He's got some kind of weird mix of pretty good and pretty bad, here. Most of his cheeses and just anything involving flams sounded fucking good, except toward the end when everything started getting buzzy.
Wow....so much better than second place. Like no comparison. Like I can't believe anyone would even begin to state the guy that got second place should have won. His solo looked like a fuckin seizure, I couldn't make out any of the rhythms he was playing because they were so badly executed. This guy played coherently and even though he failed at some of the harder visuals, he executed most of his notes pretty damn well and played some decently hard shit. Specially for a highschooler.
@SweetWilly013 actually he's an upperclassmen at South Carolina State University. he is on their drumline. look up SCSU Bongo Brothers 2010. he should be in any of those vids.
@asugyrl omg! i learned how to do dat at one of bcu's practices, ive never seen it on a vid til now doh. but das exactly wat i said wen i saw dude do it n i made him teach me lol i cant do as fast doh
his open close double stroke is garbage. it sounds good fast but he has no transition. its just slow and jumps to fast. there has to be a medium. his solo isnt bad though once he started playing stuff that required fundamentals and not just tricks
. This is the one video where ive seen so much racial bashing out of any drumline video out there. Simply because this drumline does this, and this drumline does something different. I think we should learn to mature and appreciate both styles of drumlines. Both are extremely differenbt because each focus on different things. Seriously? Grow up.
@JAMTBG im sure that everyone knows there two DIFFERENT styls of drumming but what most seem to be arguing about is which is better and that actually has a finite answer so the cause for the arguing is as both of us see it unnecisary
Oh my god. All of you shut up. When did youtube become a place to racially bash eachother. Just unplug for one day. Stop crying about having your history "stolen" and create a new one. Lesson Finished.....
@Luckyjasondrum It became a place for racial bashing the minute whites called first blood. Stop telling black people what to do. You steal every damned thing we create, even today and later claim it as your own. Lesson just began, crakka.
@ddsharper It is people like you that have made youtube the racist cesspool that it is. I made a comment about the poor intelect of idiots and you accused me of being a racist? That, in itself, is racist........... Lesson Finished...........
god this competition is a fucking joke. all it is is seeing how many bullshit visuals you can cram into a half-assed solo. southern drumlines just straight up blow
It wasn't bad. But the biggest issue was the fact that there was never any real coherent rhythem. I understand that a solo is for showing what you can do but this is just like expecting to win an essay contest by saying completly incoherent big words. Some IMPRESSIVE big words, but totally incoherent.
yea dude every fucking white persons gonna copy a black. an your prolly gonna say "wow racist" no dude... im nowhere near racist. i just thinks it total bullshit that youd even say that dude. some of the best drummers are white and some of the best are black. its not like a white man never came up with a technique and blacks did all the work or just because they played when they were slaves or something. ive heard alot of ppl saying ya blacks made drumming. thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard
@ddsharper haha. idc dude. i done forgot about this shit that was over a month ago when i posted that. just one question does your name have anything to do with darren sharper.
@papertowelzftw123 it may be the dumbest but it's true. africans were forbidden to play the drums when they were brought over here. europeans that traveled to africa in the 16th century and earlier brought the whole concept back to europe.
I do not believe in white people judging blacks in any art that blacks create; we are the well from which the world drinks and copies. sorry. that's my take on it.
@ddsharper One could argue, however, that marching percussion as a whole, regardless of high school or college, black or white, has its roots in and therefore emulates drum and bugle corps. For better or for worse, that is the the yardstick by which we are measured.
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Yes, I agree. The specific innovations of blacks however are ignored in history and we clamor to get history straight. I am not referring to the marching band per Se but this aspect of it. watch?v=heaV1d2LkAg&feature=related
@ddsharper another question: does it really matter the color of the person who made said innovations? ive been judged by ralph hardimon and dennis delucia in the same season. both great drummers, both innovators, both living legends.u really think neone cares that one is black n one is white?
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr- Yes, it matters. Constant mention of color with resp. 2 so-called crime stats, TV shows on black america, black men shot unarmed by cops & other blacks, locked up, single black mothers always mentioned. But, when it comes to our innovations-gospel, jazz, big band, &dance,to our creations, & our writings, people ask, does color really matter? Yes, it matters to America, to the world but most of all, when our accomplishments are left out of historical record, it matters to us.
