i was smoking heroin when on the radio they said adrian borland just killed himself... i was like fuck... last week it was the plasmatics singer what the fuck is going on...
Yeah, U2 is so fucking bad. Give me a break. I can't believe this constant yammering by imbeciles who compare everything to U2 and think U2 is shit. Fuck, you must have selective hearing.
I feel like if Adrian Borland had jumped in front of a train after this album the Sound would be as big as Joy Division is today. Both bands are amazing and have such raw emotions/power.
haha I removed a comment because I was listening to the fall on media player and forgot I was. Anyways yeah, The sound didn't get enough air time in the states
I love the Sound and dozens of other obscure legends throughout time...but.....and I'm asking here, is 'recognition' the be and and end all? If you're enjoying a band at any moment, then what matter is it if the band got 'recognition' from the machine? What is that anyways? And if there's a pain, it should begin with the creator's for the music...and even still, that's selfish in a way, because music is always bigger than the musician themselves. So why all the lamentation folks? Money????
Magnificent, nothing else I can think of describes this better than that. Adrian Borland was a very gifted individual, who left behind quite a grand legacy. Driven by the urge to create and express himself, yet relentlessly haunted by the merciless spectre of depression. This was a great man, who is sorely missed by many.
Ah man. post punk music is great for the soul. Joy Division,Echo & The Bunnymen, Birthday Party, The Smiths. Can't ask for more. Lady Ga Ga has nothing on this music.
Starts of a little sounding like Jim Morrison and ends up sounding like Ian from Echo and the Bunnymen. still a great band. I havn't heard them in years. I forgot about so many of these bands. Like The Names and Gang of Four. I have had a new discovery of them.
Wasted Youth(the UK post-punk band) borrowed alot from this song for their own epic masterpeice "Survivors" 1 & 2....The Sound were so influential on many,...And don't forget about Second Layer too!, world of rubber lp is a freakin masterpeice!
Production on this track is so incredible. The whole album is incredible. The Sound is incredible. So sad that they are so vastly underrated. It's a crime against music, really. This is timeless.
From The Lions Mouth is one of my favourate records of all time.
That album was perfect, not one bad track on it.
Back in 84 I had the pleasure of meeting these guys when they were drinking in the pub where I worked. Saw Adrian perform solo at the end of the nineties and loved it.
How this band never got the accolades they deserved is one of lifes great mysteries.
This is one of my favorite tracks. Its lyrics are just as poignant today, if not more so than in '81. Its sound is still relevant, as more 'indie' bands borrow from the criminally overlooked post-punk movements.
The Sound has always deserved a larger audience. I can't for the life of me understand why Echo & The Bunnymen have reached such (relative) commercial and critical success whilst Adrian Borland's material gets the shaft. Not to say that The Bunnymen are anything but great listening.
I lost my love for U2 .saw them in belgium 1983, and madrid 1993 or 94, i don't even remember. They were great shows but i'm not a fan of stadium shows. When listening to U2, it doesn't have whatsoever effect on me, but when I hear the Sound, I promise that every single hair of my body raises off!!!
its a wonderfull band to, adrian was possessed about ian and jim and they were a major influence of his music/band style, but, the sound was even more underrated than joy division since they had'nt the same recognition that joy division had...
Enjoy !
