  • and I still hate Miami today. I'm glad they are on the schedule. Run up the score and run them out of town.

  • i was named after this guy lol

  • I love how the only thing playing at the end of the clip is the band. Anymore, all you hear are the announcers blabbing over it, or commercials interrupting it.

  • This was back when you could actually celebrate in college football.

  • well guess what hes my aau basketball coach

  • What an amazing player. I remember watching this and going crazy and jumping around our family room. He had so many memorable moments at Notre Dame.

  • I've got a "rocket in my pocket" for you, Raghib! Call me.

    Father McFeelgood, UND.

  • What an amazing player. One of the things that was so great about him is that he did it when it mattered most. Even before the return against the Colorado he had a number of big game returns. It should have surprised no one when he took one back against Colorado. Amazing, amazing player! Should have won a Heisman. Way better than Desmond Howard and Tim Brown.

  • i have this football card of him running it in

  • He was such an amazing player. You definitely could not go anywhere when he was on the field. He could score from anywhere.

  • this was his 500th career td run. one short of madden back in the days!!

  • I'm not even a Notre Dame fan in the LEAST, but these were the days man. When ND was scary, and always up there in the top 5 in the AP . This was good for college football.

  • no i will remember him as one of the most explosive kick returners of all time

  • Sadly, the only thing the Rocket will ever be known for was stomping on an opposing player in a Canadian Football game many years ago.

  • @UsonianAC the hell are u talkin bout i never heard of that dumbass

  • @beans111000 Search "Ismail ejection" here on YouTube, and you'll know what I'm talking about.

  • GO IRISH BEAT MIAMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bhughs77 They did!!!!!!!

  • what was rocket's 40 time in cfl ball?

  • Probably go down as the greatest player at ND during Holtz era if not all time..

  • Football is a man's sport. Tired of all the talk ablout celebrations and taunting. If I thought my opponent hated being taunted, I would do it too. See Tim Brown (#87) at 0:38

  • @ThankGodImBlack370 umm tim brown was in the nfl in 1990...

  • @flyersfan10 My apologies, you're right. You'd think me being a raider fan I would have remembered him in the first Tecmo Bowl, plus TB didn't even wear 87 at ND. Thanks.

  • rocket never taunted anyone, he was a class guy. plus holtz didnt allow that kind of play at nd. no need when they were as good as they were from 1988-1994. ah i miis those days. here again soon i hope.

  • Whats the Rocket doing these days? Anyone know?

  • @mulder1021 coachin my basketball team with damon hodge from the cowboys his son plays on our team

  • @mulder1021

Met him at a Dental Convention. He was working for/with Under Armour.

They were promoting the Under Armour Mouth Guard. He posed for a photo

and also gave me a personally autographed photo.

    Very friendly and respectful.

  • damn, against my canes.

  • @cloud4527 lol take my advice. if rocket is gonna return the kickoff and/or punt, just kick that bitch out of bounds. as soon as rocket ismail recieves the kick and/or punt he'll blast off to the endzone.

  • to settle the pathetic arguement over if he was showing off or not, who cares? i play high school football and let me tell you, whenever i make a great play or a touchdown i am excited and i let my emotions show it. its the reason we play the game. theres no taunting or anything done in this play

  • he was just fast

  • Nothing better than a victory over Criminal U.

  • Don't cry about the past, we'll see Brian Kelly kick your *ss in 2012 at Soldier's Field, like the Irish did two of the last three time they played. You can't stop a Rocket, ask U of M, hope ND has another Freshman Rocket up their sleeves, and they already have the Coach.

  • anybody noticed how that guy almost caught the rocket

  • @neter1999 looks like he could have got him but he stops trying

  • @jrody22 he stopped trying cuz he was a kicker n even if he coulda touched him (which he couldnt) he wouldnt have been able to stop him...if u cant catch a guy with a fifteen yard head start and a perfect angle u stand no chance. just to end that argument

  • did you see that #31 from miami that almost caught the rocket ismail?

  • my last name is ismail :-)

  • you see that guy about to catch the rocket? he was right there!!

  • @amun1999

Nobody was going to catch him. All of the MIA players stopped running about the 20 yard line, while Rocket went all the way into the endzone, onnly dropping the ball AFTER he croseed the goal line. I have seen a much better resolution to this play and it is OBVIOUS that Rocket drops the ball only after crossing the goal line.

  • I swear to God, the Rocket started to let go of the ball before he crossed the goal line! It should have been a fumble up for grabs but the refs blew it. You won't notice it in this video because of YouTube's quality, but watch a tape of it on a TV or capture it to an editing program then slow-mo it. He clearly and very arrogantly starts to release the ball from his hand a full step before crossing.

