Free trade isn't the problem, it's poverty. Free trade actually INCREASES the wealthy of each party involved in the trade (or both parties would not trade). Trade & competition leads to an increased standard of living for the entire nation, which is exactly what "Halima" needs. This can be easily seen by considering what would happen if we restricted or banned foreign trade. Halima would be an 11 year old prostitute literally sleeping in the gutters, & countless others out of a job would starve.
Thank god for Hanes, without them poor halima would be working as a prostitute in Bombay. If you truly love children, support companies that employ children in third world countries, or they may end up fat a stupid like the ones here in America.

sweatshops need to be banned!!! i mean the world doesnt have to be this way at all! there are people on this earth who have enough money to dress, nourish and to shelter every single poor person on this planet... !
AND (dont worry, almost done lol) How did u get her to do this? You payed her. Did she come do this because you FORCED her to, or for the MONEY? Im not saying im the big bad wolf, im saying that its not our fault. So we need to stop worrying about it. Hell, we cant take care of ourselfs, much less ppl hunderds of miles ovr seas.
i think the whole goddamn system is created such that in order to progress with ones life in general, they have to do this as there IS no other provided alternative because the bastard illuminati masonic dogs in charge only care about making sure their own pockets are filled with worldly goods, who is little halima to a member of the rocker feller family??? doesnt even exist in their books!!!
Dont worry, the underwhere isnt dirty. Hanes buy the lable, and the underwhere, then when it gets to them, they sort, wash, and pack it. Its not germy. but still, this is horable.
@TheTubeNewsShow We'd like to think that's true, but remember that Hanes factories are overseas, so the factory where Halima works is where they sort and pack the garments. However, most factories do not wash clothing before it is sent to America and Europe. We have even documented bed bugs being transported from toys in China to the U.S. The NLC agrees with you though, the conditions are horrible regardless!
Yes, they do not wash it at THEIR country. WE wash it and package it here. I know its bad. BUT, if this girl wasnt doing this, shed have to get money somehow. Like may i suggest being a prostitute? Or selling drugs? Yes its bad, but compared to what? Cant we just agree, that we live in a nice, safe, place to be. a free country, where jobs have labor rules. Its horable, COMPARED to what WE are used to. HEAVEN from what they are. unless, you want her to starve?
and, aggurement aside, i know its bad. I know it is very, very sad. But, its not our fault. Its their religion/goverment/whaver. Not hers, not mine, NOT HANES, not yours. Hane is just another company, struggleing to make money like she is. They proboly dont know where the labor comes from. Now, if the hanes came and FORCED her to do that, thats when we would have a problem. But she WANTS to. She would starve if she didnt. So, your choice. Take away her money, take away her life.
What a cute girl. Does she look happy? I feel so helpless but do what I am able. My father is from India and this little girl looks so much like one of my daughters. The people in control should be ashamed!!
@Zapmanio Your not helpless, you just need to do more research in terms of where the products you buy are coming from. Being a smart consumer isn't too hard, people are just lazy. By not supporting companies that use sweatshops/child labor and demonstrating that the reason you don't purchase from them is because of their forced labor, you then give them incentive to give their workers better working conditions and higher pay.
my nieces and nephews work for a seafood, fish packing company in Vietnam. And they are all under 15. Family is extremely poor, so these kids have to work in order to pay for school tuition. And they earned about $1 USD per day, depends on how much they do for the day.
:( America is so unaware of where their clothes are coming from. Just look at the tag and see what country your shirt is made in, and then start to research what factory it came from, and then you'll start seeing some disturbing results.
If little Halima didn't sew cheap clothing, her only alternatives would be child prostitution or death by starvation.
Anti-child labor/sweatshop activists are righteous morons who can't seem to grasp the logical implacations of their actions, what would happen if all sweatshops were to close. Those kids have no safety nets/ alternatives, without sweatshops their lives would be much much worse, their lives are only hanging by a thin thread that holier than thou SWPL are intent on cutting.
The problem isn't child labour necessarily, it is the inhumane conditions that make it outrageous. I personally do not object to her working, but I very much object to the inhumane and degrading work conditions she is subjected to.
@whatsinthatbox Those are all very valid points. The goal of the NLC is not to close sweatshops, but to improve working and living conditions for those who have no other alternatives. We encourage brands that produce in sweatshops overseas to use their influence to help the people in these factories, rather than to pull their line from the factories and hurt the workers even more. If you visit our site, you can find many, many past examples of our successes with this issue.
