The flu virus has two proteins on its surface: hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N). There are different forms of these proteins in different strains of influenza virus due to mutations.

So, this swine flu has the H1 and N1 forms of the proteins on its surface. Which means -- it is not a "random stretch of letters and numbers."