  • @ciccone39

No he did not. He dropped AFTER he crossed the goal line. He NEVER taunted anyone or did anything remotely arrogant. He was a class act, ALWAYS.

  • @humblephil I specifically stated how on this play, THIS play, the Rocket acted arrogantly. Not his whole career. THIS play. I also stated how YouTubes's quality does no justice. I have this game on my computer through Final Cut Pro and have analyzed the play frame by frame. Although he does not completely drop the ball until after he crosses he begins to let go of the ball before he crosses. Therefore he did not have complete possession and it should have been a fumble.

  • @ciccone39 what website can i go to too download this game?

  • @neter1999 I have a tape of the game i transferred to my computer. No website i know of.

  • @ciccone39 shut up bitch...the are human beings not fucking robots...sit behind your comp and continue to "analyze the play frame by frame" ...lmaooo...people have emotion you dumb fuck...he dropped the ball because he just ran over 100 yards (didn't run in a straight line) and was tired you dip shit..

    .

did his team jump on him in a "show-off attitude"...??? you are a hater...suck a dick you fat ass slob ass hater...

  • @thetruthis9 Kiss my ass. First of all I was rooting for ND this game and still do today. Check out all of my ND videos. Watch the Rocket right when he crosses the goal line. He clearly is trying to be fancy in his body language by letting go of the ball right after he crosses. Trying to be smooth. However he timed it wrong. Not because of the fact he was tired. The Rocket was showing-off, not his team simply celebrating what was ruled a TD.

  • @ciccone39 i dont give a fuck if you like ND...i hate them fucks...almost as i hate you and your inadequate ability to properly see a valid touchdown...nothing was timed wrong you dumb stupid fuck...its a valid touchdown...he wasnt "trying to look cool"...even if he was, why is that a bad thing as you claimed it was...you are a fucking hater you dumb ass gay bitch...

  • @thetruthis9 For crying out loud excuse me. Lay of the steroids for Gods sake. Try decaf. All I was doing was stating my opinion. You should probably give yourself an enema because from the nature of your responses it sounds like you have something building up in your guts that you just can't seem to release.

  • @ciccone39 you dumb goon...you shouldn't give dumb fuck ass shit opinions...YOU HEAR ME...??? HUH MOTHERFUCKER...!!! Think again fool...!!!

  • @thetruthis9 He fumbled the ball mother fucker! Kiss my ass bitch!

  • @ciccone39 no he didn't you stupid fuck head bitch hoe dumb butt...

  • @thetruthis9 Suck my dick!

  • Comment removed

  • @humblephil I don't know why he did it other to say he was trying to act stylish/ show-off. He clearly drops the ball with some sort of show-off attitude

  • I'll take the Rocket over Bush anyday. Who can forget that damned clip call the other time versus them canes.

  • @arch0049

That clip call was against COLORADO in the Orange Bowl, the very same year, actually. I was at this game though, and I was in the end zone where the return was headed. What a great day he had.

  • When you see a black guy with a gold and black uniform, and a 25 on his back returning a kickoff for a touchdown, who do you think of - Rocket Ismail or Reggie Bush?

  • ah the good ol' days

  • took the words right out of my mouth. when we were actually fighting and not just irish.

  • benim adim da ismail!!!!!!!!!!

  • haha weird because my name is Tim Ismail

  • @UzamakiNaruto21

thats an odd name by itself

  • long live the rocket

  • my parents are eating dinner with him at this moment on campus!

  • how could you parents be eating dinner with him at this moment if he was in the game!! stupid!!

  • It was at the moment I posted it.

  • really? i think you're the stupid one.

  • The crowd started going nuts when they saw Rocket was gonna get to return it...THEY KNEW

  • Look out! It's over!

  • Amun1999!

    Who almost caught him?????

The Rocket was coasting from about the 30-25, I hope you're NOT talking about the guy with the huge angle!

    NO WAY!

  • relax...no ones gonna hurt ur baby rocket

  • I'm relaxed.....................calm.

  • rocket ismail almost got caught ...and if so he isn't fast

  • No one got close to catching him. And he is fast, VERY fast. You'll never come close to his speed.

  • The sad part is today the celebration in the end zone would be an unsportsmanlike penalty. Taking all the joy out of the game.

  • Almost... but dude sure got dusted because he really wasnt that close..lol!! GO IRISH!

  • how can you say "almost" and then say dude got dusted?

  • rocket almost gets caught

  • No, he doesn't...

  • Is that Jim Nantz on the call?