Then make it clearer on you videos because there are people who will see this and will boycott, thinking they're helping her, but are in fact killing her. If you are you do anti sweatshop activism, then do it responsibly, because too many children needlessly suffered because because of boycott induced job losses.
companies need those sweatshops. it helps keep costs down as much as possible to make the stuff and makes it more profitable. Not only that but american consumers benefit from the low prices.
@nlcnet As "whatsinthatbox" mentions, Hanes is helping these children by offering an option better than prostitution or starvation. You suggest that your campaign is not for the elimination of sweatshops, but rather the improvement of conditions for the poor. Essentially you want Hanes to give charity to Halima, and others like her.
Why are the owners of Hanes responsible for charity any more than the rest of humanity? Hanes is at least helping prevent starvation and prostitution.
@whatsinthatbox only a moron would think, people have it better working for a a few cents a day, without no toothbrush or toothpaste or barely any food, it's like comparing one bad thing to another, oh it's better jumping off the building rather than slitting your wrists, It's evil nobody should have to starve or work in horrible conditions for crumbs and be belittled and dehumanized. Assholes like you are what contribute to this worls corruption. wait till you have to face God. let him judge u
@whatsinthatbox You're the supreme idiot here. The goal of the NLC is to raise wages & support domestic legal reforms which will give more of the revenue to labor & less to the obscene profit margin of the multinationals. The labor fraction for a typical H&M garment I read was in 2009 around 1/100 of its price. These people wouldn't send their kids to factories were their land not seized from them. Only landless peasant seek factory work. Higher wages = fewer working hours, schools for children.
@whatsinthatbox And what boot-licking slave are u not 2 challenge the very model of the public shareholding corp., as if this 17th C legal fiction, whose origin was intimately tied to slavery, were inherent to man or a constitutive element of economic or social well-being?! Do u think the Comanche, the Paiute & the Sioux did not fight to the death to withhold their glorious way of life from the 110 hr/wk "gift" of the sweatshop for their children? All shareholders should be workers & vice versa.
@whatsinthatbox So should little Halima work 8 hours, 10 hours, 12 hours, 14 hours or 16 hours a day? How many days should she work per week - 6 or 7? Should she be allowed to be beaten at work as well for mistakes and be allowed to go the bathroom? Should she be given lunch? How many cents per hour should she get - 8, 9, 10 or 11? What percentage of the cost of the garment she makes should go to her: 1/100, 1/97, 1/95? Your stupid catch-all arguments are simply a blank check for exploitation.
@whatsinthatbox Yeah, and that`s why it`s ok?? There are projects that allow working children to go to school for some houers a day and to have fair working conditions......
@whatsinthatbox Wow, is that how your justify abuse?! As much as these corporations make....you don't think they can give people better working conditions? 'Righteous morons'? How can you say something like that? Are you so desensitized that you can't see the wrong in what is going on here?
@whatsinthatbox said [[If little Halima didn't sew cheap clothing, her only alternatives would be child prostitution or death by starvation.
Anti-child labor/sweatshop activists are righteous morons..., what would happen if all sweatshops were to close. Those kids have no safety nets/ alternatives, without sweatshops their lives would be much much worse, ...hanging by a thin thread that holier than thou SWPL are intent on cutting.]]
she is so beautiful. it's a shame these companies use these children to make clothes and we need them, or else we'd go naked. i would stop buying these clothes, but i need something to wear.
i would support child labor if it was like this: the children get adequate break times, money, a lunch and a dinner, and have days off. no beatings, free bathroom times, or sign in sheets. x.x
unfortunately, that's just too good to be true. :l
the fascist criminal govt of bangladesh work so well with the "entrepreneurs" there and the gloriified EU, Who talk abt human rights all day long, In reality, the EU is no better, The ppl of europe will soon wake up to see the workings of that rotten criminal club in Brussels,
@bundangbear Oh ya, because workers and the common people got treated so well under communism. She probably makes more than an average workers in North Korea which really shows how much more disgusting communism really is. Also in capitalism legally competent adults can form employment contract, how can a child who doesn't have full legal competence possibly engage in an employment contract? Same with drugs or sex, an adult has the ability to undertake but a child does not.
@bonfirejovi Capitalism is a failed system, and you know it! North Korea? Communist? NOT. It's Juche, NOT communist. Yes, it is also a failed state, I agree. You know nothing! Jefferson himself was anti-capitalist. "I hope we shall... crush in its birth the aristocracy of our
moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our

