Echidna: they are brown. so it didn't work for me. I did figure out what was happening at the point of adding the two numbers together, it always equals nine. It is pretty clever though, the majority will think of Denmark, and I'll admit that elephant came first but i had to stop and think because I knew the majority would choose that.

If you multiply the number by 9, the two digits are always going to add up to 9, minus 5 is 4 duh, and the only country that begins with the letter D is Denmark. The only mammal that begins with the letter E (5th letter) is elephant. Obviously, elephants are grey. This trick doesn't work if people don't know that any other geographical name that begins with a letter D is not a country, or if they think Emu is a mammal, or if they suck at math.
