  • JUST MISSED!!! "That'll Be The Day" just missed making the Billboard's Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 16 weeks in the Top 100 in 1976!!! {Of course we all know who took their version to No. 1 in 1957}

  • Is that David Sanborn on saw, and Waddy's solo is awesome, love it more than the studio version from "Hasten Down The Wind" album with the awesome Ethan Russell cover shot.

  • WOW!...I was there at the Summit for this concert! Unbelieveable! I remember her dress!...WOW!..Man I am SO glad you posted this! She's a national treasure as far as I am concerned and the fact that I was there for this very performance at the Summit in Houston is simply mind blowing! Thank you so much for posting this!

  • Her omission from the rock and roll hall of fame is criminal. Maybe those morons are confused because she mastered every form of pop music known, rock only one among them. Country, tejano, jazz standards, light opera. She didn't just sing 'em. She ruled them, every one. Let's see Lady Googoo cover Cole Porter, then Buddy Holly, then Flaco Jimenez, then Jagger/Richards. when pigs fly.

  • @slownoman Considering some of the people that are in the r-n-r hall of fame i can only guess that Linda is overqualified .

  • always the hot PARTY GIRL...

  • Is it true that Linda is not in the Rock Hall of Fame. That's a crime.

  • There were 2 sold out shows @ the Summit that day in Houston....

I was at both of them! Thanks for the memories!

  • Linda for Rock Hall of Fame! A major omission.

  • That blue Chinese dress really works for her. HOT HOT

  • She has always been one of my top five--the gal can sing anything with real passion. i cannot think of anyone today except mabye Winnona whose voice even comes close.

  • hot!

  • I think I saw this concert on HBO in the late seventies, wish they would release this stuff on DVD

  • Put her in her rightful place dammit!

    In The Hall of Fame!!!!!

Which Hall of Fame? Rock and Roll Hall of Fame AND Country Music Hall of Fame.

She deserves a spot in BOTH!

  • Cmon Waddy, wake up...

  • LINDA IS SEXY AND SLIM HERE!!! WHAT A FOX SHE WAS!!!! AND WHAT A VOICE !!!! THIS BITCH CAN SING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dannys2222

    WHY...is she a "bitch?"....whatever happened to....woman/broad/dame/chick/hottie?

  • @irishintellguy OR YUMMY/delicious/sexy/walking wet dream/ human viagra/ totally edible/ ect....

  • LINDA IS THE WORLDS GREATEST POP SINGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ah, yes. That was the days when talent counted for something, and when a woman could make it in the business without 8-page picture spreads shoving a set of D-cups in everybody's faces. Good times they were.

Linda just has to be the all time no. 1 in r'n'r. I can't remember anyone else with her kind of nerve and drive.

  • @NogoodMcUseless Oh !!!! Don't I LOVE your comment ! Yes, YES !! Last time I made a similar comment somewhere on YT, one person said I wld probably be shocked looking at the Venus D' Milo. They're so saturated w/ what you describe and worse, totally desensitized. I watach this woman and marvel. I had forgotten just how amazing her voice is. A couple of commenters have said things like "WHAT a set of pipes !! Love it.

  • I never thought I'd see the day when I picked a version of a song over that of Connie Francis, but in my view, this rendition of Linda outshines Connie's performance of this song.

  • @denidowi Connie who????? no way she could get close to this.

  • @01debrc You must be but a youngsterlol!

Fortunately, I had the benefit of both of these lovely girls during my prime.

As I say, Linda's versions of Holly quite outshine Connie's, but songs like "Together" and virtually every other song I've heard Connie tackle, no one seems to even 'touch' her performance.

  • @01debrc Connie Francis, top female singer fm about 1959. Little Italian girl with a monster voice, famous for her ballads mostly, a different era, but just as strong a voice. check her out. Who's Sorry Now was her first and biggest hit.

  • here's a good joke for you all. Linda Ronstadt VS Britney Spears... funny huh??

  • god bless linda

  • Stunning beauty, a voice like an angel, she is sexy and sweet too. What a terrific lady we have here a timeless clasic!

  • I'm sooo gonna sing this song!

  • that'll be the day when classic rock becomes popular again-i hope it will come soon

  • While Buddys version is my all-time fave song, this one is my favorite remake of TBTD

  • Fantastic

    God Bless you Linda

  • Did you have any other videos from this concert? JD Souther and Andrew Gold were with her that night at the Summit... I remember it well, February 1978.

  • Ich liebe Sie! Sie ist die Beste

  • Waddy sings perfect harmnony with his guitar♪

Sure I know Linda is Diva!

    Chinese dress fits her well.

  • Waddy!!!

  • Waddy... missed his haircut appointment..... many times! lol

  • Actually...Linda was filling in for Geena Davis in a movie when Geena went missing well...for a spell. Probably ventured off to buy tampons or something. You've heard of that...rite?

  • ummm,, no, I have not???

  • Someone let me know if this is right. I'm trying to remember (without digging thru all my old vinyl) her albums from the 70s Stone Ponies - Different Drum - 1969 Silk Purse - 1970 Linda Ronstadt - 1971 Hand sewn, Home grown - 1972 Don't Cry Now - 1973 Heart Like a Wheel - 1974 Prisoner in Disguise - 1975 Hasten Down the Wind - 1976 Simple Dreams - 1977 Back in the USA - 1978 Mad Love - 1980 And there were 2 "Greatest Hits" albums along the way.
  • Get Closer - 1982 (or '83?). Then I lose track as she left pop-rock for other music styles that don't interest me. The '90's saw Feels Like Home (folk/country) and We Ran (pop/rock) - both are quite good.

