I love the spirited finale. It's like listening to the Lone Ranger and expecting the cavelry but the Gay Men's Chorus come galloping over the hill instead.
we're doing a slightly different arrangement (i believe the entire key of our arrangement is a half-step up) in wind ensemble. is a most excellent piece.
nope! This thing is made for A clarinet. A clarinet is in F Major. Bb clarinet part does have 4 sharps if transposed. Therefore it is not a easier key. It is perfectly in tune with my clarinet part. maybe this is where you mistakened it?
Richard Troxell sings the lead in "Zampa" every year in Europe. He did it at the Opera Comique in Paris in March, and is due to sing it again in Paris in December and in Caen, France in January. If you want to hear a beautiful voice, look him up here on YouTube. The one I like best is "Ah, leve toi soleil" from Romeo and Juliet.
Dance Discovery, a performing dance troupe in ST Louis, Missouri, is in the process of reviving a French Quadrille from a manuscript in the Missouri History Archives which uses tunes from Zampa. The manuscript was made by Charles Boisliniere who likely saw the opera as a student in Paris in 1831. He became a prominent physician in St Louis. Contact me if interested.

Great piece. I love the ending!! I think it should be used for relaxation and meditation but it never is.

I don't suppose that the ending would be the right kind of music for a meditation and relaxation tape.

Lovely music to listen to in a park on a Summer Day, played by an accomplished orchestra, or in the evening as the shaddows lengthen.

The part was originally written for C Clarinet (as shown in the orchestral score).

Has anyone ever made a ballet of this? I've known every note since I was a child. Never heard it played live, or seen the opera.

I have been look for the name of this overture for years. It is played throughout a movie called "Charlie Chan and Curse of the Dragon Queen".

In my opinion, the quintessential high-energy overture from an opera that never gets performed, at least as far as I know!
But Von Suppe's "Light Cavalry" is great too.

Zampa is a significant clue in understanding Kate Chopin's novel the "Awakening." Your version was very well done. Thank you.

We played this song in Orchestra...only not as well because we're a HS Orchestra with only a few wind/brass people to help out. Loved this song!!
