My mum is really sensitive to smells as well, and she and my dad wanted me to throw it out because they said it stunk the whole house out. I think it's not so much the scent (it smells a bit like vanilla mixed with old lady's perfume), but that it smells so much, and everyone can smell it on your skin.

I use it all the time when you apply it it just smells like nice moisturiser then sort of smells like burning kind of,I apply it at night then in the morning ishower and the smell is gone and I'm lovely and tanned :) x

lol that happened 2 me it was the first tan i tried because i am natural pail and was bored of ppl calling me halfpint haha so yer i tried it before a date

and it stunk but thank god for youtube because i found ppl talking about this like tan called st. moriz all sayin it is amassing so i went down the shops and picked up a 200ml mousse for £2.49 and omg! it have a really nice sent nothing like fake tan and it doesn't turn your orange. i had so many ppl asking me have i been on holiday XD

Completely agree :| The smell just outweighs the good qualities about it unfortunately :( and I bought three bottles 'cause it was on offer at Boots! I have taken the two unopened ones back and bought Garnier's summer body which has a delicious fruity smell. I've been using it for about 3 days now and I love the colour, no problems so far for me! :)

does anyone find it peels a couple of minutes after rubbing it in? am i applying it wrong? like using too much or something? thats the main problem i find with it. ive been using it on and off for a few years now. i thought it smelt ok with the old formula and the old and hadnt noticed a difference. the main problem i have is the peeling and it feels sticky afterwards

@injectedlove Yes!!! This is the problem I have with it! I haven't bought it in years but when I tried it after a few minutes it would peel off me and I'd be covered in gross bits! I found the smell of it back then horrendous and I just decided it didn't react well with my skin. I have been using Dove Summer Glow body lotion ever since and find it much better. xx

look at how much you put on i use about a hazel nut size and rub it in really well

3)Exfoliate in shower. Use lemon based shower gels help neutralize smells. Use normal moisteurizer in the mornings and most importantly talcom powder - just be careful if wearing black!

4) never apply more than once daily and never before you are about to go out. best time is 1.5hours before bed.

The Johnson's holiday skin is the worst fake tan smell I've experienced.

What I found though, is you can minimize it but you have to be completely clinical.

1)low carb diet- stops water retention:changes smell of (+ reduces) natural sweating influencing tan smell

2) every morning do at least 20-30 mins cycling/running to sweat out any water retained that would otherwise make its way out during the day.

you should smell the proper spray on tan then if you think this smells bad, my god it smells awful especially when you go on the sun bed afterwards to dry off, its smell like you have cooked flesh which i suppose it but eurgh! icky

so weird, i have like the best nose in south London and I don't mind the smell that much, i smell it but it's worth the tan - but that's another story, this products didn't work for me at all, i used fair/medium and medium/dark new formula. and my skin is NW15 in Mac, so imagine - i'm as pale as they get. no results. so i was saying, that you seem to like bio oil - yes it works, but the smell just kills me, so much worse than holiday skin

If you are looking for a great face tan product you should definitely try L'Oreal Nutri Summer Face. That's the best if it comes to face. I realised that if I put the other on to my face, my skin will become very "bumpy" after a couple of uses.

Well. I've tried many fake tan products; Garnier, Dove, L'Oreal, Johnsons and some of the instant tan as well. And so far this one (Johnsons) is the best. I've got it in fair, but I don't think that matters. The tan looks real, pretty, quite even and I like the smell. Maybe you left yours on the sun or just got a bad luck.

Maybe they've changed the fragrance/formula now because I've just tried it, and it doesn't smell. Smells of vanilla. Now I have a pretty sensitive nose, so go into Superdrug and have a whiff of it now, it's really ok! First day of trying it so will let you know about the tan.

wierd, i just tried it on one of my arms. And i think the tan looks amazing. I'm really pale, and do not like the orange look. And it looks subtle like a ordinary kind of tan. Mine doesn't smell, i just asked my brother to smell my arm to check and he says it smells like vanilla. Probabaly because of the vanilla lotion but yeah, i'm good and happy :D

Recently I have tried a new tanner by Piz Buin..its about £11 in Boots but its the first one that I have tried in ages that doesn't leave an awful smell after application. It has quite a good colour (the only downside is that it doesnt last for very many days) but I would definitely recommend this one, as colour develops quite quickly after applying and the smell is practically non-existant!

