It's just upscaled 1080i. Sorta like dvd player upscalers. Doesn't really improve much.

Strange though why polyphony included 1080i. The ps2 had only 4mb vram and even upscaling will take away what little ram the ps2 had.

@iloveyervideos - Yeah those wavy lines are normal generally speaking. If you look at most discs they have those lines. It's from the forming process. The plastic is liquid when it starts out and is spun outwards. Then the data layer is put on and finally the disc is sealed again. Check out this video: watch?v=O3FQzwNzUE4

@iloveyervideos - Yeah the disc still works. I think maybe the scratches are too deep in your disc and the drive may be having a hard time reading it. I always keep the discs in their cases at all times, if not in the machine itself. That's one way to save yourself the headache. I'm not sure why you have so many version of the same game, but again i'd suggest keeping the games in their cases unless you're using them. Might help keep them from getting scratched. Hope this helps!

the great tip for this game is that Nissan championship (i dont know which one) that gives u a nice and expensive selling car, and do that many times, so that u have a few millions in cash around the week 640-650... in those weeks there is (i dont remember well) something like a black week, where there are two really expensive, fast and unique cars, to sell, for about 6 million dollars.

@youtubasoarus Yeah, somethinglike this. If you want a racing game just to have fun, get Burnout or some Need for Speed game. Gran Turismo could be casual on ps1, but got hardcore after GT3. Even if you finish the game, you don't get any final movie clip or something that could make you spend half-year playing the whole game worth.

@brutaka359 It's a driving simulator so it isn't your average racing game, this is one where you go out and get the steering wheel and pedals for. It's more for the experience than the fun, it's still enjoyable. If you are getting into the series wait for Gran Turismo 5 (not prologue) and see if you want to continue with the accessories.

I heard that as well. But I'm more inclined to believe it was a technical limitation. They were pushing a lot of eye candy in that game, and I think pushing the PS2 to its limits. Additional computation cycles for realistic damage would have crippled the system (or resulted in a significantly diminished frame rate). That's my guess.

I had a PS2 before I started to collect and I usually only had one console at a time. I had a Game Cube, sold it, bought a PS2 pretty much just for GT4, but after I got sick of GT4 I sold it to buy a modded xbox lol. I did that ever since my NES, sold it to get an SNES, sold that to get a PS1! I didn't start collecting this stuff until 3-4 years ago when I starting finding stuff like the Sega Genesis. Then it started!
