This is just a beautifully organic performance, perfect guitar playing and that angelic voice singing in a sneer. The lyrics always led me to believe the song is about Courtney Love, anyone else think so?
The album "A Few Small Repairs" is/was just brilliant, it really came out of nowhere amidst Nirvana, Soundgarden, and NIN. I love all those bands too, but this album is so "listenable" to me.
EVERY song is just painful and delightful, another reminder of the muscial greatness of the 90's.
Amazing, lovely, fresh...I could go on-this is a must have album in every music-philes library.
This is probably my favorite song on Repairs and reminds me very much of a friend I had at the time when I was listening to the this album alot in 1994. And I remember this performance was the first time I heard it when it was first broadcast on VH1. Shawn is one of the most fantastic female vocalists Ive ever heard.
I recently saw Shawn and John Hiatt in Red Bank New Jersey and loved it. I too am blown away by her talent both on guitar and her singing. I love her songs and choice of songs. A great talent!
Stumble upon lead me to a website that made me put my birth year. this is the that song that was released that year.

God, I swear it's good to be back home
Waiting for the newest rolling stone
All the other girls are still at war
The best and worst of 1994

Colvin did write this w/ Courtney Love in mind... I always thought so and then I read it in an interview where Colvin acknowledged it. :)

Such a personal song, yet I find myself relating to it so much as just a Jane Doe, so to speak. Beautiful and painful all at the same time...

I love this song. I like it when her songs are brooding or solemn. :-)

Sparky - wow, thank you so very much. I started seeing Shawn live in the late 80's. About 30 shows later, here I am...still blown away by her talent.