Oohh i bought this last month in the fair to medium...

I used it once before a few years ago and it came out really orange and groce since i have pale skin. However, I decided to try it again and its actually quite alright now.. Downside to it is that it takes AGES to absorb properly..Oh and i agree with you.. The smell.

Haha, so glad it's not just me!! :) You shouldn't let it put you off other products, I use lots of them and this is the only product I've tested that has that smell! It should just have an ordinary tan smell, that's not so bad! :)

OMG! i know exactly what you mean, i tried this last week, and it's is absolutely disgusting. I've never tried any fake tans and after trying this i'm really reluctant to try another :( the smell is just like nothing i've ever smelt before. It lasted for days, i was scrubbing and scrubbing and it wouldn't go away, the memory of the smell is forever imprinted in my nose! haha, great vid, offensive is definately the word for the whiff!

I didnt like this either =/ palmers is also a horrible build up one, the smell is horrible and the colour goes patchy =| I do like xen tan, its more expensive but one application and it will last a good 5 days and it doesnt turn an orange colour either. I use to love a rimmel make up fake tan but they discontinued it, so i tryed some of their newer 1s and they also looks orange and have like glitter in so they look so obviously fake lol hope this helps xox

Haha, sorry you had such a horrible experience! I'm very wary of moisturizing self-tanners. I have a very sensitive nose, so I can't handle most of them. I've only really tried the Jergens and Dove ones... Jergens smelled too strong for me and Dove was ok, but I could still smell it, so I stopped using it. I'm just pale year-round now and I've come to terms with that :P. Anyway, I might have to go smell this stuff just so I can have a laugh :). Have a good one!

The bronzing lotion I've used is Jergens Natural Glow and it has a slight "tanning" smell to it, but it's still sweet and decent. It doesn't streak on me either.

The Johnson and Johnson sounds so putrid and horrible! I'm so sorry you had that experience.. GRoss!

I hate the holiday skin aswell, although I haven't used the new one so I dont know what it smells like. Dove summer glow is a million times better! Just make sure you exfoliate your body really well before you apply.

I will not be trying this product haha. I use the Dove Summer Glow and it's a nice suttle tan, it doesn't leave me streaky though. I also recommend the Loreal sublime bronze one but I think it will definately really streaky. I've been hearing good things about the St.Tropez though....have you tried it?

I tried the Johnsons 'gradual' tan when it first came out.I t was bright orange and streaky. I tried it again quite a while afterwards as i thought i may of applied it poorly or something, but got the same result. I havn't even considered trying the new formulation after this. I've also tried the dove and nivea ones. The dove quite good and the nivea one seems probably the best I have tried and the scent is mild apricot / raisin .

I had the older formula and it smelt pretty bad but the new one sounds alot worse. I would recomend the L'oreal one (i think it is called something like Nutri-shimmer) Just put on my first application today. It is pretty good and not as orangey as some others I've tried. Also it smells pretty ok to me but it is quite strong.

ive had the johnsons, nivea and the dove summer glow. i think the dove is the best,, for me it didnt go on streaky and the colour looks natural on my skin. the nivea is horrible, it goes streaky and orange and johnsons actually made me sick cos of the smell, it truly 'stinks'

so yeah, the Dove Summer Glow is the best for me and i got it in medium to dark,, used it for the 1st time and theres defiatly a difference, i relly recomend it x

Lol, I am having the same issue with the Body Shop Summer Lotion. It gives the best colour but smells like cat pee, disguised (badly) with cocoa butter. YUCK.

Before that I used the Nivea Everyday Summer and the smell was quite nice.

I'm not sure if its a moisturising one but the saint tropez buildable fake tan is really good.. the smell is strange as it doesnt smell like regular fake tan but its not a bad smell:) love the videos, finally an Irish girl doing make up video:D:D:D

last time i used that,which was like 2-3 years ago, it stunk to high heaven of pee mixed with wet dog and b.o. NASTY stuff.

A really nice smelling gradual moisturising tanner is Avons skin so soft-soft & glow. Which can build a natural looking glowing tan after a few days.