@ddsharper i agree w/ you on the first part in that mention of color in those negative instances is unnecessary and in bad taste at best, prejudicial at worst. but with regards to specific area of rudimental marching percussion, its been changed and contibuted to by hundreds of unnamed people, male, female, black, white, w/e. im talkin bout the writers/arrangers, instructors, and players, including you and me. we all move it forwad as an art.
@ddsharper I agree but as far as musical talent and art forms i think it shouldn't matter whether your black or white. I think we live in a time where racism shouldn't affect us anymore. But people always bring it up in situations that shouldn't even matter what color you are.
@Diachi26 Has racism ever affected you? Well it is alive and well and growing today. As far as musical talent, let me enlighten you. We are not Europeans, whose histories are blasted constantly from classrooms to pulpits, from universities to prisons, from television to movies. Everything is European; not Asian but we know there is China, with their history and culture. Not Japan, but we know they have their own history, and so forth. But in America, it's all white culture and everyone else
@Diachi26 gets excluded. Well Black Americans have a history, A history that began before America, and one that traversed the entire history of this nation. That history is important to US.that history helped build this country. That history had soldiers dying, doctors practicing and musicians creating. Those musicians created spirituals, gospel, ragtime, blues, jazz, soul and R&B. that history created dance, from the cakewalk, jitterbug and charleston to the twist, lock and popping.
@Diachi26 When no white universities would admit blacks, we built our own universities and schools. When blacks were not allowed to learn to read, we still studied and wrote documents that changed america. In our schools we created art forms and one of them was the drumline. That is importand to us and to those who started it all for all of our creations and innovations are eventually claimed by the European. That is just a sliver of black history.
@Diachi26 You cannot decide when we bring up race. You people love to bring up crime stats, IQ tests, ignore police shootings and other disparaging remarks about blacks to make yourselves seem so superior. When blacks bring up the fact that from rap to ragtime, the whole world imitates and profits from our well, as they themselves drink. we are not supposed to bring it up. Well, guess what. You don't own us; our minds, spirits or free wills. We KNOW what we do and what we have done.
@Diachi26 Thus I will shout from the mountain tops about real black history and keep the record straight. You have no say in it; you are not the boss of me or anyone else. this is the situation that matters. Our accomplishments and achievements and contributions to the world.
@ddsharper Dude I'm black. It shouldn't matter what color you are, just the type of person you are. No matter what achievements you made you shouldn't be just known for just your color. Its the person who decided to make that achievement period that makes that person great. You do what God put you on this earth to do, to make a difference, bring people closer to God. History is what it is, history, the only thing important about it is to do something different, whether good or bad.
@Diachi26 First of all, you are NOT black. Black people don't write, think or talk like this. Why are so many white people pretending to be black on the internet and particularly on youtube. Black people don't need advice from whites. We know what time it is. White supremacists are the ones you need to address. What history we have is important to US since it was stolen by whites in the diaspora. How dare you. You people steal all we've created yet watched the destruction of our people. Please.
@ddsharper Dude I really am black. And arguing with you really is a waste of time especially on youtube. You totally are making a fool of yourself. If anything act like a black supremacists trying to say black people are better than whites at everything, and that simply isn't true. No specific race is better than the other. You talk like every black person is better than everyone else. We are all equal. Keep it that way!
@Diachi26 Tell that crap to the police who shoot unarmed black men for sport and to the Asians who claim our art forms. easy for a European to talk that crap when everything in this society is designed to preserve your culture of lies. Try this on for size and don't even mention God when you lie about being black. /watch?v=LXRvwk12atw
@ddsharper That is so wrong. Since when did worshiping God become a competition. If you worship God you worship him and thats all that matters. No race is wiser than the other. No race knows more than the other. We all have flaws. Not everyone in Asia is a genius. Not every black person is talented. Not every white person is rich and prosperous. No specific race is perfect. Learn to love others the way God loves you. God bless you sir.
@Diachi26 You huge pathetic liar. You are NOT black. Quit fronting. Holy crap. No black people pretend to be black. As far as your pathetic diatribes, they are rediculously white. Go share that shit with some white supremacists. LOL. You are a nut, certifiable nut.
@Diachi26 dude. there is NOTHING you can do or say to convince me that you are black. You sound like the classical whiney white boy. Please. Like I said, you can imitate baby but you can't duplicate. You are so pathetic. Holy crap.
