Same sex marriage is not legal in France. There is something called PACS which is some sort of civil partnership. The rights you get are different from an actual marriage. Some straight people use it actually. So I guess it's the same than in UK, right ?
In New York and District of Columbia (Washington, DC), they recognize same-sex marriage and civil unions from foreign nations, and other States . I believe Israel and France do as well.
There are lots of other ways that you can obtain the rights traditionally provided by marriage. You can have joint bank accounts and you can have mutual powers of attorney over one another in case of accidents - and there are lots of other options. Some LGBT organizations offer legal advice on these options.