There is no perfect system... Every apple tree, even well-planted and well-grown would still have some rotten apples. We all bite those apples for knowledge and some taste rotten and is hard to digest. Since the beginning of mankind there were scapegoats. Sadly, this is the way it was, is and will always be, but still we can change it, but it'll be too difficult.
I haven't read all 286 comments here but I believe the man asking the questions is Charles Kernaghan, executive director of the National Labor Committee in Support of Human and Worker Rights, headquartered in New York City. He is most famous for during congressional testimony in 1996 that child laborers in Honduras were making the Gifford clothing line. Since then he has given testimony to the U.S. Congress as well as the United Nations. (Wikipedia). Love your work, Charles. Keep it up! C.
No one has the right to exploit and abuse people who live in third world countries. Hanes co. can't do this in USA. The solution to this world problem is the hands of the costumers and voters. Try as much as you can to buy "Fair trade" products. We, aware costumers should spread the word of hope by buying at fair trade stores.
Whoever thinks this child may be lying is very wrong, you can tell by her body language & the fact she looks them straight in the eye almost everytime she replies she is telling the truth.
Im in ireland but my wife is filipino & i have 2 children born in the philippines, my youngest is a girl & she looks a lot like this child, I find this video upsetting to watch, id love to go there and beat the shit out of the people abusing that child and others.
Child labour is officially banned in most countries in Europe but the Dutch governement does not do anything to stop the childlabour in their country or originating from their country.
@luvonesmusic why i am stupid! explain , listen dude u have no idea of these , just watching nd comment crap on youtube , i know this things coz i work with it! some ngo make this kinda interview for gain donation money from eu , usa or g8. but there are real problems like child labour in bangladesh or other 3rd world or developing nations , unfortunately the world leading companies like , nike , adidas, reebok, canon or gap make order those factories who uses child labour. all is sad u too!
@kennisings coz u have no real idea ! thats why u agree him. its very easy to comment those when u stay far from canada or australia. child labour is a crap thing i agree, but they r so poor kids . if they dont work they will be hungry. then who will feed them !!! you ??? i guess not. so better keep quiet when u cant do anything good. comments in youtube doesnt means u support those. loveonesmusic is not the fact here. fact is we r discussing about child labour. think deep. happy day
Child labor is a sin. Children should be in school making friends and having fun, just being a kid. They shouldn't be doing hard labor, or being abused in factories like this innocent child. Child labor should be internationally banned. Let kids be kids and enjoy their childhood instead of being exposed to these kinds of atrocities just so greedy people like us can save a few bucks. It's not right.
We had child labour in Europe and North America until unionization became widespread. These countries need to do for their own, the same as our own did for ours.
She is a very beautiful young girl. Reading that she is always beaten at the factory, it is just sick. Children should go to school, not work in factories.
@Agnieszka214 The kids are better off working in factories than shitting in schoolyards where they aren't learning anything except Marxism. Working in factories also keeps these punks from joining gangs and selling drugs.
@DarrelfromZeeland How can you say that. Didn't you listen to the video and hear what she says about the way they are treated and the conditions they have to live in? At least at school they might be safer. I feel so sorry for her at least when they are sitting in a school yards they are probably not getting beaten up. Swearshops should be baned full stop.
An Equal Money System for All from Birth till Death is the Solution to this bullshit as well as many of the atrocities existing within and as this world!
Childslaves exist in Europe with the knowledge of the Dutch governement. They do NOTHING to stop this. In 2006+7 they ordered a report into the fact that the childslaves are not insured for workrelated accidents. The Dutch company JEUGDZORG sources out these kids in France and Germany. google childslaves.blogspot
@DarrelfromZeeland When was Sweden communist? They acquired their wealth through a free market system up until the 70s when the social democrats came in and ruined everything. Sweden are now undergoing mass privatization and deregulation as they figured out that the squandered a lot of their wealth.
Most consumers do NOT have access to the information available in order to distinguish which corporations do this and which do not. Conditions change in the global market all the time too. How much new journalism is keeping up with the changes in the production chains? Nowhere near enough.
Consumers must be responsible if they are able to. Ultimately we should try to buy clothes and manufactured things that are ONLY locally made in our rich countries.
@PersianPaladin So you'd rather pay 10 times as much for your stuff? I'll be laughing at your sorry ass all the way to the bank with the money I save buying my stuff from the gooks and dotheads.
@PersianPaladin DarrelfromZeeland isn't human. He's a bottom feeding uneducated troll. Don't waste your time arguing with him, he's the most stubborn, immature, bullheaded, propaganda-infested, rascist pig on youtube.
@PersianPaladin Mudscum, liberals, and niggers are the monsters. Of the 3, libturds are the worst because they enable all the other pathological fucks and appease the mudscum.
She just told she earn TK=9930. It does not seems true either. But the interpretor just told Tk930. And obviously she does not look prepared for an interview like this. This is not a common case in Bangladesh Garment Factory.