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Ask that question of all the western civilization crap in every aspect of europe and usa, the fake pictures of jesus and every darn thing in the society that lies and says whites created everything, even man! Hell yes it matters.
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr black people care man. our history was and continues to be stolen, our culture raped by every urchin culture on the planet. it has been that way forever and the truths are finally being brought to light. check out the vids in my playlist under africa and weep.
@ddsharper In almost all of your comments, you refer to "white people"- so are "white people" just everyone who is not of African descent? And sorry to break it to you, but not all music comes from Africa, and it would probably be in your best interest if you weren't so close minded about western music. Just because most western music is written down isn't a bad thing- do you think it would be possible for an orchestra to play a symphony just from their "soul'- with no reference on paper?
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr blacks have nothing rooted in white culture when it comes to music and dance dude. we have a history you are apparently unaware of. slaves were not allowed to play drums once ripped out of africa. you people have been stealing our culture since the greeks and even before and it's finally being acknowledged by whites. black historians have always told the truth. you will know it all soon since the history channel and pbs are finally acknowleging it. check out african maths on YT
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Not in the black community baby. and that so call standardization by the so called swiss are now copying african american drumlines. Please. they probably got their first stuff from africa, just as all of europe did when they stole african history.
@ddsharper I just want to go back to your original statement about whites judging black art. Let's assume for a moment both judges are using the same rubric. What criteria are most likely on the sheets for a drum competition, or any kind of music performance competition for that matter? Quality of sound, technique, musicality/phrasing, and probably a box for elements of composition if the player is using an original piece, or a box for repertoire if they're using a solo from a book.
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr - deuce, I am sure you are serious but I stopped going back and forth with most white people. We create phrasing, technique and style and with or without being able to read music. Go to hear and play and see what this brotha is doing. There are blacks doing the same around the world in gospel and everything else blacks invented. We create from the soul and you people dissect it and write it down. It has been that way through history and will continue that way until Jesus comes
@ddsharper I do not deny anyone history. I give credit where credit is due. I really dont care what care what color a person is. We all have something to learn from one another. To paraphrase Schiller, "All men are brothers." No group is superior to another. There are only people who choose to perpetuate the divide. There is only one race: the human race. Are you in favor of unity among mankind, or continued division? That is a rhetorical question for you to ponder.
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr A world system of White Supremacy determines division and destruction so what I want or ponder is irrelevant. Until that system is dealt with, all else is a moot point. The entire European culture is dedicated to cramming their so-called history down the throats of the world.
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Every institution, university course, documentary, movie, book celebrates white culture, even when it's made up. Even Da Vinci's white Jesus is propagandized as being the real image of Jesus. When I bring up the preservation of African American culture, every white gets into a kumbaya moment about brotherhood. You cannot give credit when you do not know other histories so that argument is also irrelevant.
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Finally, with all due respect, your race's culture is backed by a world system of Supremacy. My culture and history is not. So I assert the truth whenever and where ever I can, regardless of white people's opinions. If not me, who will.
@ddsharper I've read your argument because it caught my eye, and was very interesting to hear you guys talk back to each other. I just have to ask what the HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!? Every chance you get you talk about rape of culture, and white supremacy. What the hell is your deal?
@ddsharper Also, all cultures have used drums to communicate in combat. Its just a logical choice. Drums as an instrument of communication and music making have evolved independently in every culture around the globe.
The rudiments we use today (as well as early forms of traditional grip) were established in the 17th and 18th centuries by the swiss. Bass drums as we know them came from Scotland. Djembes come from africa, doumbeks from the middle east, tabla from india. need i go on?
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Yes, all cultures have. Yes, but, independently -no. NO race is more imitated in its music, than Africans, especially African americans. this is history. That the history books, at least mainstream, don't cover this is typical and unfortunate. Where the drumming tool comes from is irrelevant in that Africans influenced all cultures, including the Greeks, Europeans, Asians & Americas. With the diaspora, African art was exported & inculcated. Read! Need I say more?
