Halo Is good because it came out first and that makes it good? In my OPINION the game I liked the best is battlefield franchise. It requires skill, people on the game don't fuckin trashtalk there own godamn team. I never really had a problem with battlefield.

CS created team based FPS... why does it matter what engine it used. Halo is probably the best build FPS for a console if thats what you are getting at, but it really didnt change much if anything as far as FPS goes, and little boys don't play CS lol, they play halo or cod, basically anything on a console. Doom made way for the FPS genre, but it wasn't even real 3D, the first 3d fps i played was Quake 1, and if you played games during that time you would know that HL did trully change things.

Halo wasn't revolutionary in the slightest - it was just the first FPS to be dumbed down with consoles in mind. Doom 3 was just a over-glorified tech demo that sucked as a game. However, the stuff about Call of Duty and Battlefield is very true through.

Errr no there weren't hundreds, but there certainly were FPS games as far back as 1974. Some notable FPS games from before Wolf 3D is Catacombs (1991), Maze War (1974), and Battlezone (1980). Having said that Wolf 3D is the one that set the true basis for an FPS - much like Dune 2 did for the RTS genre, it wasn't the first but it's been the basis for the RTS genre ever since.
Metroid Prime 2 was in 2004. Vid says it was in 2002...and since when is Metroid Prime and its sequels ever a FPS? They're not shooters! They're adventure titles that involve shooting!

3. We have several branches
a) good stuff, crysis, deus ex, doom 3, quake, ArmA, bioshock, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Flashpoint etc.
b) half/fps stuff, this includes several games that have both fps and 3rd person view like deus ex

Yeah Unreal was the biggest jump from the 2d games to 3d games... its kind of out of the picture these days... definitely wish it meant more to people. Good video man!

Best fucking video game history video, good job applemctom! You included the most powerful beginnings of our games today! I'm mainly concerned you showed Duke Nukem' and Unreal the original. I remember when I was like six, I went over to a friends house in upstate... and every year i'd swim at his pool... well we played Duke Nukem, first shooter game i've ever played. And then I saw my brother and his friend playing Unreal I believe on the computer. Rare memories of those times... time gos on

@xXBlu3Haz3Xx oh i remember the flyby demo on unreal, i finished the game on a pentium mmx 233mhz without a 3d accelerator, then i got a p2 400mhz with a voodoo2 and that flyby with those reflective floor tiles and texture smoothing AND 60fps was jawdropping. i think it was the game that impressed me the most graphically in my entire life.

I was waiting to see Blood (1997) and Time splitters (2000) here, but guess theyre not that known. I remember buying Metroid Prime along with gamecube in 2002, has the time seriously flied by so fast? :(

Errr no there weren't hundreds, but there certainly were FPS games as far back as 1974. Some notable FPS games from before Wolf 3D is Catacombs (1991), Maze War (1974), and Battlezone (1980). Having said that Wolf 3D is the one that set the true basis for an FPS - much like Dune 2 did for the RTS genre, it wasn't the first but it's been the basis for the RTS genre ever since.
