@NDPofNovaScotia You are the one that’s confused. As of 2002, an individual human is defined technically as a 26-element reactive molecule (Ecological Stoichiometry, 2002). Hence, two unattached “single” human molecules, Mx (male) and Fy (female), falling in love, to form a couple, is combination reaction:

Mx + Fy --> Mx=Fy

pure and simple, wherein the symbol “=” signifies that a chemical bond has formed. See links in pulldown, for more information.