@jokerkline its just a stick trick they make it up on there own...and yes i kno this..i am a snare player for my school...look on my channel and my background and u will kno what brand i like
I believe it's a prepared solo, but from what it sounds like he combined a bunch of famous licks and put them together. A lot of it sounds like it's from the Blue Devils if you listen closely
at 1:35 he starts playing "Electric Wheelchair" verbatim, and that's Murray Gusseck. The SCV has tons of videos of them playing it, and this guy plays the opening snare solo.
@jesseroggaa that's what people call the bear claw. all you do is hit it with the back of the stick then the front of the stick with your right hand then diddle with your left. so it should sound like a double stroke roll if you get it clean enough.
nice 08 cadets i was going to go to there camp to check it out snareline right and if so wich one ill try to spot u out all of my techs marched dci cadets to. way better than this garbage
actually i marched 08 cadets wise guy and if you dont know what that is its a dci drum corp this isnt good at all he needs to learn rudiments instead of playing constant easy as hell to do stick tricks
well, yeah i dont see alot of technique used in this........ for the rudiments that you used like cheeses and i heard electric wheelchair in there not bad....try to focus more on rudiments that stick tricks.....if you learn that youre stick tricks will be way more immpressive...im from west coast so thats why im saying this...
Thats a Ludwig snare right? That actually sounds like a snare. Crispy with some bottom. Does any one know why this brand isn't used as much? Just wondering.

Diachi26 1 year ago
@Diachi26 First of all, you are NOT black. Black people don't write, think or talk like this. Why are so many white people pretending to be black on the internet and particularly on youtube. Black people don't need advice from whites. We know what time it is. White supremacists are the ones you need to address. What history we have is important to US since it was stolen by whites in the diaspora. How dare you. You people steal all we've created yet watched the destruction of our people. Please.
ddsharper 1 year ago
@ddsharper Dude I really am black. And arguing with you really is a waste of time especially on youtube. You totally are making a fool of yourself. If anything act like a black supremacists trying to say black people are better than whites at everything, and that simply isn't true. No specific race is better than the other. You talk like every black person is better than everyone else. We are all equal. Keep it that way!
Diachi26 1 year ago
@Diachi26 Tell that crap to the police who shoot unarmed black men for sport and to the Asians who claim our art forms. easy for a European to talk that crap when everything in this society is designed to preserve your culture of lies. Try this on for size and don't even mention God when you lie about being black. /watch?v=LXRvwk12atw
ddsharper 1 year ago
@Diachi26 Blacks are far wiser about how things work and about God than any white could ever be.
ddsharper 1 year ago
@ddsharper That is so wrong. Since when did worshiping God become a competition. If you worship God you worship him and thats all that matters. No race is wiser than the other. No race knows more than the other. We all have flaws. Not everyone in Asia is a genius. Not every black person is talented. Not every white person is rich and prosperous. No specific race is perfect. Learn to love others the way God loves you. God bless you sir.

@Diachi26 ur sick. you know NOTHING about God. Please.
ddsharper 1 year ago
@Diachi26 You huge pathetic liar. You are NOT black. Quit fronting. Holy crap. No black people pretend to be black. As far as your pathetic diatribes, they are rediculously white. Go share that shit with some white supremacists. LOL. You are a nut, certifiable nut.
ddsharper 1 year ago
@ddsharper Be remembered for being yourself and doing whats right and by the will of God. thats what i'm saying.
Diachi26 1 year ago
@Diachi26 dude. there is NOTHING you can do or say to convince me that you are black. You sound like the classical whiney white boy. Please. Like I said, you can imitate baby but you can't duplicate. You are so pathetic. Holy crap.

@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Ask that question of all the western civilization crap in every aspect of europe and usa, the fake pictures of jesus and every darn thing in the society that lies and says whites created everything, even man! Hell yes it matters.
ddsharper 1 year ago
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr black people care man. our history was and continues to be stolen, our culture raped by every urchin culture on the planet. it has been that way forever and the truths are finally being brought to light. check out the vids in my playlist under africa and weep.
ddsharper 1 year ago

Please. they probably got their first stuff from africa, just as all of europe did when they stole african history.
ddsharper 1 year ago
@ddsharper I just want to go back to your original statement about whites judging black art. Let's assume for a moment both judges are using the same rubric. What criteria are most likely on the sheets for a drum competition, or any kind of music performance competition for that matter? Quality of sound, technique, musicality/phrasing, and probably a box for elements of composition if the player is using an original piece, or a box for repertoire if they're using a solo from a book.
