  • Queen actually did a very fascinating tribute to "The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke" that is worth a listen for those who like Richard Dadd's work.

  • Poor Dadd, Went mad ,Killed dad,Too bad,Very sad!

  • The music in the beginning has such a 'Fable' like feel to it, the game Fable I mean :)

  • * ethereal ~ * I prefer the LiGhT

  • I wish there was more to this segment. His artwork is lovely. Of course, that doesn't make up for his crime, but there you go.

  • his paintings must have schocked his contemporaries.I can imagine people fainting.

  • is this programm on dvd? Dadd was not just a 'faery' artist but had painted other genres. Writers such as Angela Carter and Terry Pratchett have used him for inspiration. BTW, his patron on the Egypt tour was Thomas Phillips, who was to play a part in suppressing the Chartist rebellion.

  • Mój ukochany malarz

  • Freddie Mercury wrote a song called "the fairy fellers master stroke" for the Queen 2 album the song was inspired by the painting of the same name

  • Fantastic!

  • Fantastic !!

I believe that Richard by his mental illness had opent some doors to the ethereal world...where he encountered the faeries...

  • or hes getting mental ill by opening some doors....

In any case...his paintings are SuperNatural Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ

  • @joshje777 perhaps he wasn't mentally ill...simply labelled as such. Who really knows?

  • @poltallach... Indeed, I've also been thinking about that...

  • @joshje777 Thank you Joshje!

Creative people throughout history have been labelled as mentally ill, perhaps some were, however I believe many were simply eccentric.

  • Dadd was in Bethlehem hospital aka 'Bedlam' (for the insane). Its from that mispronunciation that we get the saying "It was Bedlam" to describe anarchic scenes.

  • Dadd's Dad's last words - "One piece of advice, "Use suncream' ..."

  • After butchering his father (1843) Dadd fled to France. Many sketches of his friends with their throats cut were found in his London flat. He was eventually arrested when he tried to cut the throat of a tourist in Paris.

In "Fairy-Feller's Master-Stroke" (considered unfinished by Dadd) there is layer upon layer of detail.......detail hidden by more layers of detail. The surface of this work is, as a result , very thick and no internet reproduction does it justice >(Tate Gallery London)

  • Is this the entire program - or is there more? will be uploading it ???

  • Wonderful.

  • Bravo!

  • the whole series of programmes was really interesting wasn't it? Thanks GW.

  • Fascinating!

  • another cool vid, thanks ghostwatcher - enjoyable.

  • Ironic last name, isn't it?

  • Thanks for this. Really interesting. The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke is my favorite painting - I have a framed copy of it on the wall above this computer! :)

  • Dadd killed his dad? Always thought the fairies in this painting looked a little weird. Prefer Fitzgerald myself!

  • Thank you for this - I've been fascinated with Dadd and the Bedlam artists for years.

  • What a painter!

  • Crazy Jane is my favorite painting of all time. I had no idea Dadd was a fairy painter

  • the details in this painting are amazing!

  • The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke has always been one of my favorite paintings but I never knew who painted or the name of it until now.

The painting always gave me an odd feeling with its intensity and clutteredness, I guess that's what drew me to it.

Now I know that the artist was a madman!

Thanks for the video, I never felt the Victorians treated the Good People right.

If you have any more documentaries of fairies please upload them!

We don't have enough on Youtube.
