He is a crappy drummer and is ruled by Steven. He will never be a "Neil Peart or Alex Van Halen". I bumped into him in Montreal and he turned out to be a perfect classless unfriendly asshole. This guy has a problem and his book sucks. Grow up Joey.
@theunknowndrunk Yeah, tom hamilton is probably one of the nicest people i've ever had the pleasure of meeting! As was Steven and even Brad was friendly! Joey Kramer was aloof and didn't say much, but he signed my tee and gave me a free signed copy of his book - which is just quite alot of whinging and whining on paper!
This is lame, much of the sounds are pre-recorded. I met Joey Kramer when he warmed up in my studio before a gig and he was one of the biggest assholes I've ever met in the business. He was so rude to his roadie, etc. I asked if he could just sign my drum heads after he was done and he looked at me like I was something he stepped in. I left and when he was done the sharpie was on the floor, no autograph, no class. On the flip side, Tom Hamilton was the nicest coolest guy you'd ever want to meet.
Drums is not a race, is not "speed" (wow he´s so fast! ... bullshit). Drums is rhythm, technic and feeling! Joey is one of the best drummers in the WORLD!
I don´t really think you can call it a "drum solo" It´s just a little grooving before walk this way. They´re usually doing it. Sometimes Joey is making grooves. Sometimes Joe is scratching bullshit on the guitar. They´re a band, they´re humans and not studied machines like Simon Phillips or John Petrucci. None of them is a solo musicians. .. The whole shit is fucking awesome not only one person. Aerosmith rules!
One other thing, since i couldn't put it all in one comment. Considering the band used to MAKE him do solos and he didnt want to should tell anyone enough, cause that only means back when he threw down hard on what ive heard, he probably wouldn't even doing all he could do.
Seriously, Kramer IS underrated. If you go back and find some bootlegs of Aerosmith from the 70s, it'll make any drummer say "WTF?" The thing that makes Kramer the top drummer, in my opinion of course, is that I've heard some of the stuff he can do, he could blow just about any drummer out of the water, but he doesnt flaunt it and want to show off, he plays what he feels. That's why Aerosmith will always rule, it's not about being the best, it's about doing what you love.
@radpcdrums He's might better than you think. Sure, there are plenty of drummers out there who are better than Kramer, but he is skilled and precise to say the least. Some of his drum solos from the 90's are kind of impressive, but overall a bit above average. A damn good drummer and very underrated. Deserves a bit more credit.
Oh yeah, and I met him, and asked him what his warm up routine was like, and he said it was the first few songs, sure enough he dropped a total of three sticks in the first minutes of the show!! He should of warmed up properly, but in the end looked like an ass!
@NickNoRtHeRnLiGhTs Since you say that, it shows how stupid you are. If you don't understand how amazing this man is, you don't know drumming. He's increadibly talented, and one of my many influences...if only you knew how great he was.
Sometimes less is more and in this case it worked. Just because he isn't flinging is arms all over the place and beating his drums to death like Travis Barker or he isn't playing a blistering double bass at 1,000 bpm doesn't mean this is crap. This is Joeys' style...either you like it or you don't. If you haters don't like the way he plays then don't watch him, it's just that simple.
@DCussen I wouldn't say that's a drum solo, more or less a little jam to keep the audience alive while the rest of the group gets ready for the next song. It's an effective intermission that worked pretty well considering the crowd is dancing. Kramer has done better than that.
yukansuggit@ you know what? try to listen again and try to play like he do it when your about 50 years old! he,s like one of my biggest idols,s and you dare to throw dirt in hes face???just dig your own grave and jump down in it if you dont respekt other people!
Joey is deffinetly one of my favourite drummers, he's one of the people who have inspired me even more to start up a band, I saw them in June and he was totally tight and in the zone, amazing concert :D

This really isn't an impressive drum "solo". I wouldn't even classify this as a drum solo at all. there are a few moments (about 2) that I thought something he did was cool. Kramer can hold a very solid meter, but frankly, I've never been impressed with him. He has no speed. He's barely stylistic, and his "solos" consist of simple 4/4 rhythms with extra cowbell. Calling Kramer a great drummer is like saying Joe Perry is an awesome guitarist.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That really didn't sound all that awesome. Not even a little bit. Jacob Armen could outplay him when he was 12. Tony Royster Jr the same. It doesn't have to be complicated. It just needs to be tight and verbose. Use the entire drum set and lay down some grooves all across the kit. not just focus on cowbell and snare. That's boring and mundane. I've seen drummers who were of mediocre skill on here play a LOT better than what Kramer does.
