Long live rock n' roll!
i didnt know this song till i sow this live and a few second after he start to play the melody...i started to cry...to say " i love this song" is very simple but " i love this song"...
@ElKardz1 listen to the composition of this song. smooth and chilly at the beginning. But you can at every point feel the crescendo he's doing during the whole song. Instrument for Instrument joins this song by the time. can you feel the emotion he's trying to show? I'm sure you can't!
the crescendo starts very slowly at the around third minute, and it's rising and rising till the absolute eargasm while his big solo at 6:40.
and you wanna tell me a creator of this is overrated? go die off!
This version is great, how could I disagree. And only few artists in the world are able to come even close to the emotional density of the perfect moment when they originally recorded their song way back in the studio. Nevertheless I still prefer the more quiet fragile atmosphere of the studio version. Especially the ending of the live version is a little too much in my opinion. Growing this loud is just a bit over the top for me. Less would have been more here...
@DavidCasper .. hmmm... It must have been a song from the Creme days that sounded similar. Yes, I do remember the Wonderful Tonight song and Layla. It was a Wonderful time.
guitar clinic a good player could spend a lifetime studying and never master. It is easy to see why Eric was called God even in the company of Beck, Jimi and Carlos.
A much better song than anything else Clapton has done in the last 20 years. This should be as popular as anything he has ever done. This is the kind of heartfelt, soulfful song you can't hear in today's cookie-cutter mainstream music scene.
No gimmicks or bullcrap here, just pure soul and feeling.
Yes: There is a DVD of this and a live CD. Both releases are called "One More Car, One More Rider!" - so named after a popular customer call on English Fairgrounds to entice a customer to take the last empty space on an amusement ride, a Dodgem Car for example.
@ tman4u2: The "old guy" on drums is top-call Steve Gadd - one of the world's finest.
Beautiful song... I got to slow dance to this song with the Love of my Life back in '76. Didn't want to realize it back then... How prophetic the song would be.
The old man playing drums makes this one work - and Clarton would be the first to admit it. Then you got Billy Preston - forget about it! This is Clapton's favorite kind of tune. He can feel like a sideman even when he isn't!
DIOS TE TENGA EN LA GLORIA BILLY PRESTON LE DISTE EN ESE CONSIERTO TU MEJOR MANERA DE VER EN ESA CANCION EN MI MAYOR ADMIRACION Y DARLE AL ROCK EL PUESTO QUE SE MERECE.POR SIEMPRE Y PARASIEMPRE.
A GREAT ERIC CLAPTON, fabulous music, stuning sound (thanks Robert Collins engineer of Concert Sound of London and JBL VERTEC line array state of the art sound system) at the organ HAMMOND B3 (a real B3 on stage) Billy Preston.. still a fine player!
@kokobirra : This is from the "One More Car, One More Rider" dvd/cd and was shot in Los Angeles. By far the best performance of this song when compared to the others on YouTube.
This is the best live version of this song. The singing, the playing, the solos, the musicians on stage (Eric, Gadd, Preston, East, Fairweather-Low) and the perfect audience :)
@leozingy Totally agree, this is the best version I have heard so far. Tears my heart out every time, so much talent and emotion in one package. And what a legacy the incomparable Billy Preston leaves us behind - may he Rest In Peace. Incredible
Incredible...just incredible. I had listened to this performance before and I found it absolutely stunning, but now I've seen this video of the song and "rivers of tears" have run down my face because of the beauty of the song itself and... damn! they put all their soul into it!!!
The DVD One More Car One More Rider was the first DVD I bought after getting my 5.1 surrond sound system. do yourself a favor and get the DVD and listen in 5.1.
I wonder what the modern day rock and pop stars think of their place in the greater scheme of musical excellence after watching this? 6 monster talents like these come rarely, and all on stage at the same time. You don't get goose bumps, you don't get it.
What makes our hearts beating? What makes our eyes and legs shaking every time we listen to it? Buddies, may is Billy Preston moving his magic fingers upon that fuckin hammond?May is Steve Gadd with his fantastic touch on that drums?Or may is Eric Clapton building a fantastic solo on a fantastic song he wrote himself?Really I cannot give you the answer you're searching. But I feel a shiver on my back EVERY TIME I listen to this song and I think that is the music, only language everybody speaks.
If you like the sound of the guitar(who wouldn't) just get a clapton signature strat, a fender tube amp and an ibanez ts808 tube screamer. you don't really need the tube screamer because of the midboost system in the guitar but it does sound nice :)
all right. but the song itself was on "pilgrim" first which was released in 1998. "one more..." was in 2002. this gig has to be off the "one more.." dvd then.
You are right, it first appeared on Pilgrim, where it, like everything else on the album, was so lam, unemotional ... Eric + computer ... give me a break ... this version from One More Car, One More Rider, is the real Eric, great playing, great singing, real emotion
Eric Clapton is a fantastic guitarist/musician, one of the best of all time. This is the best version of this song he's done, I never get tired of listening to it! Being such a great musician allows him to have the most talented group of guys in his band. Everyone of them is outstanding!!!
It's such a shame Billy Preston passed away he was a talent the likes of which you won't soon see again. RIP Billy.
I have this show on DVD. It features Billy Preston prominently. There is a great version of "Will It Go 'Round In Circles" on the DVD that you HAVE to see. Nathan East is simply the best too.
Man Clapton, Preston and Gadd are amazing in this. The emotions they show are just unreal. Look at Gadd at 6:40 , 7:30 , 7:44 and 8:09. He really works the drums. Also great work on the cymbals. Beautiful solo by Preston and as ever Clapton takes it to a standard that no one else could with an absolutely magnificent solo which brings out the superbly.
This song is from the live cd "one more car one more rider". The dvd is even better - they replaced some of the tracks on the dvd and I just don't get it =P but still a super fantastic cd