DeuceDeuceDrmmr 1 year ago
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Do any of those criteria have a requirement of being a particular ethnicity, or does it simply require training and experience?
DeuceDeuceDrmmr 1 year ago
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr - deuce, I am sure you are serious but I stopped going back and forth with most white people. We create phrasing, technique and style and with or without being able to read music. Go to hear and play and see what this brotha is doing. There are blacks doing the same around the world in gospel and everything else blacks invented. We create from the soul and you people dissect it and write it down. It has been that way through history and will continue that way until Jesus comes
ddsharper 1 year ago
@ddsharper I do not deny anyone history. I give credit where credit is due. I really dont care what care what color a person is. We all have something to learn from one another. To paraphrase Schiller, "All men are brothers." No group is superior to another. There are only people who choose to perpetuate the divide. There is only one race: the human race. Are you in favor of unity among mankind, or continued division? That is a rhetorical question for you to ponder.
DeuceDeuceDrmmr 1 year ago
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr A world system of White Supremacy determines division and destruction so what I want or ponder is irrelevant. Until that system is dealt with, all else is a moot point. The entire European culture is dedicated to cramming their so-called history down the throats of the world.
ddsharper 1 year ago
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Every institution, university course, documentary, movie, book celebrates white culture, even when it's made up. Even Da Vinci's white Jesus is propagandized as being the real image of Jesus. When I bring up the preservation of African American culture, every white gets into a kumbaya moment about brotherhood. You cannot give credit when you do not know other histories so that argument is also irrelevant.
ddsharper 1 year ago
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Finally, with all due respect, your race's culture is backed by a world system of Supremacy. My culture and history is not. So I assert the truth whenever and where ever I can, regardless of white people's opinions. If not me, who will.
ddsharper 1 year ago
@ddsharper I've read your argument because it caught my eye, and was very interesting to hear you guys talk back to each other. I just have to ask what the HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!? Every chance you get you talk about rape of culture, and white supremacy. What the hell is your deal?
gameplay0 1 year ago
@ddsharper Also, all cultures have used drums to communicate in combat. Its just a logical choice. Drums as an instrument of communication and music making have evolved independently in every culture around the globe.
The rudiments we use today (as well as early forms of traditional grip) were established in the 17th and 18th centuries by the swiss. Bass drums as we know them came from Scotland. Djembes come from africa, doumbeks from the middle east, tabla from india. need i go on?
DeuceDeuceDrmmr 1 year ago
@DeuceDeuceDrmmr Yes, all cultures have. Yes, but, independently -no. NO race is more imitated in its music, than Africans, especially African americans. this is history. That the history books, at least mainstream, don't cover this is typical and unfortunate. Where the drumming tool comes from is irrelevant in that Africans influenced all cultures, including the Greeks, Europeans, Asians & Americas. With the diaspora, African art was exported & inculcated. Read! Need I say more?

jesseroggaa 1 year ago
I believe it's a prepared solo, but from what it sounds like he combined a bunch of famous licks and put them together. A lot of it sounds like it's from the Blue Devils if you listen closely
evlmnkybtr 1 year ago
@evlmnkybtr Yeah, I can see a lot of things he's trying to take from Casey Brohard.
jesseroggaa 1 year ago
at 1:35 he starts playing "Electric Wheelchair" verbatim, and that's Murray Gusseck. The SCV has tons of videos of them playing it, and this guy plays the opening snare solo.
evlmnkybtr 1 year ago
@evlmnkybtr Oh, yeah, I've heard "Electric Wheelchair." Does anyone know how he does that Casey Brohard trick at 1:20?
jesseroggaa 1 year ago
@jesseroggaa that's what people call the bear claw. all you do is hit it with the back of the stick then the front of the stick with your right hand then diddle with your left. so it should sound like a double stroke roll if you get it clean enough.
FredrickUniversity 1 year ago
@FredrickUniversity Oh, thanks. Gotcha. Do you have any knowledge about how Casey Brohard does it without the diddle in the other hand though?
jesseroggaa 1 year ago
@jesseroggaa yeah idk about that. ha. just because i don't really know who casey brohard is. sorry bud.
FredrickUniversity 1 year ago
Casey just plays a double stroke with one hand. Each time the stick his it does a double stroke
