The fight is here on YouTube. Give it a butcher's!
For me, Kotelnik wins the first 6 rounds. Maidana is an enormous puncher but he hit Kotelnik's gloves a lot early on. Kotelnik threw less but boxed better. His defence was superb. Maidana started to connect later but I still feel Kotelnik had the "class" in that fight. Maidana absolutely did not get robbed.
I only brought those up because the talk is naturally about Mitchell fighting Khan, and to do that he'll have to move up in weight.
Kevin Mitchell is a good fighter take nothing away from him, but I don't think he can compete at world level, to many good fighters at lightweight. Even Khan it remains to be seen how he does against world class opponents. Khan is the only one that could probably compete at world level, but with his chin I don't know, will have to see. Warren has to find Mitchell better opponents in order for him to be able to compete at world level.
im a fan of both Kevin and Amir, and would love to see them fight later in their careers...hopefully both would each have real word titles by then!
however, i see Amir being too fast for Kevin, height, reach and speed advantage? although Kevin seems to have reasonable power i don't see him getting close enough to Amir...
if Kevin carries on knockin out ppl of a higher standard then who knows, wish him the best...the future of British boxing is looking promising with Khan, Mitchell and !!!
Kotelnik is better than both of these guys and he rarely got close to Khan. Kotelnik also outclassed Maidana, whom everyone seems to think is too dangerous for Khan. Maidana is another banger like Prescott was.
The Khan haters can't seem to face the fact that Khan has evolved. He was punch perfect against Barrera, nearly punch perfect (a bit rabbit-punch-ish) against Kotelnik and he outclassed Salita.
I think John22Trina gets it right. Mitchell's footwork isn't there yet.
Kotelnik better than Mitchell?, how?!?! you idiot, Mitchell is a lightweight not a lww, but he is ten times ther fighter Kotelnik is in terms of ability, speed and talent
Kotelnik is desperately underrated. And I know in which weight class Mitchell fights. Mitchell has youth on his side but the fights Warren has gotten for Mitchell have slowed his development.
Mitchell might have to fight Murray. We'll see how the Katsidis-Juan Diaz fight goes and that should map out Mitchell's path. David Diaz v Soto is in March too. Mitchell has to get past Murray (and I'd pick Murray there) to earn a fight with the likes of one of the Diazes.
@nobodyknowsmenow kotelnik has good defence and thats it in my opinion he's hugely overrated and anyone with abit of speed can easily outpoint him he just covers up
my friends khan will never fight this guy cos hes not of khan's standards and this mendoza doesnt even know wt hes doing. hes good fighter but not as much as some of the people think.
mitchell wont fall short at world level,31 and 0 and has the best record in british boxing at present,if he meets kahn hell be to storng and to powerfull and kahn wont know what hit him, mitchell has nevert been down as an amateur or a pro, unlike kahn!
I don't know, Khan might be too fast for Mitchell, Mitchell isn't really known for his speed, i'm not saying that he hasn't got a decent chance but look what happened to Salitta, he was ready but he wasn't fast enough....
mitchell is not gonna fall short at world level,30 and 0 and currently holds the best record in british boxing,if he meets kahn, khan wont know how to deal with him,too strong too powerful, and never been down as an amateur or pro....unlike kahn!
