Hmmm... I think that letting too much time go by before trying to make contact could be a mistake. It's foolish to think the ex is going to wait ad infinitum without moving on. Holding on to one's pride and not making contact could be the killer blow to the relationship, no? Making contact without fawning, in my opinion, is better than just letting things drift apart further and making matters worse.
