getting under McCartney's direction. Add to that enormous backlogs of songs by all concerned and there is plenty of non-Yoko related reasons as to why The Beatles came to an end.
yoko definetly had a high influence on the beatles break up but john wuz fading away from the beatles a little b4 and wen he met yoko it all sped up and went into the toilet....
Oh I agree. There's no way they would have went on for more than a few of more years. J,P, & G certainly realized they could stand on their own. If Yuko wasn't in the picture, than there's a good chance Klein wouldn't have been either. But it was the Management/Business issues that would have been the main problem. Not Yuko's interference and the heroin problem she helped Lennon acquire. They didn't need to continue forever like the Stones or Who. Their legacy was set.
Ringo seems to be like, "W-h-a-t-e-v-e-r, do your thing and I'll lay down the drum track later... I got a groupie girl that needs boinked right now..."
I wonder why Phil Spector ended up being the one that mixed the Master Tapes for this "Let It Be" album?
@johnnyharpe From what Yoko says John wanted her therer all the time so it all depends on what you believe as John is not here to answer, It must have been hard when she was commenting on evryones work, if you look at the part when Lennon was doing how do you sleep in his documentary you can see her whispering to him aboutt he band kind of vamping he would never had said anything but it seemed to me he did to keep her happy just my observation.
@johnnyharpe ah, I don't know why I had to say something so mean. It's not her fault, I think John reeally needed a mommy. I think that was what was going on there.
The US government feared Lennon for a while, and a lot of others too. That's not the point of this video. Isn't it wonderful to be watching one of the original Beatles videos on You Tube for everyone to see. I bet Paul, Ringo and Yoko get a kick out of it. I know I look better when I was young!
Man, it is so weird to see the greatest musicians in history run through these bits and pieces of songs like it was nothing. All those riffs and verses are historic. It's like watching Beethoven fart around with the 5th Symphony.
The Beatles are my favourite groups since childhoos, although to be honest I think Lennon was a nutty. He wanted to promote "peace" yet he didn´t know anything about politics, he just wrote senseless songs regarding hell and heaven. I also respect Lennon as a songwriter, he was greeeeat but due to drugs he lost prespective. The US government had something to do with his murder, there´s no doubt about it, although he was not Martin Luther King.
He knew a lot of peace and politics; and you can't combine the two anyway. Peace is a subject on which war is washed away; politics are a state of perspective and controversey in where people try to rule what they can.
And I suppose you are one of his followers? I suppose you also know the way to peace, ¿Don´t you? IMAO. I hope you don´t promote peace the rude way you do. IMAO Let me clarify your statement: ¿You say that the US government didn´t fear Lennon because he was very influential or that he was not nuts? One thing is that he was a great wongwriter, another that he wanted a world withoul rules, without heaven or hell, or no religion too.
Lennon is one of my favourite singers, so don´t misunderstand me. Another thing is to say that because he was one, his opinions are always valid. ¿Give peace a chance and also dope and LSD? C´mon, A lot of people do not do weed nowadays because it´s harmful, also LSD. Since you are so nice, I assume this is the kind of peace you also promote. :-) Your words define your character.
People always seem to say"They were so high" when they watch beatles clips. But they were actually never high during the recording sessions with a few exceptions. They've said it themself you know. One time John was going to take an "upper" but accidentaly took drugs when he was on his way to the studio. I think it was when they were recording 'Pepper.
Nice to see them laughing as a group....right at the end. Probably forced by the presence of Billy Preston, but laughing nonetheless. The creative process laid bare...endless takes and lots of sitting around.

No my friend, the US government feared Lennon more than you think.

Two words for you, manixxxo;
fuck you.

Would you trade living in the age of the Internet for living in the era when an electric piano sounded so cool and hip?
I know what my decision would be.

Good thing they didn't have to pay the studio by the hour!

Paul actually got high the least out of The Beatles, so the chances of him being stoned during recording sessions are pretty slim.

Well, he was the first to be on cocaine actually.

Nice to see them laughing as a group....right at the end. Probably forced by the presence of Billy Preston, but laughing nonetheless. The creative process laid bare...endless takes and lots of sitting around.