  • Sure is. Nantz started out on CBS College Football games in the 1980s. He was the announcer for the famous Miami-Notre Dame game in 1989 when the #1 and #2 teams played.

  • Catholics vs. Convicts Vol. Whatever. The year of the Irish has returned. LET's GO!!!

  • THAT GUY ALMOST CAUGHT THE ROCKET

  • Actually, he had the angle and still couldn't close. He got smoked! :)

  • Damn I loved the ROCKET!

  • One of the most prolific returners of all time.

  • Anyone notice how Rocket actually slips in the beginning, and then he just blows by everyone? It was like he had a gear no one else had.

  • A brilliant return against the best kick coverage unit speed wise maybe ever in college football. Miami could fly and had great athletes.

  • rocket was my basketball coach last year

no lie me and his son played on the same team

  • SPEED...

    kills.

  • you hear the rocket zo0O0om...

  • Thanks for posting this and reminding us that Notre Dame Football used to be relevant.

  • The ROCKET! a Notre Dame Legend

    love him!

  • You never heard of Rocket Ismail? are you 2 or something?

  • I'd never heard of this guy (I'm a football fan, but somewhat marginally, since the days of the 80's Redskins), but was watching TBN and there he was just now, giving his testimony. I am a big Jesus fanatic! :-) (respectful acknowledgment to the late, greats Reggie White and Tom Landry, and to Joe Gibbs and Mike Singletary, who have powerful testimonies, too)

  • Dorsett didnt carry the ball as much as Payton, Dickerson, Emmitt...if he had, he would have put the all time ydg up around 15-17k very easily.

Add up Walter Payton's carries in his first 7 seasons and then add up Dorsetts first 7 seasons carryiong the ball. Payton has over an extremely higher carry ratio than Tony.

Had Dorsett been a 30 carry/game back, he would have had a lot more long TD runs, big time yds.

He's the most instinctual, natural, fluid runners ive ever seen.

  • Dorsett had a special kind of speed though. Set him apart from anyone else. He could be at full speed on his 2nd step. His acceleration was unmatched. And his breakaway speed was the rarest of rare. And I think he had the best vision of any RB ever. He weighed 185, and his vision and recognition as he headed into the line, allowed him that great success at 185 lbs. Hardly ever got hit hard or square. Always knew where defenders were at. Outrran angles. Most underrated back in NFL History.(cont)

  • Bo Jackson would smoke em... deion will keep up tho.. but bo is explosive

  • And Tony Dorsett would smoke them all..

  • Look up : Tony Dorsett Sugar Bowl Scamper (youtube)

  • Didn't Darrell Green catch Dorsett from behind in an NFL game to stop a TD?

Darrell Green was probably the fastest man in the NFL in his prime, and possibly the only person that could run his age in the 40 yard dash. (He supposedly ran a 4.1 40 when he was 41.)

    Bo was pretty fast too.

  • Ever heard the phrase " make you famous"?

Well youre right, Darrell Green was the only man to run down Tony Dorsett. and it made Green famous. Other than Greens longevity, he is best known for that play.

  • DG was a terrific cornerback, one of the better ones. I think he made the Pro Bowl several times...

  • no...he ran a 4.2 ...it is on youtube....

  • Comment removed

  • ok I saw it...a 4.2 at 40. Maybe not quite his age, but still...I'll be lucky to be alive at 40....let alone run that fast.

  • No way....he's nearly my age and I can't run down the block. How the hell does he do it?????? Honestly what is his secret????

  • I wanna see rocket ismail, bo jackson, deion sanders and joey galloway race. wonder who would win dat

  • holy fucksuck he's fast

  • He played for the Raiders and the Cowboys, I believe. Just not much of an NFL career.

  • He played in the NFL..

  • Rocket was unbelievable!

  • that guy from miami was halking the rocket ismail down and almost caught him if he had enough room to catch him

  • No he never would have gotten him. Rocket saw the end zone and slowed up because he knew nobody was gonna catch him. Only natural. The other guy was going his fastest and still would not have caught Rocket.

  • No he did not. Rocket was slowing down at the end AND that guy was too, because he knew he was not going to catch Ismail. He never would have caught him.

  • Then why does he give up at the 20 if he was gonna catch the Rocket??? He was not ever going to catch him.

  • what increbible speed. 0 to 60 in about 2 steps.

  • tiklim tiklim dolu a.q tribün

  • Rocket baby!

  • LMAO NOTRE DAME SUX AND CHARLIE WIES is a fat ass

  • hold on let me finish hanging up this banner, it's my 11 time National Championship banner, okay now what were you saying?