i thik owners of factrex lik this th shuld kill them all huh how th fuck sombdy can treat kids like this huh.....th hve no childhoods no education and futre huh.......close all factres like this huh
if people in developed countries wont change their mentality as well as helping less developed countries change theirs, there wont be any sustainable change occuring! so i agree.. instead of buying huge quantities of food and clothing, buy ones that will make a difference!
isn't this slightly reminding the situation children, and people in general, were during the Industrial revolution at the begining of the 19th century? people were able to find solutions once, they should be able to do it again, simply the developed world has been through it all and now can compare, which leads to shock ... what is really inappropriate that western countries have not fully learned from their mistakes or moreover profit from being supperior in one way or another.
What a poorly done interview. Did they really think that two aggressive sounding men were going to be able to find out anything from an 11 year old girl on their own?
If anyone had an inch of intelligence, they could research and see "Who Owns" ALL the Major Designer labels that Dominate the World and I can Guarantee... every single one can be linked back to a Jewish-named individual! Dont worry, the underwhere isnt dirty. Hanes buy the lable, and the underwhere, then when it gets to them, they sort, wash, and pack it. Its not germy. but still, this is horable.
TheTubeNewsShow 1 year ago
@TheTubeNewsShow We'd like to think that's true, but remember that Hanes factories are overseas, so the factory where Halima works is where they sort and pack the garments. However, most factories do not wash clothing before it is sent to America and Europe. We have even documented bed bugs being transported from toys in China to the U.S. The NLC agrees with you though, the conditions are horrible regardless!
nlcnet 1 year ago 3
Yes, they do not wash it at THEIR country. WE wash it and package it here. I know its bad. BUT, if this girl wasnt doing this, shed have to get money somehow. Like may i suggest being a prostitute? Or selling drugs? Yes its bad, but compared to what? Cant we just agree, that we live in a nice, safe, place to be. a free country, where jobs have labor rules. Its horable, COMPARED to what WE are used to. HEAVEN from what they are. unless, you want her to starve?
TheTubeNewsShow 1 year ago
and, aggurement aside, i know its bad.

Zapmanio 1 year ago
@Zapmanio Your not helpless, you just need to do more research in terms of where the products you buy are coming from. Being a smart consumer isn't too hard, people are just lazy. By not supporting companies that use sweatshops/child labor and demonstrating that the reason you don't purchase from them is because of their forced labor, you then give them incentive to give their workers better working conditions and higher pay.
ludaXkillz 1 year ago
my nieces and nephews work for a seafood, fish packing company in Vietnam. And they are all under 15. Family is extremely poor, so these kids have to work in order to pay for school tuition. And they earned about $1 USD per day, depends on how much they do for the day.
silliepooh 1 year ago
:( America is so unaware of where their clothes are coming from. Just look at the tag and see what country your shirt is made in, and then start to research what factory it came from, and then you'll start seeing some disturbing results.
Mollith72 1 year ago
@Mollith72, want to know how all this started?
America sells cheap grain to other countries.
The local farmers can't compete, and go out of business.
They move to cities to find jobs.
The sweatshops and factories don't pay them enough,
and pollute the air and soil.
The pollution makes people sick and makes
it impossible to grow food in some areas,
meaning more farmers lose there jobs.

