The Canon T2i is a good camera. WIth the kit lens and a good 50mm f/1.8 lens, you'll end up spending around $1000. The only downside, is you have no xlr audio inputs, so you'll have to use a 3.5mm audio jack, but there are a fair amount of quality mics that are built for that connection.
I use a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 that I got from Amazon. The FZ40 and FZ100 are similar. If you check out my videos, the only ones shot with this camera are Parish Picnic and Brigadoon. And Brigadoon was shot from the back of a theater using the zoom and built in mics. I always leave it set on IntelligentAuto, so all I did was focus, although you can set the camera manually if you want to. This is a superzoom/bridge camera that will accept some lenses and filters, but is not actually an SLR.
As a viewer I notice some YouTubers which make videos of good technical quality. Maybe you could ask them what camera they are using. Three of them are: shep689 (watch his video "Our Island Experience"), dudeneedaeasonup (he says on his profile page that he is using a Canon 60D), and markmywords09.
Btw: A popular fallacy of many YouTubers is, that uploading a video in HQ (720p or 1020p) increases the video's technical quality in any case. Actually this can't compensate a bad camera though.
@ab0kanal (cont) Uploading a blurry video (filmed with a bad camera) in HQ just increases the file size and upload time of the video - it doesn't increase the picture quality. On the other hand I have seen a lot of just SD quality videos in 480p resolution, which had been filmed with a good camera and looked stunning. The quality of the camera is the determining link of the chain!
@ab0kanal (cont) Additionally I'd like to mention, that due to physical/technical reasons good lighting is required for good picture quality. Insufficient lighting (i. e. darkness) adds extra "noise" to the picture. Even an excellent camera can't produce a brilliant picture when the scenery lacks light.
@ab0kanal I just remembered, that YouTuber 'Guru' seems to have a good camera too. Check out his videos, for instance this one: /watch?v=St_b7_ZxDg0 (entitled 'Gayspiration and answers!').
A lot of vloggers do question and answer videos and answer questions about their camera. A lot of people tend to use Canon and Sony cameras thogh Iwouldn't know much about it.
If you dont mind me asking Jack, what kind of camera are you using right now, this picture is really great...
