I am a KSU alum (class of '95), and this is my favorite song from "Hair." There was a production in Fall '94 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of May 4 1970. It was that production that made me fall in love with this song. Your performance made me fall in love with it even more. Thanx for posting it.
Beautifull voice, and lovely smile, shines and sparkles happiness. Keep singing and wear that glow every where you go, the vibs of this earth needs sunshine that you shine forth.
This song means the world to me, and (sorry about that) am in love with the movie version (also sorry I can't name the singer), not Shelley Plimpton's original Brodway cast historic rendering...
Lara Mainier instantly riveted me. I certainly hope she gets noticed. What an incredible smile ...and, mostly, what a talent!
This song, like any good folk song, tells its story within the song itself so its placement in the show is not so much the important part. Her man, like so many others, has disappeared in the days when a forceful draft was sweeping the nation. This poor little flower child is searching for the boy we as the audience are able to know was sent off to war and is probably already dead...making the seemingly simple song incredibly complex.
The song is sung by "Chrissy"-one of the featured members of the "Tribe." Though originally sung by Shelly Plimpton, the role and the song launched the career of the brilliant Actress/Rock Icon, Annie Golden- of "Xanadu", "The Full Monty" and the original "Squeaky" in "Assassins".Golden played Chrissy in film version and sang the cut "Frank Mills" She recently performed the song in the 2004 Actors' Fund Benefit performance and recording of Hair.
Having seen Hair too many times too count. And if your performance is any relection I am sad I didn't drive over to see your production. Your perfomance is cute, hopefull, playful and beautifull everything it's supposed to be. If you have anymore we would love to see 'em.
She's perfect, I love it so much.

It's good I just don't think a character voice is right for this song...

I didn't think she had a character voice
just a higher pitched voice
I think it's adorable :)

Can someone please tell me where this comes in the story? I'd really appreciate it coz I love this song!
And sadly, Hair hasn't been performed prefessionally in the UK in my lifetime! (that I know of)
Mungojerriestar 4 years ago
It doesn't really come into the story....it's just a song that one of the minor characters sings.

It was on at the Gate Theatre in London two years ago and it was sensational.

Can someone let me know which character sings this? I just got the movie CD and the song is on it and is great. It was cut from the film though.
thanks

The Original Frank Mills was Sung by Shelly Plimpton who played Chrissy in the original Cast. To me a very captivating song and performance.
