that is insane, the last part in amazingly fast :D and just for the record if i saw a guy doing that with a stick i would think not twice but like 10 times extra before attacking him, so i guess it can prevent combat :)
@billy199733412 and sparky3489 what i say is that children must train hard, and each day harder than the previous, but martial arts include a part of philosophy and a ten y-o child can not assume that knowless, they have enough time to become a black belt and to be great masters. That's why i think that children can not be black belts, because they're NOT at the same level as adult black belts
i have to agree with swseibukan, it is very hard to apply these fancy moves to actual combat. Im not saying that anyone is going to use a bo to fight today, but looking at it traditionaly, spinning and twirling the bo has no or little effect at all
What everyone of you fails to understand is that these moves have absolutely nothing to do with combat applications, this is for show. This for competition katas in the extreme or creative divisions. Everyone of you is trying to make it sound like you know everything and you keep missing the point this is not combat and no where does it claim to be so please stop stating the obvious and trying to make yourselves feel superior to this person.
Ah, what science would that be. My neice does the same thing but she wears a leotard and marches with the band. This is not kobudo it is baton twirling.
Actually, except for the part where he throws it up in the air, it is. All though this is basic stuff, I presume this DVD is for beginners and most beginners are kids. On a side note baton twirling, according to wikipedia, started in Eastern Europe and Asia. So perhaps some of baton twirling is based off of and developed from bo staff moves?
Actually, including the toss in the air, it's baton twirling. This is not kobudo, it is XMA showmanship that should in no way be confused with martial arts. By the way bo staff is like saying he is wearing a obi belt( they mean the same thing).
Crazy because I think that crap like this does a disservice to the serious martial arts community. Look the kid has skills but they are better suited to freestyle gymnastics than martial arts. But I do see where youre coming from, you being a LARPer this kind of performance fits right into to your fantasy view of the martial arts.
There's a point where people can't get any better with the traditional strikes and need some flash for the forms/performance divisions.
I agree that there are some who use too much flash and it doesn't quite have the essence of martial arts, but that doesn't mean that all flash should be eliminated.
Those who think that are limited in their own capabilities and imagination.
I'd like to see his: "My first LightSaber movie"!

@MrGuachipei have the children of your dojo crush your nuts. It's an art form you tool. Why don't you go wrestle the bald-headed champion.

Trying being the keyword.
He's just a kid, and he's one of the best bo stylists and free-formers in the world.
I agree with Karatevideoguy.
A disservice to the martial arts community? Shut up, swseibukan.
He's taken knowledge of the martial arts and adapted it to suit him, which is what martial arts is about.
Retard.
