Is there some special button to push when you have gearbox open so you can hear your guitar? because I plugged in my Pod X3, opened gearbox, plugged in my guitar and I don't hear shit....any suggestions?
If you don't own a bass guitar do you think you can get by with just using your guitar's bass notes to record a bass line...if you think so how would you go about making the bass notes on your guitar mimic a bass guitar? please help cause cant afford a bass guitar....and whats the cheapest way to get a drum kit..I hear some people use there guitar hero drums to do the job..any tips will be great..thanks
Hmm...I personally agree that in RHYTHM, there's a certain amount of mid and treble you need sometimes, but I personally have found that I need to swap the mid and treb. Just so people know, some amps/guitars are more middy and can have the mid turned down, but remember you need to compensate with more treble sometimes, or even more bass if it's a high-mid based guitar.
@Zevaked94 Watch out for the trebles since if your hitting the higher up chords hard, it's gonna make the tone screechy and unpleasant. Lots of mids. :)
Hey Champ, I was wondering what type or gauge of strings do you use on your guitar? People always tell me that it effects your tone as well based on the gauge and whatever it's made from does too. Awesome tutorial anyways :)
okay but i have a mrshall MG and can get a fine tone out of that and lets say you had that whats the point in having theese amps on a program when you can change your tone on the real amp?
@FamilyJules7X oh i see. well i only have audacity. i do have cubase it came with the interface i bought but its really confusing and so hard to set up in comparison to audacity for me. i dont really know anything about eqing and compressing or the other video that you said the 2 things would be split.
Thanks a lot, man. You taught me a lot in this. Only one thing: How do you hook up the guitar to the computer? If it's in one of your later Thunderday tutorials, you don't need to answer cuz I'm gonna watch the rest this week. Thanks again! :D
For EQing bass guitar, I read somewhere that the lower end of the bass frequencies, around 80 and below I think, maybe 40 is more rumble than actual bass sound. So if it was going through a subwoofer it might be better for a low shelf to have been used on the bass guitar to reduce rumble. That's just my take on it anyways. :)
@saboomify Correct. Mixing bass can be tricky because if you go too high, the bass loses clarity and sounds like a big mess if there's multiple instruments.
Awesome video. You were clear on the key points that people need to know. I used to just fiddle with dials until it sounded "good". After my training last year I have begun to DIAL in FIRST and THEN LISTEN.
@Fatalyze666 You've gotta have the hardware too man. You're not going to be able to just plug the guitar in to the computer and go. Grab yourself a good interface. Usually with programs like this, they search for the specific interface.
@BoyOfLol Well, if it's just lead guitars, then yeah you're gonna want some bass. But when you start piling on instruments, it's just going to fuck with the clarity of the other things.
@FamilyJules7X I suppose, I guess it all depends on the day and the mood of the song as well. I know (as far as magazines have told me) that guitarists like Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani use a healthy amount of bass in their tone, and none of their stuff sound very muddy to me.
This was actually really helpful. I've been using GearBox to record my songs for about a year now and it turns out, I'm not doing it as well as I could. I used to just go into the presets and change those up a bit.
@FamilyJules7X yes I tried but it is the same, but this also happened to me in the last video, not sure why. But it doesn't matter, because I understand almost all the things you say :)
you know i have to admit, i when your videos first started coming out i hated the tone, im not a fan of contour or treble HOWEVER your playing is creative and well structured enough that you are my favorite video game artist to listen to, P.S. i am going to buy a presonus usb recorder and put up some of my bands work, do you know if it is a good system to have? and also if i post some vid reponses would you give structured feed back, if you even watch them?? thanks a lot man,
@BluePi1313 I wanted to try and learn something new. I did. Not about how to make things, but more about peoples tastes. Which is always good to know.
Thanks for the video, I'm really looking forward to Mixing though. My tone sounds much richer and smoother live than when I record through my computer.
WELL, this definitely gives me some vital information. I've got a POD X3 Live with Gearbox (wanting to upgrade to an HD500) and I pretty much have the opposite of everything here. Gain in the compressor, high shelf on the treble side of the EQ, a lot of drive and bass, and all that in a single tone for rhythm AND lead... Guess I better hop on that and make a few slight adjustments after work today.
Personally I prefer the Marshall amp models in here. But I'll play around with them more of them.
You shoulod play or dink around with sounds man i liked the random guitar sounds.....umm like i dont know make it sound awesome....this is going no place. make a custom song that would sound BAD ass like more of a rock tone to it

"Bass is back mo'fu**a !!' I just lost it there. Thanks for the tutorial! I found it pretty helpful. Keep 'em coming! I look forward to next Thunderday.
I'm having difficulty mixing vocals with music. Granted, I do song parodies and cartoony show tunes, much different from guitar stuff. Nevertheless, I have such a hard time mixing my vocal track with the actual music, and can never get it to sound right. Do you have any vocal mixing tips? For the record I have audacity, cakewalk, and FL studio for software, in case that helps.
@TransfatylvaniaFilms I'll talk about mixing later, but for the most part, I've found that mixing vocals similar to how you'd mix lead guitars works the best.
can do you do upload the tutorials to mediafire with spanish subtitles too? for can watch him in other moment @ offline too.
I think it would be a good idea =)
