As far as Jeremy's rating system is concerned, this movie shoulda got an Awesometacular. I love this movie, and the fact the chars were street teenagers was the point that makes the movie click, to make unlikable then relatable. And It's the type unique creation big hollywood wouldn't even take, so it had to be independent, and given how incredible it's filmed, that's amazing. probably the best alien invasion SINCE Cloverfield.

This completely kicks SUPER 8's ass by a mile. This feels like the movie that Super 8 should have been. I really don't understand how you could dislike the characters by the end. That was one of the main aspects of the film in that we see them at their lowest point and then they change, learn, grow as kids, and we root for them and love their comraderie that they share. Plus, I loved the political aspect that they brought to the story. It felt like City Of God but with aliens

I don't see how u could Super 8 and attack the block and say that Super 8 was a better film. Super 8 was overlong, relied to heavily on nolstagia, had a pretty bad ending, and didn't have good creature design. Attack the Block was tighter had more focus and had real suspense since some of the kids die unlike Super 8 when u knew nothing was going to happen to the kids.

1.The characters in ATB are 'chavs', the most hated people in all the UK, and for very good reason. (ie: holding an innocent woman at knife-point)

2. Suspense cannot exist without empathetic characters, (ie: characters who DON'T mug innocent women at knife-point).

I think that much suspense is made with the characters (ie: the smokey hallway scene/ moses' epic final run) even though you cant relate in the mugging sense, you can relate to the characters in the sense that they are close friends and it sucks to see one of them get mauled to death.

At least it TRIES to change a character's introduction instead of the usual bullshit hollywood of trying to MAKE you like the characters. It's a different perspective and you begin to sympathise with the characters as you learn more about them.

the problem with this movie is not within the movie itself, it's in the audiences head. it's a full character-arc from a bunch of total assholes to damn faulty almost-heroes, with decent character development, decent OST, good acting and ACTUALLY ORIGINAL ALIEN DESIGN. and why folks get annoyed? they're annoyed because the director picked chavs/hoodies as main protagonists and they hate the type. nothing to do with the movie, but cant get past the fact that they're the kind of punks they hate

Dude, I'm getting sick of people bitching about what the main characters do in the first 5 minutes of the movie. Yes, they mugged a woman in the streets. It was not right for them to do that, but the invasion allowed the woman and the muggers to form an unlikely bond against a common enemy. The invasion became a transitional period. I've seen other movie characters do far worse things than this, haven't you ever seen From Dusk Till Dawn? Clockwork Orange? Think about it.
