I notice that your kitty speaks with a slight British accent and is definitely more cultured in his mannerisms than my street smart bonsai panther, Bagheera, who grew up on the streets of L.A. (actually I think it was someone's back yard, but it was L.A.). Through 6 long weeks of total immersion prior to becoming a pulchritudinous pampered panther pet, Bagheera taught himself to speak basic American Avian (AKA Bird English) along with many local dialects, his favorite being Lepidopteran (moth).
Lest you think the high life has made Bagheera lazy, note that the bonsai panther continues his linguistic pursuits. In addition to his physical training program, he has been attempting to teach his human companions how to fetch. He also leads quite an active social life. Yet, in between tag-team wrestling, tight rope walking performances & advanced canine diplomacy, he's managed to pick up a little Apian from a family of Apis Mellifera, before they were evicted under local squatting statutes.
@IThinkISeeADoughnut Meesha has trouble rolling his tongue, so he abandoned American Avian early in his studies. He decided to take another route and learn Northern Orthoptera (grasshoppers and crickets) so that he could produce the calls of these little critters and lure the birds to him.
@IThinkISeeADoughnut Of course, as brilliant as this plan was, his skills in the art of camouflage are wanting. He still stands in front of an open window in plain site. Since he never learned how to speak American Avian, he mistakes the laughter and mockery from the birds as interest and desire.
@kittycatbliss Your cat and I were old frat buddies at the old animal house. He spent most of his time making cat calls at the siamese kittens rooming next to us, mostly during camouflage class. So, yes, his skills are lacking there,
Thats Adorable! What type of cat is that? I have 2 kittens and one looks just like that but they were found in an abandoned car so we're not sure what breed they are.
they are just extremely excited. It's their natural hunter instinct taking over. Those birds look sooooo tasty. He just want to hunt this bird. Cats are very good at it.
all cats do this as far I am aware. it's disputed what the cause is among vets and other specialists--some say that the cat is annoyed, others say that just as their feline ancestors mimicked snakes to learn how to hiss and intimidate, they also learned to mimic bird sounds to mesmerize and lure their prey.
Correct me if I'm wrong people but i think that's the sound cats make when they are stalking something or want to eat whatever they are looking at. I don't really know that, but i heard a cat in another video that was hunting a moth make a similar noise. Again, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not certain.
My cat does the exact same thing when she sees a bird. I was playing this video while she was sitting on my lap and she got up and started sniffing at the screen.
Aw! He's cackling! A knee-jerk, rapid fire instinctive jaw reaction when a cat sees a bird! Cute! He does it so he can crack the birdies neck and eat him! Nummy nums!
@TheSunnyToMe It's funny that you mention Meesha's name I never gave an explanation as to why I named him this. You're right Meesha is a Russian name. But originally his name was Meshach (which means guest of the king in Hebrew). I named him after a cat my piano teacher had when I was a little girl. But we kind of shortened it to Meesha. I spell his name phonetically so that people will be able to pronounce it easily. And to answer you're question, we're American. :)
My sister's cat Faith used to chitter at the birds and squirrels all the time, but she was a stray who used to eat with her paws like a racoon, so I wouldn't put it past her if she actually was talking to them.
It is completely normal for kittens to do this, they are trying to learn how to make birds sounds so they can trick birds into not flying away and then get them! Cute kitties.
my cat rykie is very much the same as meesha....he loves to play with his stuffed monkey named ryko...didn't let anyone touch it...if he sees us with it he'll definitely take it back...then sometimes he hide it for weeks and when we ask him where's ryko moments later its just there beside him..and he also love sitting by the window and with this same voice but longer vibration.....very cute....but everytime i decided to capture it on video he'll stop....
I had a cat who did this everytime there was a little flying insect around the ceiling light. I had to turn off the light and bring a lamp to the floor so the insect came lower he can catch it and eati it or else she would mew at me so loud nonstop.
My old cat, Baby, used to make this noise at bird all the time. She passed it on to my brothers kitten, The Cheat, who makes it at us when we sneeze, as if to say God Bless.