If little Halima didn't sew cheap clothing, her only alternatives would be child prostitution or death by starvation.
Anti-child labor/sweatshop activists are righteous morons who can't seem to grasp the logical implacations of their actions, what would happen if all sweatshops were to close. Those kids have no safety nets/ alternatives, without sweatshops their lives would be much much worse, their lives are only hanging by a thin thread that holier than thou SWPL are intent on cutting.
whatsinthatbox 1 year ago
@whatsinthatbox
The problem isn't child labour necessarily, it is the inhumane conditions that make it outrageous. I personally do not object to her working, but I very much object to the inhumane and degrading work conditions she is subjected to.
s315346 1 year ago 2
@whatsinthatbox Those are all very valid points. The goal of the NLC is not to close sweatshops, but to improve working and living conditions for those who have no other alternatives. We encourage brands that produce in sweatshops overseas to use their influence to help the people in these factories, rather than to pull their line from the factories and hurt the workers even more. If you visit our site, you can find many, many past examples of our successes with this issue.
nlcnet 1 year ago 19
@nlcnet

KripDrip 7 months ago
@nlcnet As "whatsinthatbox" mentions, Hanes is helping these children by offering an option better than prostitution or starvation. You suggest that your campaign is not for the elimination of sweatshops, but rather the improvement of conditions for the poor. Essentially you want Hanes to give charity to Halima, and others like her.
Why are the owners of Hanes responsible for charity any more than the rest of humanity? Hanes is at least helping prevent starvation and prostitution.
MrReasonableThinking 6 months ago
@whatsinthatbox only a moron would think, people have it better working for a a few cents a day, without no toothbrush or toothpaste or barely any food, it's like comparing one bad thing to another, oh it's better jumping off the building rather than slitting your wrists, It's evil nobody should have to starve or work in horrible conditions for crumbs and be belittled and dehumanized. Assholes like you are what contribute to this worls corruption. wait till you have to face God. let him judge u

@whatsinthatbox There is a difference between advocating for the closing of sweatshops, and asking for humans beings to be treated with dignity.
Inkognitohaloramics 9 months ago 2
@whatsinthatbox You're the supreme idiot here. The goal of the NLC is to raise wages & support domestic legal reforms which will give more of the revenue to labor & less to the obscene profit margin of the multinationals. The labor fraction for a typical H&M garment I read was in 2009 around 1/100 of its price. These people wouldn't send their kids to factories were their land not seized from them. Only landless peasant seek factory work. Higher wages = fewer working hours, schools for children.
musicalidea 8 months ago
@whatsinthatbox And what boot-licking slave are u not 2 challenge the very model of the public shareholding corp., as if this 17th C legal fiction, whose origin was intimately tied to slavery, were inherent to man or a constitutive element of economic or social well-being?! Do u think the Comanche, the Paiute & the Sioux did not fight to the death to withhold their glorious way of life from the 110 hr/wk "gift" of the sweatshop for their children? All shareholders should be workers & vice versa.
musicalidea 8 months ago
@whatsinthatbox So should little Halima work 8 hours, 10 hours, 12 hours, 14 hours or 16 hours a day? How many days should she work per week - 6 or 7? Should she be allowed to be beaten at work as well for mistakes and be allowed to go the bathroom? Should she be given lunch? How many cents per hour should she get - 8, 9, 10 or 11? What percentage of the cost of the garment she makes should go to her: 1/100, 1/97, 1/95? Your stupid catch-all arguments are simply a blank check for exploitation.

"I hope we shall... crush in its birth the aristocracy of our

our country."

Its more or less every aspect in the chain of consuming.
But first and foremost the consumer itself is to blaim.
The time of big revolutions in our developed countries is over but we have one thing: Our money, its a small revolution.
We can decide under which circumstances our goods are manufactured by deciding not to be trapped by well paid marketing managers.
Go organic, go regional, go social

Most consumers do NOT have access to the information available in order to distinguish which corporations do this and which do not. Conditions change in the global market all the time too. How much new journalism is keeping up with the changes in the production chains? Nowhere near enough.
Consumers must be responsible if they are able to. Ultimately we should try to buy clothes and manufactured things that are ONLY locally made in our rich countries.
