Please, Please, PLEASE, don't call it "Darwinism". It's not a political view nor is it a religion, it's a scientific theory. Call it Evolution. You damn Newtonist!
Brilliant! That was an amazing video. I think there is a small problem that people who are not familiar with evolution theory won't understand it by this vieo anyway.
I might as well copy and paste the response I made to your previous video, as it applies here as well. Again, a very good and concise story which describes evolution in its basic and most fundamental sense.
I would like to recommend something though. People who are new to science and evolution usually don't yet have the capacity to visualise all of this information. You might want to consider using schematics or diagrams, just to make that visualisation process a bit easier for the lay man.
@FlyingEvolutionist59 You'd also need to have the cheeck-turn-smuggish-smile combo move at the end of a key sentence to really show a Dawkins demeanour.
I think it will be important for you to address misconceptions about evolution as well. No matter what you said in this video people will instantly shut you out and go "If we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys smart guy?" Or they confuse it with abiogenesis or the big bang. I don't think they mean to, it's just what people tell them evolution is, and it sticks in their head. Sure did mine for years till I stumbled upon artificial selection then it just CLICKED.
Yes, I experienced a similar feeling, which is when I truly started to become passionate about evolutionary biology. I hope that in the future I can draw more attention to what evolution is, and what it isn't, which will allow others to begin to experience the same feeling of comprehension. However, I feel as though that level of understanding isn't something that can be 'taught', but rather must be the product of reflection and consideration.
Its so nice to see another person is just as passionate about evolution as I am. I still cant believe simply understanding evolution could totally change my life, changed the way I think completely. How I approach claims, the need for evidence etc. I would love it if you could make a video sometime regarding just what about evolution you find so amazing. Hopefully it could inspire others. I hope to do the same soon, I just feel I can never do it justice with words.
I feel the same way. To me, evolution is not only a way of understanding life, but making connections between all of its diverse enterprises. Hopefully I'll have time over the weekend to make such a video, and I certainly look forward to hearing your thoughts on the matter.
Is this understanding evolution video intended for those who already understand it? My former creationist mind would totally have shut you out. This is great for a very sciency review, but I think you will have to dumb it down and give many examples of each topic you covered for those who deny or have an incorrect view of what Evolution is and how it works. I look forward to your future videos and am so glad you are doing this. thank you.
Even things like species, many people honestly don't know what a species is. People understand a dog cant reproduce with a horse and so they know they are two different species. Why cant they reproduce etc.
Although most creationists do shut off when the word 'evolution' is even mentioned, I've encountered some who are genuinely interested in what it has to say. More often than not, those I've convinced have changed their minds once they begin to understand the theory.
This was intended to be a a semi-casual overview of a very expansive and robust topic that is evolutionary theory, made for those with some background. I hope to focus in and expand upon various points I raised in future videos.
This is the comment I use for creationist videos: watch as I make my comment disappear due to the inability to take criticism

Very good introduction to evolution. Your use of language made it so much easier to understand than trudging through Darwin's 19th century English.

If I increase the blink count, all I have left is to find an incompetent cameraman and I'll be just like Richard Dawkins!!!

That's true, I might need to show a very slight level of intellectual arrogance, especially in the presence of creationists.

I was actually considering doing a segment on the biological species concept in the near future -- perhaps that should move up in my priorities.