  • go eat your mom's asshole, dickhead

  • Dude, that's great that ND won all sorts of titles back before 1950, when they could skip bowl games and writers would still vote them #1. Seriously, I'm happy for you. It must be really awesome to brag about 11 national titles, when you weren't alive for most of them. But hey, Yale has won 18 national titles, since 1869, so they must be a powerhouse!

  • I am happy with 11 national championships and 11 Heisman trophy winners, thank you

  • 7 Heisman winners, actually. Although, Rocket got jobbed out of his. I think that the only two Maxwell Award winners who did not win the Heisman were Rocket and Brady Quinn, which tells you how much of a popularity contest and stats contest it has become. Instead of giving it to the best player in the land, the Heisman has gone to the best player on the best team in the land or the man who had just GAUDY stats...and not necessarily the best player in CFB. Which is just sad.

  • Troyflowers, you have no real sense or knowledge of college football history. Quit making yourself look unintelligent.

  • What about the year that Alabama was voted number 1 in the AP poll and then LOST to ND??? Get over it man, the past is the past. And CFB is cyclical anyway. USC is one of the best right now, but it was not that long ago when they were losing to ND every year (0-11-1) from 1984 to 1996--meaning they lost to FAUST twice in a ROW. The Irish will be back soon.

  • USC is trash. They split a title with LSU which should have never happen then Auburn got screwed out of the title because USC was the popular team. USC have titles that they didn't earn.

  • what!?...ur an ididot...the year auburn got screwed...usc destroyed oklahoma, they didnt just beat them, they destroyed them, i highly doubt that auburn would have done much better. USC along with miami (back in the day) have the most players in the NFL, and maybe florida in the mix too, how can u say that they didnt earn them? its not like they got to the national championship with 3 losses, then it would be considered as unearned

  • An idiot huh? You seem like you like USC a whole lot. So you mean to tell me that USC and Auburn couldn't split the title but they make LSU split the title with a way less talented USC team. Bottom line USC has two title because they were popular. I sure auburn would have beaten USC and Oklahoma. By the way stop being a fair weather fan.

  • no i dont like USC, i HATE USC, but i respect them because they are always a threat to go undefeated, im acutally a miami hurricanes fan, also, you cant say that USC didnt deserve the title the year that auburn went undefeated by saying that "im sure auburn would have defeated USC" thats an opinion, and opinions dont matter....Lastly, hwhy would you consider me a fair weather fan even if i did like USC, what if lived right next to their campus? would you consider me fair weather?

  • He was my hero growing up. Unbelievable speed and playmaking ability

  • Wilkes-Barre

  • is he indian or black because Raghib Ismail sounds pretty indian

  • Black....Do u know of any Indian football players

  • thats pretty racist

  • Sorry I was just making a point

  • i hear golden tate watches the rockets videos before games. good luck golden. hope you run one back soon!

  • Unlike a lot of kick returners he basically ran straight.... a north / south runner..... the guys who try to reverse direction rarely make it especially when they are playing against well disciplined teams.

  • I know him very well too, as I introduced him to his wife and am friends with his great grandma. I'm 172 years old.

  • omg i stayed in a hotel with this guy my mom is bestfriends with his wifes friend whoa thats tight

  • Where is he now?

  • Wonder why he converted from Islam.

  • His Muslim father died when Rocket was ten. He would eventually be raised by his Christian grandmother, who moved Rocket and his two brothers from New Jersey to Pennsylvania and converted her grandsons.

  • I was at that game and in the endzone where he returned that kick. What a great game, too. Too bad it was the last time they've played. Hopefully the Canes and Irish both rise up again so we are treated to some more classic games like the ones from 87-90

  • ronaldino

  • I LOVED THE ROCKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i didn't say that anybody caught the rocket ismail...i said watch THE GUY CATCHING UP WITH HIM IN RUNNING ON THE KICK OFF RETURN...IF HE HAD A LITTLE MORE YARDS HE WOULD HAVE CAUGHT ISMAIL

  • You mean like another 95 yards?

  • i liked the rocket in the CFL good times!!

  • Did you like it when he stomped a Stamp in the head in 92? Mmmmm... I did.

  • look at how that dude is catching up with the rocket ismail in running

  • Rocket was probably slowing down a little as he neared the goalline and knew he had a TD. That guy would never have caught Ismail.

  • He still has one of the best bursts I've ever seen.

  • Son, you are a fuckin idiot. Ciaho.

  • ur a fag

  • Who's Larry Johnson?

  • What are you talkin about?

Larry Johnson ain't fast! I'm faster than Larry Johnson!