  • Linda Ronstadt Greatest Hits Volumes I & II - 1980

  • Even Emmylou Harris thought Linda had the best female voice. She's beautiful, although there's a lot more of Linda these days.

  • Being an old fart, this is one of the many shows I saw. It's The Summit, Houston , Tex. Like they say, Hell, I was there! Glen

  • Linda not being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a crime!

  • ain't that the DAMN truth!?

  • @martel732 I am in total agreement on that.

  • Gawd...I love this woman......!!!!!!

  • Linda brought it sassy and sexy.

  • The best female Rock singer ever!

  • I said it before and I'll say it again... Her Voice Is Awesome

  • I always love it when an artist does a cover version of a song, you always have that idiot that comments how it is not as good as the original...Jeez, just enjoy the song!!

  • She did That'll be the day better than Buddy Holly could've ever hoped to!

  • I love it when she grabs the mike and looks into the camera- strutting her stuff and sexy as hell!

  • that was in japan i have all this concert in an album

  • My God= = she is sooooooooo cute here!!! Lord have mercy!

  • Lovely Linda R...She can do no wrong by me

  • Linda Ronstadt is 50 times better than todays divas...this girl rocked her pretty little ass off!

  • Boy- that's the truth!

  • @NonStopRocker Am certainly with ye there, partnerLOL!

  • @NonStopRocker ...To say nothing of her killer looks!

  • Some people have criticized LR for not writing her own material. The counterarguement - look at the musicians who want to play with her: Sandborn, Waddy Waddell, The Eagles, Bonnie Raitt. The list goes on.

  • I agree. And what songs did Elvis and Sinatra write?

  • i miss the summit now its a church. Rox played some great games there some fine concerts as well

  • Bellissimo!

  • As a big Buddy Holly fan, I'd have to agree. If Buddy were alive today, I think he'd like this performance and Linda's recorded vesions of both his songs that she did.

  • As a fellow huge Holly fan id have to agree that this is the very best BH cover song EVER!

  • It just doesn't get any better'n THAT!

  • actually, it does.

  • how coreyray?

  • Buddy Holly and the Crickets, Linda is damn good, but for me, nothing beats the original.

  • Her voice is sooooooo cool!!!

Her voice sounds cool than the recent singer!

  • she sounds black

  • I like this song and her Voice!

This is in the LIVE, she is so nice!

    she has amazing voice!

Close your eyes and please just hear her voice! Feel it her voice!

  • sweetness

  • Has anyone attempted to update this song in the last 10 years?

  • Perfection can't be updated. If Buddy Holly were alive, I think he might agree with me!

  • Uh okay? That was soo not the answer I was looking for. I never said I was looking for perfection.. I just wanted to know if anyone else has covered it.

  • To the best of my knowledge it has not been covered since Linda did it. Hope this answer is more suitable.

  • Well JoJo did a cover for American Dreams. Hopethat's Helpful.

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • 5ft 2in of pure dynamite!...I want her!

  • i like that song

  • and it:

    "likes you too" ;)

    Super !!!! merci

  • Tasty morsel

  • It is a good performance, no doubt. I usually complain about the slow tempo of live performances when compared to the recorded version, her recorded version of this tune really is an under-appreciated, tight, rockin track. But again, this live performance is very good indeed.

  • What more could you ask for? A classic Buddy Holly tune, a tight, terrific band (including the great Waddy Watchel) and of course Linda, radiantly beautiful, in superb voice, and totally in command of the song and the stage. Fantastic performance.

  • Linda is about 5'2" tall.

  • you what they say

'good things come in small packages'! ;)

  • She is small or was back then(weight-wise).... And she is not tall, below average in height I'm sure.

  • I used to notice that every small bird have powerful voice. Linda is not that small but she has the power voice of small bird.

Anybody could tell me how tall is she? Just a curiousity.

  • Sure is Sanborn on sax, he played on the "Living in the USA" album, on the tracks -"Alison" and "Ooh Baby Baby".

  • That looks like David Sanborn on sax. Anyone knwo?--

    Bruce Deile

  • Grrreat!

  • Outstanding clip--Linda at the peak of her Seventies popularity!

  • linda ronstads could remake everyone else's stuff and i wouldn't care cuz she's da shiz!

  • I think the tempo drags just a little compared to the recorded version but a good performance no doubt.

And why none of this today? We have manufactured, all looks, little talent "artists" these days, plus there isn't much traditional rocknroll anymore.

Rap crap and slick video pop, plus electronically enhanced singer/dancers, that's why.

  • OFF DUH HOOK!!!

  • She's one of the best Holly performers!!!

    Love her!!!!

  • WOW!..why arent there any acts like this in rock and roll today?...what a powerhouse performer Linda was...awesome!

  • I swear I wish I was sitting on the front row when she sang this. Great looks - great singing, and great confidence singing - yep - she is da SHIT! That'll be the day when someone else kicks her off the throne - LOL!