This solo has a very catchy redundancy that keeps a good amount of variety in his playing here. How you cannot see that is beyond me. Although there are many drummers that can beat this particular solo, some drummers will have a very hard time doing Kramer's other material. Again, check out his other stuff. He's way better than you think.
and it's the redundancy that kills it for me. Okay.. I see what you are doing. Now, show me something different. Better yet, show me something new and innovative. I did watch several other videos, and saw one where he actually was pulling out some crossovers, which did sound pretty cool. But one video out of the 5 or 6 that I watched. And again, I point to his 30 or so year career where I was never very impressed. His playing just vanishes to the backdrop with no shine or gloss.
I dont' see how you don't find this stylish or anything. Can't you tell everyone's dancing to it? I get what you're saying and in certain perspective you're right. But, here's the catch in this solo. This solo was done in order to give the rest of the band time to tune, check, etc.... While Joe, Tom, and Brad were doing their thing, Joey decided to keep the energy flowing through the crowd. Nothing stunning, but definitely something likable. And again, his other solo's display great skill.
Some drummers can play all the fancy shit you're looking for but choose not to. Kramer is one of them. I used to play in an Aerosmith tribute band and when it came to doing a solo I would do just what you would have been impressed by but it was the only thing I did out of character and then after watching Kramer drum solo videos I decided to tone it down because it was sounding too technical. It;s the same as the beats he plays in the songs; it's what fits the music that counts.
Did you know that Steve Ferrone played on an Aerosmith album because Joey Kramer couldn't do it? When all was said and done Aerosmith had Kramer come in and re-record all the drum tracks. What that tells me is that Kramer plays what's right for the music like any good drummer should. Right now I play in a band that plays a lot of Rush, Zeppelin, Yes, Kansas, etc...so I get to stretch a bit. Most very technical drum solos bore the crap out of me because I can do all that stuff. I prefer muicality
4) Switches between certain difficulties when it comes to what is being played.
5) Not a soundcheck.
Look up Kramer's drum solo in 1994 (I think that's the year). You need to review this video a lot more. There are certain speeds and very stylish beats in here! And Joey Kramer IS a great drummer. And Joe Perry has immense skill on the guitar. He beats Slash! (Although Slash is over credited)
@YodaVanGrindey95 Yes he owns. The guitarist that owns everyone is Jimmy Page. Hell, Eddie is heavily influenced by Page. It's because Jimmy Page is the best guitarist to ever walk this earth.
Nothing to really point out on Joey's side because he is just awesome period. I thought it would be funny to point out the whole Steven Tyler kicking ball thing. I had like 3 friends of mine see the video and the same dumb question came from the video. "Is that a bubble he kicked?"
Hey dontplayformenero, can certainly understand why you say you are not a great drummer. This was not so much as a spotlight solo but a lead into Walk this Way. All solo's don't require a demonstration of all the chops you have in your repitoire - as in this case. Believe it or not, some solo's, as simple and basic as this, are harder to phrase and play so it actually 'fits' the upcoming segue..........Joey's got chops all day long, I'm sure enough to impress even you.
This solo in particular isn't insanely hard but it is not easy either. The hardest technique used in this solo was an intermediate based split coordination. Although most of it was house rock beats, some skill was thrown in this solo but not even CLOSE to what Joey Kramer can actually do. This was a little playful skit compared to Joey K.'s real talent. Don't doubt this guy's skill, watch some of his other solos.
I've heard and seen it all. =) His drumming is very rhythmic and professionally composed and coherant. A true legend. I want to see them in concert so bad but I didn't have the money because our economy is doing so well! (sarcasm)
lol chea i loved putting the annotations in because I wanted to make this kinda funny. But hell yeah man Aerosmith fucking rocks the world and I'm glad to know there are more rockers out there than the pathetic ones that listen to sucky ass bands like Slipknot and Korn. Aerosmith is rock!

lol chea i loved putting the annotations in because I wanted to make this kinda funny. But hell yeah man Aerosmith fucking rocks the world and I'm glad to know there are more rockers out there than the pathetic ones that listen to sucky ass bands like Slipknot and Korn. Aerosmith is rock!
